Okay, so the AC was more than I thought it would be. OUCH!!! I ended up taking a flyer on the Minox after everyone said they were really great bang for the buck. I figure you can't go wrong with the deal Doug is giving. Thanks for the input. Maybe one of these days those SLC's will find their way into my pack ... would have been this year but for the AC disaster.
  2. LMAO! That is a good one. Yeah, there is that for sure.

    Tough Hunt

What can I say, except that you are a credit to hunters everywhere working that hard to find your animal. Makes me sick to hear guys give up after a few hours of looking. You did it right. You honored your animal, and yourself, with your efforts. And to all those guys out there who helped him, you are also a credit to the sport. With no obligation, other than your own sense of what is right, you pitched in and helped a fellow hunter find his prize. You guys are all GREAT!!! And congrats on your Bull ... you deserve it!!!

380 vs 400 what would yawl do

Wow ... I guess I'd have to agree with the folks that say shoot what you like. That said, I don't think 400's drop off trees, and for that matter, 380's don't either. 380 is a heck of a bull. I'd be ecstatic with that ... but that's me.

    Binoculars

Well CRUD!!!!! I went and looked through them side by side ... the Swaro's are IT!!! Kaibab's were nice but didn't fit my face near as well. PROBLEM ... today the wife called and said the AC was acting funny ... had my sub go check it and it is OUT. Over a grand in repairs is the estimate. UGH!!! Murphy has struck at the most inopportune time. Have to think about this a bit. The Swaros were THE BOMB. Still not sure how the Minox would compare in side by side. Have to fix the AC ... but those Swaros are GREAT!!!!

    Binoculars

Thanks for the input everyone. Checked out Outdoorsman today ... they have the Vortex and the Swaros, but not the Minox ... I guess they are discontinued from what the guy said. Cameraland NY said they are running out ... I guess they are blowing them out for $549. I just have trouble buying something I have not looked through. I need to go do a side by side at dusk at one of the places ... if there isn't much difference I sure like the Vortex price, given that I'm just a sport hunter and not a professional. Kinda like tools ... I'd buy Snap-On if I were a car mechanic, but since I'm not, the Kobalt Line at Lowes will due (yeah I know Snap-On makes them, but they aren't the same).

    13a

Definitely depends on the weather. Back in '07 I hunted this unit and the weather was very warm ... not as much action as I had hoped for, at least in the part of the unit I was in. They also were moving much more at night ... very little in the day unless you kicked them up (by day I mean early light and dusk). We'd wipe track clean at the end of the day and check it before the sun cracked ... deer had been there in the dark hours.

    Elk Photos

About 15 years or so ago, I was rifle hunting the Kaibab. Found a nice spot and decided to sit and watch for a while. Well, when you wake up at 4AM to go hunting, you get a bit tired ... so you guessed it, I dozed off. Not sure how much later (probably a while) I woke to hear hooves behind me. I turned my head in a kinda funny position and there were several deer behind me, one of which was a smallish buck (all of which I was looking at kinda upside down). Of course, I had no opportunity to do anything but watch as they bounced off after hearing me stir. I felt like a real dope, but looking back on it I have to smile when I think about it. Kinda similar to your experience BASS ... pretty cool to look back on.

That would be great. Thanks for the offer. I'll PM you next time I am planning a shoot to see if you are available. Thanks again.

    6A Early October Rifle Bull

Wow ... those are some nice ones Coues N' Sheep. We know we are in for a lot of work to get something big ... and at the end of the day if it happens it happens. We love the "doing" as much or more than the "getting" ... though looking at a nice one on the wall sure makes the effort all the sweeter. I don't think we'll be hiring a guide this time around ... I know that would definitely exponentially increase our odds, but for us (like for many right now), times are a little leaner, and we are tightening down the belts trying to find that last notch. Would if we could ... that Powerball just isn't cooperating much (AT ALL!!!). I sure do appreciate all of the good information!!! Thanks guys. Good luck to all of you with tags on filling them ... and good luck to all that don't in getting out anyway and seeing some good ones that you might get a crack at next year!!!

    6A Early October Rifle Bull

My dad was drawn for the October (22-25) hunt for Bull in 6A ... so not the September Trophy Hunt, but still a good one. Being that he's turning 71 this year, and it's been 12 years since he was last drawn, this could be his last chance at a big bull. I hunted that unit years ago, and saw some big bulls out by Apache Maid, but have not hunted there much in recent years (due to the fact that I haven't been drawn for elk in 11 years now). Anyone got any hints where I can take Pop and get him a good one??? Any help would be appreciated.
  18. PM Sent ... just saw price firm so disregard that part of it ... helps if I'd READ ...
  19. I've seen a lot of people on this site rave about White Cloud in Glendale ... never used them myself, but lots of good press on this site. Also, I've had work done by Jake at Don's on McDowell (think that is more Scottsdale though). He does good work. I'd check some of the other threads for White Cloud if that is more in your neck of the woods. Kinda surprised there is no one at Avery like there is at Rio Salado (Accuracy Speaks).
  20. That thread was both educational and entertaining ... thanks to Amanda for keeping it up so long and for the new forum. We should all learn something from this ... RESEARCH RESEARCH RESEARCH ... there ... I said it 3 times so maybe I won't forget it ...

    war on arizona

Bingo. Amnesty is his only real chance for re-election. NO-Bama is already working on using executive order to grant Amnesty if it can't get through Congress before we clean out in November. That article by Buchanan really hits the nail on the head ... where is a President like Ike when you need him??? Someone not afraid to do the right thing.

    6A Early October Rifle Bull

Yeah ... some of those roads can be murder on the treads, that is for sure. I was in 3C over the weekend scouting for my son's Jr. Cow Elk tag ... had a ton of rain. One of the roads we got on was so slick and bumpy that I thought I was going to lose my truck down into a stream bed. When we got through it I looked back at the boys and said "I think dad needs to pull over and change his shorts boys ..." , which got a pretty good laugh. If that unit is anything like it used to be, you'll have a blast on that Archery Hunt. My cousin got a really good bull out of there 6-7 years back, and he had his pick of several, all of which he said were huge. Good luck. Maybe we'll run into you out there scouting.

    23N Early rifle bull

Great tag in a great unit. My locksmith got one close to 380" in there a few years back with a broken 5th (or was it 6th ... I don't remember). Two years ago, another guy I know got one in the lower 370's, and last year he went with a guy who got one in the 360's. They are out there. Coues 'n' Sheep ... what did "the Joker" score ... he looks FANTASTIC!!! Catclaw may be right ... that may be the best tag around.

    12AW tag..

12AW is a doosie alright. And the late hunt is great. Can't believe you drew it with no points Allen ... ever think of trying your hand at the lottery??? Good luck to all of you. Post pics of those Bucks when you get 'em.

    6A Early October Rifle Bull

Was kind of a joke Stanley I've always been a bit of a smart"A" ... just expected a few more posts on an area that has been pretty prolific for so many years. And believe me, I do appreciate the info. Boots on the ground is always a good idea. Have been reading up some on areas up closer to 11M and have heard of some huge bulls up there ... that would be up closer to the Mund's Park area. Makes some sense they would be up higher now ... hard to say in a couple of months, but a few trips up should help figure movement. Apache Maid is rough, and lots of pressure ... I just remember years ago when I had a cow tag there seeing some ENORMOUS Bulls ... even the Satellite Bulls were big. Given the nature of the terrain though, probably a last resort. Good luck to you KaibabHunter! Which hunt did you draw?
