I hope you'll paste your story into this thread, I'd love to read it. That's got to be a tremendous feeling to complete a 40-year quest. I shot my buck of a lifetime (the one in my avatar) early in my hunting career, so I've kept trying to upgrade my #2 buck for the last 30 years. Congrats on a great buck!

Old Buck, I went through the link he provided for sheep hunts in his other post and I found 20 successful applicants who drew with maximum points, and if there were 177 max point holders last year, the 157 remaining would be exactly right. I've got max points, too. The odds are getting a little better each year! Bob

According to the Arizona Wildlife Trophy book, Louis R. Dees took a 187.0 ram in the Kofa Game Range in 1965. Both horns were over 40" long. Looks like it would have been #1 in the AZ record book when it was first published in 1970, I believe.

What tag did you draw? The thumbnail screen shot you attached looks like you are referring to Hunt #3117 which has 350 permits. A 20% bonus point pass would take up 70 of the available permits with as many as 35 available to Non-residents. Need a little more information to figure it out.

Looking forward to it, and am bringing a buddy who hasn't been to the event before. It's an incredible collection of antlers. Bob

My son had a civilian tag over 10 years ago. There seemed to be a total disconnect between the personnel at the gate and the person in charge of the hunt. We showed up to scout the unit several times and only got the opportunity to actually go in once. Rifle hunters could only hunt the outer rim of the property, and the elk weren't stupid, they knew where they were safe. This was a September hunt, and it was great to hear a lot of bugling....but they were all off limits. We might have been able to score, but we couldn't close the deal in the limited time my son had away from school. Lesson learned: Don't bother applying again. Too much of a hassle trying to deal with people who could care less about the time and effort you were trying to invest in an elk hunt.

This is probably from before many of you were born, but here's a Kaibab buck I took in 1983 with multiple droppers.

Tikkas cycle shells smoother than anything else I've tried, and their trigger is a lot better than the Vanguard. I have an old Savage that doesn't have the Accu-trigger, so I can't compare it to their current model. I'd vote for the Tikka, too.

You're probably not going to find a great bull on the late hunt, so for me, I wouldn't hesitate to pull the trigger on a 300 bull on the first day. If you haven't taken a bull of that size, I'd think strongly of taking any 5-point or 6-point bull that gives you the opportunity. There are still great bulls out there in November like those we've been seeing posted from the archery hunt, but they are a different animal after the rut, so don't set your expectations too high.

Your M77 is the first generation of Ruger bolt action rifles and was manufactured until about 1992. Your model is commonly referred to as a "tang safety" model. After that date, they started to produce the M77 MK II, which was recently followed by the M77 Hawkeye. I like the old tang safety models and have a .338 I bought in 1984 that has taken a lot of animals over the years. I never had to mess with my trigger on it like I've had to do with other rifles I've bought since. They were a good value back in the day because you didn't have to pay extra to have a hinged floorplate like you did with a Remington 700, which you needed to upgrade to the BDL version to get the hinged floorplate, and they also came with scope rings that fit directly on the receiver, and didn't require you to buy bases and rings like the Remington.

Amanda, It doesn't appear that the Promaster has adjustable leg angles. Am I correct on that? Bob
