    A big elk shed...

Nothing from around here, with that color, mass and sheer awesomeness I'd bet it's a 3a3c bull, or a shed off the White Mtn Apache Rez.

    brown whitey sheds

Took my friend Gail out with me on Saturday and he picked up a decent little fresh 2pt coues shed. Today he went hiking and picked up a fresh spike set of coues sheds laying right next to each other! Seems as if the coues are sheddin in Northern AZ. Anyone else?

    brown whitey sheds

Ya sorry about not posting any pics, there's WAY to much scenery in the background so unless I find time to crop the pics they won't be seen. Sorry...... They were found in the high country south of the Grand Canyon is about all I'll say at this time

    Been out a bit....

Good thing I didn't have my GPS on when we were gabbing on the radios.... I actually found all 4 of those up there in the clouds, if you remember... Had a great time! Thanks Buddy! CnS I'd recognize that flat and rock anywhere!!! You beat me there you PUNKS!!! At least it was you guys and not someone i didn't know......... I guess when I get invited out with you guys I ought to go instead of working. CRAP!!!

    Shed Dogs.

From what I've read on shed dogs if you're gonna plant the antlers be sure and use rubber gloves to be sure they're seeking out the smell of the shed and not the smell of your favorite scratchin finger....
  6. Dad called me and said he had a lion treed. I hauled arse out there in my truck with my boy Isaac. After about an hour of suck, bumpy, 6A driving we finally parked, I threw him up on my shoulders and ran about a 1/3 of a mile down into the deep draw just before dark so Isaac could see his first lion. It was pretty freakin awesome for a kid less than 3 yrs old to see something like that. And before any of you ask, no, the lion was not killed.

    Another great Mexico buck

Ya man, way nice!!!!! Thanks for sharing.
  8. Thanks for all the kind comments everyone. The reason the lion wasn't killed is cause it was, in my guesstimation, about a 55-65 lb female. That's like shooting a spike bull elk, with a rifle, on a trophy elk hunt during the rut in unit 10. Crotalus, your first sentance is hilarious. I didn't think anything of the situation being unsafe but there was a couple of people who saw the pics and couldn't see it for the special time it was for me and Dad and saw nothing but DANGER DANGER for my boy. Never even occured to us but maybe that's cause we're men...

    Tundra ?

I had an '01 Tundra and it was the best truck I've ever had, shoulda kept it too. Dang nice truck but I will admit those new ones look a tad gay. Not that there's anything wrong with that..... Oh wait, yes there is! Have you guys noticed the price of diesel lately?!?!?! No chance I'd buy a diesel. Here in Camp Verde it's $3.85!!! What a load of you know what!!!

    Scored big today!!

Here is the original ATL picture as how I saw it the instant I came around a small juniper tree.......

    Scored big today!!

Yes Christian you are correct. Found my big typical 4pt buck back in '99 and it grosses 132 0/8", this one just 3/4 of an inch higher. Man I hope it's not my last but if it is that's ok too I guess as I've been very blessed to find what I have.

    Scored big today!!

Oh now that's just way funny!!! Actually had I been wearing the GRONG ORANGE I would've found his last set of sheds too dammit! I didn't even have my video camera with me that day. That hurts just as bad............

    Scored big today!!

My thoughts EXACTLY Jim!!! Funny you brought that up cause I thought about that too. HAHAHAHA!!! No chews whatsoever on the whole rack and I doubt they shrink very much. No sheds off of him that I know of unless a tree-hugger found one but if a hunter found one I bet we'd hear about it. Super thick PJs so I'd imagine he lived his entire life w/o having a bullet launched his way. I'm still on Cloud-9........
  14. I saw a picture today on a guy's phone and it was big. HORRIBLE picture quality but it had GIANT point length. They said it's a big 3pt that scores 130-140". I can't imagine a 3pt going that high but not saying it won't ever happen. Anyone hear of this buck?

    SCI scoring

Yup, I'd be just as bummed about that crack-pot measuring!

