    Gotta vent!

One can only hope that a new / just getting started hunter or a non hunter that wants to get started or learn more about why we hunt does not view this thread, We as hunters and supposed adults should be ashamed of some of the replies. You want to shi*** in the blind, Pi**** in it REALLY !!!.....We Know NOTHING of the individual that left this blind, His level of experience, Reason for leaving the blind. WHY in the world would anyone in this situation not attempt to make contact with the other hunter, why not leave a note, Ask what his plans are, Are you hunting the same days, It just might be that he has no idea you are even planning on hunting that water / spot. Worst case you find out when he's hunting so you don't wast your time....Or share the blind...Unbelievable when did we as hunters loose the ability to act like adults !!!
  4. Flatlander..It was nice meeting you last night...Im not sure what was lost in translation but what I took away from last nights meeting and what the wildlife organization I was there to represent stance was, is that under NO !! circumstance should a club member have priority over anyone who is not a club member, and that the tag should go to the next person in line regardless of membership. Is it worth it to go to RMEF banquets?

You do realize the whole point of the banquet is to raise money....So as you put it... begging for money all night is why they are there. Most of the items are either live auction or raffle, So you can bid or buy raffle tickets.....It is not a hunting seminar it is a fund raiser so info will be limited if any at all... If you are looking for free items or give aways it's probably not the place for you...
  6. Allen....You probably don't realize we know one another. I sent you a PM with my phone number. In speaking with the commission in payson few weeks ago they have an idea that has not been made public yet. I would like to get your thoughts on it. Dave
  7. Gentleman let's not bring any common sense or the ability to think like an adult into any of the conversations that have ANYTHING to do with the Dept. It's extremely unfortunate that a large number of individuals that post regularly on this site find it necessary / easier to post uneducated, uninformed, inflammatory half truths or just plain lies in an effort to bash ANYTHING the Dept does. If these individuals took the time to e-mail / call the Dept they just might find answers to their questions, And then god forbid post FACTUAL information !!... Much like a group of school girls these individuals feed off one another and suck the life out of what otherwise is a great site. Dont get me wrong the Dept has it's faults and at times deserves to be called out, But the constant bitching and complaining is getting VERY OLD....

    Come on draw

Although I agree that two weeks greatly limits a tag holder, What is enough time ?. I have to put in for vacation time 12 months out for the first allotment and 6 months out for the 2nd go round, Should I expect the dept to have the draw done 6 months out ?...As far as waiting for the tag's in the mail, The day after the draw is done you can go into any G & F office and they can print you a tag, So you can have a tag in hand middle to late july. No matter when the draw is done somehow someway it wont be soon enough for everyone. I know of several individuals who for yrs have complained to the Dept that the draw is done to early, They want it pushed back several weeks so they can see how much rain the strip gets in late June / early July and how it effects antler growth....

    Come on draw

In an effort to help avoid any more confusion or any unnecessary G & F bashing....This is straight from page 22 of the reg's...Deadline for updating your credit card info is 11:59 PM ( mst ) Sunday July 6th. Applications for left over tag's will be accepted by mail after 8 am on July 28th. So a little common sense would tell you that if left over tag's will be available on July 28th that would mean the draw has to be completed and posted before then....Now if anybody has paid any attention to the draws over the last several yrs you know that the results are generally posted within a week of the credit cards being hit...Generally by the middle of July...So if and when july 28th comes and goes and the results aren't posted or the left over tag's aren't available then bash away !!

    Unit 33, 2450 Coues tags!

I had really hoped someone would contact the Dept and then post the info they received, But AZbearhunter pretty much hit the dept's stance....This is what the deer org's in the state have been told when the subject of doe hunts come up. ( this info does NOT include the Kaibab )...Reducing the number of doe's in a unit does not increase the number of bucks in the unit, It will in fact reduce the overall number of deer both buck and doe...The major deciding factor in doe hunts is the carrying capacity of the unit, as long as the unit has the capacity to sustain a healthy deer population doe hunts will not be put in place. A great deal of time and effort is expended each yr on carrying capacity, forage studies are done, Deer are captured and overall weight, body fat, and several other factors all play a part in the decision. The Dept has stated that the past two mild winters have produced a bumper crop of fawns, Fawn numbers are up all over the state, In fact on the Kaibab they counted 103 fawns for every 100 does....They have seen many sets of twins and overall very healthy deer state wide. So when you see tons of doe's be HAPPY !! all those doe's mean the potential for more bucks...

    Unit 33, 2450 Coues tags!

Has anyone approached the Dept with this question. You might get the tags you want or the answer as to why they dont issue general season doe tags....
  14. Did you try and call the main office and get answers...? Might be they screwed up..Might be an explanation...

    Unit 33, 2450 Coues tags!

