Dog training?
deserthntr replied to mbiewer's topic in Small Game, Upland Bird, and Waterfowl Hunting
the more birds you get him on the better, arlette and bob, who own desert pheasant, are great people and will help you out a ton, even just call them on the phone and talk to them. one thing with the shock collar, dont use it excessivly and slowly slowly work your way up the stimulation until you get their attention, you dont want to hurt them or use it as a punishment. if you choose to use it as a punishment when they dont listen, forget them listening when its off. also, if you use it to break him on chasing deer and rabbits, dont talk or yell at all, just crank it up so he yelps. but if you talk or yell, he will know you are causing it and not the animals he is chasing. then you will have to break him down and start over which is real hard. work on the basic commands first, here, whoa, etc. for his first season as long as he comes everytime dont run him with the shock collar, let him have fun. this first season is critical that he gets to just have fun, and never reprimand him when he has or is with a bird. they can associate it to being the bird. this is all just my experience and opinion. bird dog training is like trucks, everyone has their way they think is best. pick a program and stick to it, dont go change it. or mix a bunch of knowledge from others in your brain that you like and make your own program. -
i shot my bird in 23, but in a canyon that usually has 5 or 6 gobblers only had 2 this year. but i was able to get my bird down. and they were real quiet to, had to get them to shock gobble mostly.

you have $1200 to spend a new archery set-up, what would you get and why? i plan on saving up and buying a new bow at the sunrise shoot. PSE Dreamseason EVO, 70lb limbs between carbon express blue streaks, easton FMJ, and PSE's radial X-weaves stick with my spott hogg SDP rest, probably Ripcord code red, havent thought much about this tho. stick with my octane stabilizer.

i have the j105 and absolutely ,love it, like everyone said, big enough to pack out a whole javelina, deer, elk quartes, but it will zip up for less and more compressed room. i love mine. real comfortable
-
cool, thanks for all the tips guys. and thanks for that website hammy, i checked it out, it looks like they have some great deals

tell your buddy dont fret about buying something and it getting better the next year, thats how it always is, the 2012 bows will be expanded somehow over the 2011, so shoot your hoyts, mathews, pse's, bowtechs and see what he likes the best. for calls, get something and just practice with it, get a diaphram, open reed, bugle, different types, and practice, i dont think it really matters what call you use, its how elky you sound
-
if i have enough saved up before hand i will buy it from them, it may have to wait till after. i dont plan on making them set anything up for me, just shoot whatever they have already ready for people to try
-
ya i plan to run down to archery headquarters and shoot all the different bows im interested in, dont have my mind absolutely set on anything yet. but im really liking the EVO so far. gunna start saving up now and hopefully have enough money by the time sunrise comes around, i should.

1 Mil = 3.6" at 100 yards (3.44 MOA), 7.2" at 200, 10.8" at 300 etc.....Take 3.6 and muliply that by distance divided by 100. 3.6 * (300/100) = 10.8". Also, 3 Mils at 100 yards = 10.8" or 10.32 MOA. cool thanks for the formula. and jeffro, i agree, its a pretty sick scope
