Well just got back from my first excursion into 7W scouting for my archery bull tag. Overall I am very pleased. Did alot of looking around trying to figure out the lay of the land. Also spent alot of time checking tanks to see if they are holding water. So Saturday morning woke up and drove to an area where I was told to scout and while driving in saw 4 antelope with 1 nice buck. Continue going in and have to stop because of a shed right off the side of the road. This was my first ever brown 6 point and the easiest shed I have ever found It isn't the biggest shed in the world but I am happy with it. After checking some tanks in the area and doing some circles hoping to find the other side we move on to another area. While hiking out to check another tank we find 8 turkeys. Out of the 8 there were 3 toms and 2 jakes. Continue to the tank and do a quick scan of some of the hills and found a herd of 12 elk. None had any head gear and I couldn't tell if any of them were bulls. Get back to camp and take a break and decide to go on a good hike. Went on a 4 or 5 mile jaunt and came across this little busted up 4 point after about 3 miles. Made the hike worthwhile though. Did get onto 1 elk that I am posotive was a bull. Got a good look at him at 15 or so yards This morning decide to go check some more tanks and try to find the other side to the 6 point again. While driving to the spot we find a herd of 15 elk of the side of the road and keep on going. Go another 2 miles and another herd of elk cross the road. They went into a big meadow and there were 20 to 25 of them. Also there were 10 antelope mixed in the bunch 3 being bucks and 1 being a nice buck. Stop and glass some of the hills around those elk and find 2 more antelope both small bucks and another herd of 15 to 20 elk. Here are some pics of a small antelope buck and a couple of cows. Couldn't get many good pics today. Also with all the discussion about feral hogs lately I thought I would throw this into the mix. On Friday I took a short hike out of camp and came across a small feral hog skull. Found a good amount of tracks on a small hill near where the skull was found also. Sorry for the lengthy post but there will be many of these through the summer

Here is a picture from the flight seeing trip. This was not McKinely but it was on the same range and is around 15000 feet. Just so pristine and untouched. I loved it.

Live and learn is right. After spending close to 20 days down south archery pig and deer hunting I gained a wealth of knowledge. I feel extremely confident going into this next season already. -

GTT if it makes you feal better I had a stalk on a nice buck on that same hill! Made my loop around through the washes and started my climb towards the top. Dropped my fanny pack off about 100 yards away from where the buck was bedded and started my final stalk. Got to 31 yards from the yucca he was bedded behind. When I started to draw he stood up and started to walk. I got to about 3/4 draw and I accidently hit the release sending the arrow into the ground hitting a rock and having it ricoched (sp?) going about 10 feet over his back. After the shot I knew I just had an opprotunity of a life time. I sat down and thought about it for a minute and then decided I better get back to the guys up on the perch. You may know this buck as it was the one that Jerry missed. Only thing is that it isn't a 105+ buck just an 80ish buck. -
Josh that is an original. We found a box that had about 100 of them in it at the lodge at the "tent camp" so we decided to post them up around the camp.

For the next 2 weeks or so I will be posting pictures from a flight seeing trip I was able to do because 2 of my clients wanted to get an upclose look at McKinely (sp?) This is a pictured of a glacial run. Really awesome to see in person.

Sadly that sticker is not gone. Had to take it off so I wouldn't offend anybody at work

That is a sweet truck Bret. I bet you did some romping around in that. Also that whitetail is a nice looking buck and the muley is unique with only have the 1 pedicle. -
I want to get that one this year That is truly impressive can't wait for the measurements.

Great buck and great sheds. Now you will just have to find a bigger one this year Josh.

Great pics Bret keep em coming. What engine did it have in it? I had a 1984 suburban with a 454. That thing was a thrill ride to say the least. -
Different Mount Rainer. This is one in Alaska that we could see from the lodge. I may be wrong on the name but that is what I was told it was.

Good to see people are still looking! I was getting worried without someone else posting on the topic in over a week

Here is a picture of what we thought was the beginning of the northern lights. This was the darkest I saw it all summer. I guess the few hours of sleep I got each night were during the darkest parts

I seem to recall that spot. I believe that my dad and I killed our deer this year about 600 yards away from where that pig and lion were taken
