    Outfitter Standardization and Restrictions

As someone who up until this yr was a licensed guide for almost 20yrs, I speak from experience when I say that things have changed drastically over the yrs. This change has taken place with both the DIY hunter and the guide / outfitter. The instant information / gratification that comes with internet use and the RIGHT NOW feedback that is provided has had a huge effect on how hunters view the end result. Gone are the days of when a 6x6 bull or a nice 4x4 MD were the talk of the neighborhood or local sporting good shop. Now if it's not 400 plus or 200 plus you wasted your tag...So both outfitted hunters and DIY hunters use EVERY tool that is available to them, Most top outfitters utilize trail cams, aircraft, and experienced guides and spotters, They do so because this is how they pay their bills and if they don't produce EVERY yr they are replaced by the next outfitter that does. As long as they abide by rules and regulations already in place there is no need for more oversight. When abuse of the rules takes place it needs to be addressed quickly and firmly so that it does not happen again...But with that said I find it amusing that yr after yr I read several stories on the internet of outfitters harassing hunters and blocking roads and running hunters off entire mountains, Yet with all the cell phones out there that all have the ability to take both pictures and record video not one shows up...Now i'm not gonna say it does not happen, I have had my share of run in's with other outfitters but 99% of the time they want nothing to do with a conflict, It's not good for business and if they break the law they can loose the ability to work !!...If you truly believe that outfitters are the only ones who have non tag holders sit water or wallows to keep other hunters out, Or have a large team of helpers / spotters you could not be more WRONG !!....Most Sept bull tag holders, Strip hunters, late Kaibab hunters have a small army with them, Along with trail cams and in some cases the ability to fly the unit, And in SEPT near everyone of them are tromping through the woods with a fu####king hoochie mama or recorded elk call pushing the button. ( But I digress ) But they ALL have the right and it's legal !!... Now on to who has the right to be where and when. I'm not sure why we as hunters feel that a tag gives us more right to be on PUBLIC land more then the next guy. The non hunters, picture takers, people who just want to see wild game up close have just as much right to be on that water hole, tree stand or hill side as we hunters do. I once had a group of 3 french tourist sitting in a ground blind I had built cause they wanted to see if bull elk really made that sound !!...They had just as much right to it as myself and my hunter had...Keep in mind that a little common sense and courtesy can go a long way, And we as hunters have no more right to the land as the next guy, Tag holder or not !!.....

    Optics: Swaro 12x50EL's or 15x56

'Sir.... As someone who spends apx 200 days a yr in the field and who owns both the EL 12's and the new 15's.....Hands down the 12's are the way to go....I don't think I took the 15's out of the pack on the last several hunts....

    Gotta vent!

One can only hope that a new / just getting started hunter or a non hunter that wants to get started or learn more about why we hunt does not view this thread, We as hunters and supposed adults should be ashamed of some of the replies. You want to shi*** in the blind, Pi**** in it REALLY !!!.....We Know NOTHING of the individual that left this blind, His level of experience, Reason for leaving the blind. WHY in the world would anyone in this situation not attempt to make contact with the other hunter, why not leave a note, Ask what his plans are, Are you hunting the same days, It just might be that he has no idea you are even planning on hunting that water / spot. Worst case you find out when he's hunting so you don't wast your time....Or share the blind...Unbelievable when did we as hunters loose the ability to act like adults !!!
  20. Flatlander..It was nice meeting you last night...Im not sure what was lost in translation but what I took away from last nights meeting and what the wildlife organization I was there to represent stance was, is that under NO !! circumstance should a club member have priority over anyone who is not a club member, and that the tag should go to the next person in line regardless of membership. Dave

Is it worth it to go to RMEF banquets?

You do realize the whole point of the banquet is to raise money....So as you put it... begging for money all night is why they are there. Most of the items are either live auction or raffle, So you can bid or buy raffle tickets.....It is not a hunting seminar it is a fund raiser so info will be limited if any at all... If you are looking for free items or give aways it's probably not the place for you...
  22. Allen....You probably don't realize we know one another. I sent you a PM with my phone number. In speaking with the commission in payson few weeks ago they have an idea that has not been made public yet. I would like to get your thoughts on it. Dave
  23. Gentleman let's not bring any common sense or the ability to think like an adult into any of the conversations that have ANYTHING to do with the Dept. It's extremely unfortunate that a large number of individuals that post regularly on this site find it necessary / easier to post uneducated, uninformed, inflammatory half truths or just plain lies in an effort to bash ANYTHING the Dept does. If these individuals took the time to e-mail / call the Dept they just might find answers to their questions, And then god forbid post FACTUAL information !!... Much like a group of school girls these individuals feed off one another and suck the life out of what otherwise is a great site. Dont get me wrong the Dept has it's faults and at times deserves to be called out, But the constant bitching and complaining is getting VERY OLD....

    Come on draw

Although I agree that two weeks greatly limits a tag holder, What is enough time ?. I have to put in for vacation time 12 months out for the first allotment and 6 months out for the 2nd go round, Should I expect the dept to have the draw done 6 months out ?...As far as waiting for the tag's in the mail, The day after the draw is done you can go into any G & F office and they can print you a tag, So you can have a tag in hand middle to late july. No matter when the draw is done somehow someway it wont be soon enough for everyone. I know of several individuals who for yrs have complained to the Dept that the draw is done to early, They want it pushed back several weeks so they can see how much rain the strip gets in late June / early July and how it effects antler growth....
