Southwest Fur Harvesters Youth Trappers Camp
Phil Carr replied to Trappr1's topic in Predator Hunting and Trapping
This is a great way to get your kids or grand kids involved in trapping. I believe the kids will actually be involved hands on in how to trap and prepare hides. Adults as well as thier kids will be able to meet and discuss trapping and get answers from some of the most knowlegable trappers in the SW. -

16 Gauge O/U w/3" Chamber
Phil Carr replied to AmericanThunder's topic in Small Game, Upland Bird, and Waterfowl Hunting
I might suggest you take a good look at some of the early American SXS shotguns. Granted they are not O/U's but a good selection of 16 gauges are available. Some of the older collectors have been selling off their shotguns and the price has come down where you can purchase a good quality LC Smith, Parker, Ithaca etc. shotguns for less than many of the auto loaders and other modern shotguns. Don't base price off of what you see on Gunbroker, these price in many cases are unrealistic, although the sellers are finally starting to come down to what is fair since they are not selling. The advantage of a 16 gauge is weight over the 12 gauge and of course less recoil. 7/8 oz of shot in a 2 3/4" shell is plenty for almost any shooting I do. I actually shoot almost exclusively 2 1/2" shells in my 28, 20, and 16 gauges. High quality shells with lighter recoil and that pattern wonderfully will help you be more successful. I shoot shells made by RST Shotshell company. Not cheap but shells are the least expensive cost of any hunt. If I can help with any questions you might have concerning the possibility of a 16 gauge SXS feel free to PM me. -

The Dinky Deer Thread - Let's see the SMALLEST one you've got???
Phil Carr replied to mattys281's topic in The Campfire
I shot a very small buck 36 years ago in unit 34A. Shot him at about 30 yards. The other side was a 2 or 3 inch spike as I recall. Some where I have a picture. This antler is very nicely shaped for such a small antler, even appears to have a small eye guard. -
Of course I will have to hire about 10 environmentalist. 6 to watch and 4 to artificially inseminate the wolfs. Don't want them taking a chance breeding naturally. It will take some big guys, wolves don't like you touching them there. OK I have had my fun, now I'll let it go.

I am hoping to win a contract to bring in Mexican Wolves. I think I could bring in and monitor 2 pairs for about 1.4 mil. Per year. In 5 years I hope to get them up to 3 pairs and stabilize the pig population.
