CouesElkus Kachinas
GRONG replied to Red Rabbit's topic in Photography of Coues Deer and Other Wildlife
I saw them out there this afternoon, just before that MONSTEROUS storm that hammered the country just south of you Doug. Wish I woulda had my binos to check them out but I didn't. There was one really light colored bull out there. I think there were 4 of them. Ron, I think that bull is missing both of his 2nds. Neat bulls for sure and FAT! -
Nice buck in Northern AZ
GRONG replied to GRONG's topic in Photography of Coues Deer and Other Wildlife
Geoff has taken a new approach and is putting piles of crystals on the ground. The vortex of energy that the crystals create draw the deer in a hypnotized state. Wonder if that's in the G&F regs of can and can't do's. -
I was up on 260 this evening and it's getting very green up there for sure!! Looks really good. Hey BASS I sent your video out yesterday.

elkhunter your avatar picture cracks my butt up!!!!!!!!!!

I just talked with a member of the ABA and he said they dumped about $10k into new targets and they're getting rid of a lot of the smaller targets on Sunday of the shoot if anyone wants to buy any. They've taken a lot of criticism over the past couple of years and they finally decided to listen to the masses I think. Hopefully it'll be a good turnout this year. I hope most people realize that if it wasn't for the ABA we might not be getting all those precious Sept elk tags this year and we might be hunting elk in November with our bows if it wasn't for all the pressure they put on the G&F. I have a feeling I'm gonna get pounded for my comments............

I drew an Oct 21 whitetail tag. Should be interesting as I've never hunted up north here that time of year. I'll bring the snakebite kit. My dad drew a unit 8 rifle bull tag so we're pumped about that.

Might be closer to 6:30 for coueskiller and myself. Gotta unload a bunch of porta potties first then we'll eat and then hit the courses. See you all there!

Nice bulls! If you go to photobucket.com and upload your pics there you can have the larger pictures to post instead of trying to make them small enough for Amanda's site to hold. It's SUPER easy to do and your pics should probably look better. That's what I use anyway.

Coueskiller and I will be eating at Pine Country Cafe early Friday morning before the shoot starts in case anyone there wants to join us.

Steve, thanks for bringing those over to show me the other day. Those antlers were gorgeous! Sorry I didn't have enough time to slap a tape on them but it was sure nice to fondle them for the first time. ...Your antlers that is! I hope you pull a tag and get a chance to hunt him this year.

Well whats your best one CRB? We'd all love to see that one!

Finally got out yesterday to look for coues sheds and got lucky. This is the same buck I got a lot of pics of over this past fall/winter.
-
I guess I shoulda added some more details. I went out specifically looking for this buck's sheds, his new ones anyway but never could come up with them. I jumped 2 bucks near there, one was a small buck and the other one was grown out well past his G2s already. Made me realize I need to get my trail cams back up. After finding the first antler I was way excited to see it was from that buck. For a minute I thought it may be this year's drop but the G3 on the antler was too long, he barely had one on that side last year. It took me about 20 minutes of some hardcore zigzagging but finally came up with the match about 100 yards away. Flippin squirrels had eaten off the beam and nearly got away with the G2 if I hadn't of found it when I did. Total bummer!! At least I had the match though. Found a decent 2pt while looking for the match but it's an old chalker. Oh ya, the sheds were about 1/2 mile from the salt lick. Maybe I'll get lucky and find his newest set one of these days. If I can find the time come this fall I'd sure like a chance to stick an arrow between his ribs as I only got to sit in the stand about 4 days this past winter.

Happy birthday from an old school sk8r to another!

Congradulations to Bill Quimby
GRONG replied to parothead's topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer
Right on Bill that's awesome!!!!! -
Hey that's cool. Neat area for sure. If I enjoyed riding a quad just to ride a quad I'd hit every trail in that area but I don't. I ride them just to check out new areas and keep from beating my truck to pieces. That was the first time I'd ever spent any time over there. Pretty awesome to say the least.

GRONG replied to bowhunter4life's topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer
ROTFLMAO!!!!!! That is hilarious! -
Ya man it's on the homepage of this very site. Here's the link to some of Jim's sheds. http://coueswhitetail.com/shed_photos/coues_sheds_4.htm

That's awesome dude!! You're killin me!
-
That is way too funny man!! I thought Dad and I were one of the only redneck sumbeeshes that did that crap. Here's a couple of pics of us this past winter lion hunting with the same types of "rigs". LOL!!!! I will say that that was the scariest quad ride I've ever been on. I'll also say that Dad was way more scared than I was... wink!

Saving 3lbs sounds good for sure, so does going to better optics! Good move Doug! See you at the shoots!
-
Doug, the only way I'd post the pics is if he OK'd it. Since he's just sent them to me I'm not sure he wants them all over the place. They're his sheds so it's his call. He sent his monsterous 83"er to Amanda and she posted the pics a couple years ago. Amanda I'd love to put a tape on some more of those antlers!! I've already measured a TON of them they just need your OK on them since they were all well above the top 10 for the NASHC record book.
-
Amanda I'll talk to a gal here in Camp Verde and see how much she'd do the hats for. For my business she talked a lot less than that but then again my logo isn't as detailed as yours is probably. I'll ask her though.
-
Anyone half serious about finding coues deer or their sheds aren't half as serious as Jim is. That guy CONSTANTLY sends me pictures of GINORMOUS coues sheds that would blow your minds! Amanda, you and I need to spend a day, or two, measuring his sheds for the NASHC record book! Oh ya, those ones he sells on ebay are the "dinks", seriously!

WHAT!?!?! I thought you LOVED those things, what gives?
