This is gonna get good!

I was able to sneak away Saturday morning to shoot my first birds of the season. I had a buddy in town so we got out to the desert at sunup and were both limited out by 9:30. I havent seen this many birds in years. The other great thing is there was nobody else out there. The only other person I saw was a game warden. My boys were none to happy to see their dad pull into the house at lunch time with the Ranger full of quail and they didnt get to go.

No. This was a new guy Id never met before. Eric something. Really nice guy. The manager of the unit is women who is nothing short of the gestapo. She really doesnt think that "we" the common people should be using "her" resources and dsert. Needless to say it was a nice surprise to meet this nice guy.

Where I hunt and put up cameras there is usually only one road in and the same road out. Im thinking about putting a camera on the road into the tank to capture vehicles coming into the tank. Not a perfect plan but could help.

Im with you. The day I actually catch someone stealing one of mine.......we will have fun!

Funny this thread appeared.............I went and checked my camera yesterday that is in some REMOTE country. Its barely accessable with a Ranger and defiantely not accessable in a vehicle. When I arrived my camera was in the "off" position. This stuck me as funny because I knew I had taken some test pictures when I set it up. Anyway I just assumed I had made a mental error and put a new card in it and headed out. When I got back to my truck and put the SD card in my computer there was 1 picture on it. It was a picture of someone's hairy a**. That is just wrong! I couldnt imagine ever doing something like that to someone elses property.

Lots and lots of birds in the desert surrounding Yuma. Probably the best quail year I can remember.

I left a camera out for 2 weeks before going to get it this morning. This is a new area I have never hunted before. I knew there were some good mule deer down there and had heard rumor that there was a few whitetail. Whats amazing is that I was getting pictures of deer at 1:00 pm and the temp was 118 degrees. Im pretty sure these deer have fried their brains. No animal in his right mind should be roaming desert in those temps. After reading on this site about all the camera theft and vandalism I was a little hesitant to leave my camera for 2 weeks but then I remembered this area is only a 1/2 mile short of heck and no one would be out checking water. I wish his back beam wasnt broken because he would have been a good buck. Interesting to find out there are pigs in the area. Look at the temperature!

You are absolutely right on! The AZ Game and Fish are a bunch of bumbleing buffoons. To schedule an aerial count during a hunt is moronic. These hunts dont last very long which means there is plenty of other time to do counts. I personally think the game and fish have been infiltrated by a bunch of tree hugging greenies who dont even want hunters to kill game. They are quite content to take our money and hope we dont kill "their" resources. I know this sounds a little cooky and conspiracy theorist but after my dealing with the state and federal agencies over the past few years I'm really starting to believe it. I would raise heck if I was you. I had the same thing happen in the KOFA national wildlife refuge during a deer hunt two years ago. While sitting on a ridge at sun up the feds chased a ewe throught the mountains finally shooting a net over the top of her and loading her in the helicopter. Would have been a cool thing to watch if it hadnt been in my deer honey hole on the second day of deer season.

I think a good swift beat down should do the trick in detouring people from stealing cameras. There is no difference between stealing a game camera and anything else. I guarantee if someone got their eye dotted they would think twice.

Just returned from opening weekend of Blacktail Deer hunting in central California. We had a great hunt. It took a lot of miles and boot leather but I finally stumbled on a pretty good buck. Sure glad I didnt miss......I would have been sick to see him running away. Even though he was a blacktail he had the body of a small mule deer. Almost killed me getting him out of the canyon. The country we were hunting was BEAUTIFUL but thick thick thick.

I used Lance and John at Timberland Outfitters last year for my archery bull tag in unit 10. I wouldnt hesitate to use them again or recommend them. They were fantastic! There is nothing I hate more in this world than a thief! Get a job, earn your own money and buy your own toys. Thiefs should be beaten repeatedly.

I recommend cutting an ear off each one that is caught. Think about it.....its a win win. First when you catch an illegal with one ear you know hes a repeat offender. Second, I guarantee if people knew they were going to lose an ear if caught it would discourage a few of them. Just my thoughts on the matter.

I shoot a Kimber 25-06. I loved the Federal 110 grain AccuBond rounds..........but Federal quit making them. I switched to Winchester 110 grain AccuBond and they shoot just as well. I have taken 2 mule deer with them. I cant hit the broad side of a barn but thats not the rounds fault. They pattern really well of a dead rest. Just my 2 cents.

Yep, kids are the best! Just had my 3rd little boy a couple weeks ago. We will be able to field our own soccer team if this keeps up.

We were wanting to try a new taxidermist so we took a couple Coues deer to Wellers last year. Just got them back in Feburary and they turned out fantastic! Bud is a great guy on top of doing great work.

Halleluja! I got my tag for next year! I was starting to sweat bullets. This is a great hunt and we look forward to it every year. As Matthew said we were 4th in line and wanted to get 5 tags for our group. Our plan was to go back to A cause we had a great hunt last year but when we got up there they only had 2 A tags left. We decided to split up and get 2 A tags and 3 D-West tags. No worries......as long as we got tags I feel fortunate. You talk about a backwards cluster, that game department was changing prices and tag numbers up until the last minute. Feels alot like Mexico.
