Yeah,thats what I was doing since most of the deer were nocturnal..did get to see a mtn lion tree a bobcat and they had been at each other all morning!!pretty cool..but the does were here and there...lots of pressure though...6 different guys I talked to said they had the springs covered and each had salt!! guess there might be diabetic deer?? anyway yes it was still fun even if I didnt score on a deer...see ya next time..

Try shockey truck trail past Campo..follow it south near the border then head west until you hit the huge canyon- skirt the edge up top and you should connect- or go near Lake Cuayamaca with archery gear up off SunRise Hwy..drive up early in the am this weekend and you will see what I mean!!

I know the feeling,I hit one last january over 100" and we never found him after 7 hour search and return trips after days...it still bothers me..hope he made it.Keep your chin up and get back after these devils!!

D-16 is that the unit up near Cuayamaca? if so that is a great unit!! if I remember d-15 and d-16 are the 2 good units but get up high near the pines and there are some bruisers..also i know it might sound wierd but hunting the mountains near the border are great places too..its been a few (5 years) since I hunted those units so check it out first since fires and whatnot..not to mention homeland security..

Admiral wouldnt be bad,but I am partial to BowTech also....try shooting both or even a Guardian and see what you like better..

I would take a stab that the San Carlos wouldnt be too hard to fathom......monster sheds have been found that are pretty scary and 130's are killed by the natives there almost every season with rifle..

I cant wait to get out this weekend and call,that got me fired up..lots of predators waiting to meet my rifle named "divine intervention"... LOL...

Both rattling and calling are effective.The key is to know when and how subtle or crazy to get.Start out light and see what happens..then get crazy and sit back,grunting is definitely a close quarters deal and sometimes they dont even give a call a second thought..try experimenting but I like a Quaker Boy grunt call...they seem to have that perfect tone.Just my 2 cents..