Tom I could not agree more, Mandatory reporting should only be a tool used in obtaining more accurate wildlife numbers. The dept currently has a plus or minus of 10% on harvest numbers and total wildlife numbers. I think we as sportsman should do more to help get those numbers right.

    Unit 33, 2450 Coues tags!

I dont recall ever stating that any of the org's know more about harvest rates / populations then the Dept / wm's do. But what they can question is the data behind the numbers, and they do at great length. All of the org's in the state have at one point and time had an effect on tag numbers. I at no time singled you out as someone who should / needs to do a ride along it was a blanket statement to those that dont know how the system works or would like a better understanding of the system and how the numbers are obtained. If you would like more info on what the org's do and how involved they actually are in shaping the hunts and tag numbers please feel free to pm me I would be happy to speak with you,

Boy this will get shot all to heck...I just spent the last 3 hrs meeting with a G&F field biologist..Went over a ton of deer info, According to the dept deer numbers for both WT & MD are up state wide, Apx 30 bucks per 100 does for all units south of the ditch...They plan to hold tag numbers the same or slightly less in the near future. J /B to answer your question as to why should you complain to a wildlife org....The dept meets with them all several times a yr to get their input on what they have planned for the upcoming yr and the orgs have a great deal of input for both deer and elk and lope.. you guys should do a ride a long with the unit WM'S...See what they do and why....Gather the facts and more info and you might have a better understanding as to why things are done the way they are, At that point take you ideas with facts to the dept, If you dont like the numbers fight to get them lowered !!.....As far as mandatory harvest reporting goes I have pushed for over 10 yrs to have it...The Dept stance is they will loose hunters if they put a system in place that wont allow you to put in for a hunt the next yr if you have not reported the last yrs hunts....

Johnnie... while I agree we dont have much if any say in most things these days....We the hunters in this state do have a say, It may not be what we had in the past but the dept does listen....They put in place a new form so WE could have a voice...The turn outs have been HORRIBLE !!!..Less then 10 hunters per form...Out of over 250.000 hunters less then 10 !!....Would you listen ?

    Unit 33, 2450 Coues tags!

Their have been a few post that state...It's all about the money and G&F could care less about the animals...I will be the first to tell you I vehemently disagree with the department on many issues..But in this case they are only doing exactly what the MAJORITY of the hunters in this state asked for many yrs ago and what they continue to ask for to this day..In an effort to appease all sides the department put in place alternative management units with far less tags and even did away with hunts all together and would you believe that WE HUNTERS complain that there are not enough tags in those units...So please if you have solution that will make more then 250.000 hunters and outdoor enthusiast all happy....Put it out there, Take it to the Dept, Approach one of the many wildlife org's with it...Or sit behind a key board and complain....

    Unit 33, 2450 Coues tags!

A few things to keep in mind when the subject of tag allotments are discussed. Several yrs ago the G&F Dept put a great deal of time and effort into a hunter / public survey, When it was all said and done the OVERWHELMING !! theme was that hunters wanted more opportunity, Not less hunters, Not bigger animals, WE wanted to hunt more often. Now with that last statement....If you added up all the members of this site we would make up less then 1/8 of 1 percent of all the licensed hunters in this state, And the members of this site cant even agree on what would be an appropriate number of tags and hunt structure....Every unit in this state gets pounded from august till the new yr...Bird hunters, Small and big game hunters the list goes on forever !!!....You can complain and let it ruin your hunt or YOU can find a way to get away from the average hunter and have a successful hunt.....I currently sit on the board for one of the many wildlife org's in the state and over the last 25 yrs have worked with and for many of the others...I will tell you..... Too this day the majority of the members still want MORE tags.....

Also by monday at noon at least half the hunters have gone home and by wen morning you have the whole place to yourself....

    Unit 33, 2450 Coues tags!

We hunt this unit almost every yr. YES there are lots of hunters but 90 plus percent of them are within 2 miles or less then a rd. get a few miles back and you will have far less hunters and LOTS more deer...It's not uncommon to see several nice bucks and one or two great bucks with several hrs spent behind good glass every day...

    crash???

I don't want to ruin a perfectly good thread by bringing common sense and rational thinking to it but here goes...This is straight from a dept head at G & F and has been a topic of discussion at several commission meetings. The server that handles the application process is NOT at any of the G & F offices nor are they responsible for the volume or lack there of that the system can handle. It is the same system that the majority of city of Phx services use. The dept has NO other option but to use this system as they are a state agency. ( It is not the same system that handles the draw. That is out sourced to a private vender ) . The dept would like nothing more then to have their own system that they and they alone are responsible for but that will never happen according to the dept. They are aware of the issues that plague the system and have extended the application process to allow all applicants to apply. In a perfect world the system would work as it should. But very few things in this world are perfect. Looking at the big picture it makes one wonder what this world has come to when an issue such as the draw can bring out so much hate / anger and distrust....Dave
