    Gunsmith

Harry passed away around 5 or 6 years ago. Randy (his son) runs the shop, and worked under his dad for years. My dad had a .300 Savage converted into a .308 (he calls it his Red Mist gun) and LOVES it. Randy does the same excellent quality of work that Harry did. The old man passed it all on. So don't hesitate to use Lawson's shop for stuff. Randy's work is the spitting image of his dads. Harry would be proud.

Am i the only one so psychotic...?

Excuse me for my chuckles. I've never heard of this tactic before! But it sounds quite clever. Wouldn't a blue lens on a sure fire do the same thing? That's what me and that pops do!

    Bear Arms and Protest

The more we look like radicals, the less change we are able to effect. And thanks to Chris (Gentleman with AR) Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-D.C.) is calling for MORE restrictive measures...ALL brought on by this incident. I doubt the founders would have walked around with AR's if they had them. They would have used rhetoric and logic to effect change, as they did with countless letters to the British before it came to all-out war. War was their LAST resort. Some of you yanks may be lookin for a fight, but I can guarantee that I'm not. Look folks, while I understand that blood MAY have to be shed to keep our nation free, I'm not ready to give up the war of words for my stockpile in order to put my family and future generations in danger. War is NOT pretty. It isn't something I want to happen again on American soil between fellow countrymen. If we can keep this debate civil without inflaming the other side to further restrict our rights, we'll be much better off. This war is more effectively fought via elections (And LOOK! We have a MAJOR one coming up next November) than it is through grandiose [read: stupid] gestures and sending out harbingers of war. IMHO, azhuntergirl

    Easy Meals while camping?

OOh Mountain House meals. Be prepared for gas city and I don't mean the convenience store. But I've not had a tummy ache on them yet! And they provide lots of food, fast, as long as you have a jet boil or something! They are pretty tasty too. The chicken and noodles...YUM. I'll eat this stuff at home if i'm broke and I have some left over. MRE's have nothing on Mountain House. ALSO Backpackers Pantry...REALLY GOOD and higher in calories. (When I say REALLY GOOD...it's relative...it won't be like your mom's meatloaf, but it's a helluva lot better than McDonalds or Ramen!)

    Bear Arms and Protest

I agree he had the right. His rights aren't in question here TAM. What I'm disputing is the time and place mechanism. Just because we possess rights doesn't mean that those rights are ALWAYS prudent to exercise. We live in a country where the media has distorted firearms into weapons, law abiding citizens into criminals, and republican/conservatives into Waco wackos. While it's tragic that this is the case, and infuriating that liberals never have to live by the same standards, the best way to overcome this obvious misrepresentation is to NOT play into their hands. By walking around with a firearm like an AR-15 that was made infamous by the media and feared by non-gun-owning citizens, we are allowing the media to distort our view even further. The gun issue hasn't even been an issue Obama has attacked yet. If you're going to make a pre-emptive strike, I'm not against that, but make sure it's not inflammatory and sensational. As to your last statement. I'm not sure it's appropriate to call people hypocrites because they disagree with the mechanism others use in exercising our rights. I grew up in a family where the 2nd amendment was spoken about, displayed, and exercised with responsibility. I'm no more a hypocrite than you are a murderer.

    A Cross in the desert...

This all happens under the "Separation of Church and State" Many people that continually raise the separation of Church and state issue have bent the founding fathers intent. Coming from England they did not want a state sponsored religion - the main reason many came in the first place. There is a big difference between allowing a religious symbol and our government endorsing and/or promoting a specific religion. Every individual is free to believe as they choose. A religious symbol does not change that.

    Bear Arms and Protest

What's incredibly frustrating about this gentleman is that he brought guns to the forefront of an issue where they were previously IRRELEVANT! Obama has done VERY LITTLE to effect change upon the 2nd Amendment. This was neither the time nor the place for this display of protest. Just because you're able to wield a weapon and carry openly doesn't mean that it is wise. THIS was definitely UNWISE. It allows emotion and illogical debate where there is already TOO much of that. Despicable and illogical. And I happen to know a woman who is friends with this man. He's a Libertarian Veteran who receives my respect, but not my approval in this matter.

Brett Favre is officially a Viking!

I'm a Packer fan too. G'bye Brett. We see how well you served the Jets. Let's see if the Vikings can pull it out. It will definitely be an interesting season.

    Just saying hi

Well welcome! It's nice to have another lady on the site, and from the Southern part of the state. I grew up down in SE Arizona, and ended up in the "valley of the blast furnace" as well. There are some good folks in Phoenix, and some GREAT folks on CWT! Good luck with school and the upcoming hunting season. And props to you for trying not to get brainwashed. I have the same issue at ASU! Many blessings, Azhuntergirl

    30b? any thoughts

Grew up about 5 miles from the dragoons and did a lot of riding/hunting/hiking in the unit. Great dear area, access really isn't too bad. Most of the ranchers in the area are pretty friendly. There is a decent bit of forest service. Some good areas by courtland/gleason. Let me know if you want some ideas/specifics. I'll help out all I can.

Poached Elk and Stolen Apache Trout

Yeah, I got the twitter message re: that yesterday. Astounding how disrespectful some people are.
  16. Reward offered in theft of large number of Apache Trout from Hatchery AND $2,000 reward offered in dual elk poaching Pretty horrible that folks would do this. I say we Hang 'em High...Clint Eastwood fashion.

Poached Elk and Stolen Apache Trout

I believe poachers should be banned from ever hunting in the state. But I'm in agreement that most poachers probably don't posess licenses and don't care about that loss. I take it all back to the days when stealing a man's horse was a capital offense. Hang 'em high.

    unit 6a white tail ????

There are definitely whitetail in that unit, or G&F wouldn't have a hunt in the unit. And G&F puts out a waterhole book you can pick up at Map World or another map store. Problem is, that only shows the tanks created/maintained by G&F. 6a is kinda sparse in the G&F waterhole dept. but there are creeks and natural water spots all over (from what I've heard) Good luck on your hunt!

    6a coues

That's the tag the bf and I have. Rough country, but the potential reward is definitely worth the work. Good luck on your hunt. What dates?

Poached Elk and Stolen Apache Trout

Lol I'm honestly not too sure! Bait net? Who knows. Point is....our resources are being depleted by tools. Makes me so mad I could spit! But I'm a lady, and I don't do those sorts of things

    Opening day of bear tomorrow

Beautiful pics RR!!! Thanks for sharing. Seems like we had the same type of experience! Still nice to be out in the great wide open, even with no bears!

    Opening day of bear tomorrow

The boyfriend and I had a lot of fun out there, but we failed to see any bear. Our thought was since the prickley pear is green still, they're up higher. And I can't blame 'em, it's bloody HOT out there! Payson was 100 degrees yesterday! We did see some good sized Muley bucks, growth looks good, and a few cow elk. And lots of road kill. Good times. Better than being stuck in Phoenix!

    Gunsmith

I'm not sure if your interested in a guy in Tucson. But he's the best gunsmith I know of in Arizona. He's done a lot of work for my dad, my grandpa (who lives in ohio), and myself. Harry Lawson, LLC. in Tucson. His work is superior to almost any I've ever seen. And he's local. My dad had a .300 Savage converted to a .308 Winchester. It's the smoothest shooting .308 I've ever shot. And my grandpa had my .257 Roberts converted to a .257 Roberts Ackley Improved. PERFECT. Hope that helps. Harry is a real stand-up guy.