salt and feed no more in 2009

A local GW called me about a week ago and we talked for a while. I mentioned this very thread and he said he'd hadn't heard of any talk about banning baits but he's just a warden, usually the last to know, but he did see this topic. He did say that unit 7 is going to an archery draw cause of the bulls*#t 20% rule mentioned earlier in this topic. He also mentioned that unit 8 & 9 I believe were gonna be opened for Jan archery deer. I said well why not open them all up, like 6A? He said that it's cause usually there are road closures that most of the unit wouldn't be able to hunt it anyway. I said I could drive a quad or truck (if I dared) clear around, in a roundabout way, on a road thats not closed into the same country that the road is closed from on the other end, usually in the higher elevations. Now his reasoning didn't make much sense to me, but hey that's the G&F's reasoning.
  20. AZCoues_addict you said it right!! It's amazing how some people get carried away about the worth of a trophy rack such as this or any other species of deer/elk. If one thinks that it's worth is well over $10k then be willing to put up that amount of money for it. If not, then you really have no idea of it's worth and are just throwing out unrealistic amounts. What this does is mess with the owner's mind that owns the rack for sale. And when the owner ends up selling the rack for any less than the over-inflated price (that someone just threw out there) for some reason they end up thinking that they got ripped off. I have seen this time and time again over the years and it's frustrating. A lot of the time I say I'm not interested if they say, "Someone told me I should be able to get X amount for it". It's an odd situation for sure. It's like selling old guns, old cars etc etc. Just less than one week ago a picture was sent to my phone of a MONSTEROUS 260" muley rack saying how many points it had etc. and asking how much I thought it was worth. Now this can only be somewhat answered if the owner has a price in mind and then what the buyer thinks of its worth. From there a point can be reached where both the seller and buyer are happy with the outcome. I called the guy who sent me the pic and asked him the story about the rack to find out more specifics. He told me the guy that owns it bought it at a swap-meet two weeks ago in Prescott Valley for $175 if you can believe that crap?!?!?!?! Anyway he told me that HE told the guy that he should be able to get about $10k for the rack. I said well how did you come up with that number and was he willing to pay that for the rack? He said no way but though that would be a good price for it. I eventually called the owner and asked him about the antlers. Come to find out they were sawed off at the pedicle!!!!!!!!! Talk about a suck deal!!! Anyway, when I get to see it I'll take some pictures of it and share them here if any of you are interested...... Hope I don't sound like an old grumpy SOB, it's just some food for thought. Take it for what it's worth.... Or ask someone who doesn't really know. They might tell you it's worth thousands................

salt and feed no more in 2009

KB, what you're saying does make sense, I'll be the first to admit that. However, in my own personal book of ethics, I don't feel as if my hunting over salt or water source makes me as much of a criminal as someone who uses tacticals on their scopes to be able to shoot 800 yards with ease. If those were outlawed would it be the same thing to you? Probably and I understand that. But when it boils down to the G&F not wanting us to actually kill deer while we're hunting instead of just being a hunter in the field that's experiencing the "opportunity" to hunt and be there for the experience of the hunt that is where I disagree. When I said, "Pass all the laws they want, not gonna change me...", I meant when and if a law is passed just cause they want to see my chances lessen because they really don't want any deer killed it's really not based on ANY scientific study or facts at all. They don't want archers harvesting at a 20% success in any given unit. In that case I say open up all the units and that'll spread us out across the board and would probably still keep withing their harvest objective... whatever that may be. I'm in no way in favor of a draw for archery deer but if it boiled down to that that'd truly and honestly make me/us decide what it is we want to hunt with. Right now we can hunt with both. If we happen to draw a fall tag I feel as if we're sort of spoiled and fortunate with being able to do that. At least I know I am. If I had to decide between the two I would have to stick with the bow. After spot and stalking the buck I did a month ago I realized that it is possible to kill a deer that way and what a cool feeling it was to accomplish something like that. Not that saying spotting a big buck and shooting him with a rifle makes you less of a hunter it's just that each of them involve their own level of "fun". I guess in a way if it all boiled down to a draw type thing I'd hope that they'd leave the baiting option open, sights on bows unlimited, any power of binoculars optional, treestands or blinds optional, fixed blade or expandible or flint broadheads allowed barefooted stalks or boots with Bear's feet over them etc etc etc also an option left up to us as hunters. I could go on in my own scrambled way of expressing myself but I hope that clears the air a little. If not, I'm sorry, I'm not the outlaw I may have made myself sound like I possibly was.
  24. You know, just when you think a buck has it all he goes and forgets to grow eyeguards!!!! Regardless, freakin awesome man!!!!

I'd LOVE to see those butt-jacks try and enforce that one! Like it's been said a page or two back, those J-holes don't even leave their truck. What I'd like to see is the results they print of the "actual reported" harvest of the archers in this state. Seems to me that it's been in the 4-6% range over the past decade but I haven't paid much attn to that in a while. And what does it really matter? I think that archery hunters in the past 10 years have gotten better and the technology of the whole sport has just shot thru the roof and who knows, maybe in the next 5yrs we'll have bows that shoot 450'/second. I bet it's coming. Seems just 8-10yrs ago it was crazy to hear of one that was 240fps, now we get em that shoot 350fps. The morons in the game dept gonna put limits on that? Probably. I will tell you all one thing, it's not gonna change how I hunt, cause I know it's ethical and I'm not doing anything wrong by sitting my salt lick or an old one a rancher put out there decades ago. Maybe I'll just have to start placing the trail camera a little higher so you can only see from the deer's knees on up so there's no proof of what they're doing at that spot at that time. Pass all the laws they want, not gonna change me and I'd guess it won't change a whole lotta you guys either. My two cents anyway.
