azcouesandelk replied to Lance's topic in CouesWhitetail.com Get-togethers!
I think I have good handle on the contest I just would like to have someone else score the 2 racks just to make sure they get the same general score. I am also going to bring a single shed for the guess the score. Also one of the racks is going to blow you guys away at how messed up it is, but you will have to wait til the campout -

I will bring up my target also and if Lance wants I will set it up at an unmarked distance and have do the distance shoot. Hit the balloon and get your name in a raffle. Make it just a fun shoot for a $1 get 6 shots and get a ticket for each hit for a good prize. What do you think Lance? And all the earnings go to coueswhitetail!!! -

What Caliber is most commonly used
azcouesandelk replied to blaserman's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
I would say the most commonly used caliber is the .270. It is a great round and you can get ammo for it cheap and it has been around for ages. -
I have the Swaro 80mm HD and I think it is the best scope on the market. It is a little heavy but it does make a difference the first and last hour of light. Also if you are wanting to do any digiscoping the 80mm will make a world of difference with the clarity of your pictures.

azcouesandelk replied to Lance's topic in CouesWhitetail.com Get-togethers!
Gino here is a link to the sight http://www.hhasports.com/sights/triplethreat.htm I am getting the bottom sight. You have your first 3 pins set for 20 through 40 then you can adjust the entire sight and use your bottom pin as if it were a single pin sight. My friend has this setup and he shoot at 270 fps and has enough adjustment out to 120 yards. -

I will be there for sure this year and hopefully my family will make it again this year. I just ordered my new site for my bow so you guys will be done at the 100 and 120 yard mark!!! If you did not make it last year it was alot of fun and you should definately try to make a valiant effort in making it up. Hey Lance what do you think about a guess the score contest up there this year? I can try to find a skull to bring up and see who can come the closest. Let me know what you think. -
BUMP! This is a great deal for a rifle/scope package if anybody is looking for one.

After my last thread looking for a hunting partner it really has got me looking at alot of different gear and starting to do alot of research. So I started making a list of what I would like to pack and how much it weighs to the ounce. Here is the list Pack: Eberlestock J104 6 pounds 14 ounces Rifle: Remington 700 mountain rifle w/ 3.5-10x50 ziess (also bipod and sling) 9 pounds 6 ounces Tent: Undecided as of now but want to stay under 4 pounds Bag: Undecided as of now but want to stay under 4 pounds Tripod: Full size Bogen 8 pounds 4 ounces (am going to buy new tripod around 2 pounds) Optics: 15x56 Swarovski and 20-60x80 Spotting Scope 6 pounds 8 ounces (not sure about scope yet) Kitchen: Undecided but found Trek 700 Ti Combo with Stove and it weighs a wopping 8 ounces Misc: Knife, sharpener, headlamp, camera, video camera, TP, and GPS approximately 3 pounds 12 ounces Clothes: 1 jacket, 2 extra pair of socks and extra t-shirt 2 pounds 8 ounces Food: 3 20 ounce mountain house meals, 3 power bars, 3 bags of jerky approximately 7 pounds 12 ounces Water: 2 gallons 16 pounds 12 ounces All together that came out to 70 pounds 4 ounces but if I do not know about the spotter yet and the lighter tripod will cut about 6 pounds off, also with out the video camera that would cut another pound and that would put me at 59 pounds 12 ounces. That is getting close to what I want but would still like to cut another 10 pounds or so. Matt, Doug, Amanda and any others that have done pack trips please if you have the time would you post what you guys carry, what each item weighs and any reccomondations.

Well my buddy Brandon is done for 2008 now. We went out Friday to one of his spots in 24B before we both had to be to work at 2 in hopes of finding some of the bucks that he had been seeing in the area. So friday we got up bright and early and got to our first glassing point about 30 minutes after glassing light. I am normally up for some good hikes and thought I hiked at a fast pace but Brandon is just plain ridiculous. He walks like an antelope runs! So we got up to our perch and started glassing. We glassed for around 30 minutes and I picked up a herd of javelina. We watched the pigs for a while and moved up the canyon farther to try to find the deer. We got to the next perch and Brandon picked up a 2x1 that he has seen many times. He was feeding right towards us so I snuck down and was able to get to 100 yards. After the buck went away we moved up to yet another area in hopes of finding one of the bigger bucks. We smelt a rotten carcas and found a dead pig. Brandon told me that earlier in the week he had found a blood trail up on the ridge the pig was on so we figured an archer just never found his pig. We got up to where we wanted to be and after another 30 minutes of glassing Brandon had found a doe about 2000 yards out. He got me setup to where the doe was and I spotted a buck walking up to the doe and right away we both knew it was a good buck. So we went ahead and cut the distance in half and relocated the buck bedded. Brandon then went on the stalk. The terrain was really rocky and was tough stalking to say the least. He worked his way up and around and got right up on the buck. He was able to get a clear shot and the buck ran about 50 yards and piled up. This was Brandons first archery buck and it was a great day in the field. Sadly we ended up being an hour late to work but I think they understood

Really Awesome Picture!!!
azcouesandelk posted a topic in Photography of Coues Deer and Other Wildlife
Here is a picture I scanned out of a magazine my dad got today. It is from "Sporting Classics" and it is of Jack O'Conners first coues buck that he killed in Sonora, Mexico in 1935!!! Thought it was a neat picture since Mr. O'Conner started the coues deer revolution. -
