How do Shuttle T broaheads fly at longer distance? I've been thinking about going with them!

Bull Basin is a great place to buy archery equipment in Flagstaff, excellent customer service as well!

Going up to the Kaibab this week to help on the 12A turkey hunt! I was wondering if any of you who archery deer hunted up there noticed anymore or less turkeys than usual this season? Should be a great time up there, anybody else going fall turkey hunting in the Kaibab or other units this weekend? Good Luck!

It was the Outfitter hooked associated with the rancher no doubt! I agree with you 100%. There could still be more outfitters with vehicle access to the area, but I'm thinking there's not too many. I had a few responses of hunters with early rifle tags, but nobody seemed interested to hunt these bulls. I'm not sure if any of the bulls were taken today on the early hunt. I ended the hunt arrowing a 315 bull on Wednesday morning after some friends helped call the bull to 15 yards. We also used a cow decoy which seemed to help keep the elk confused and not run once the elk had spotted us. It was a great hunt and after 12 days of hunting I'm glad it ended with a with a bugling bull coming through the trees!

We thought about coming back with laterns, but we knew the blood trail was fading fast and made a decision to wait until the next mourning. If we still couldn't find it the next mourning in the daylight and giving him all night in his bed, do you think we could have really found him that night? I guess people in 10 just drive roads up and down at the prime time of evenings to harvest elk which is ok. Just don't make sense when I have signs out and the same truck drives past the tank four times and shuts his door right next to the tank. He was being pretty dis-respectful in my opinion. So what would you of done if I beat you to the tank? I'm sorry, but the sign bull shoot stuff has to stop! Sorry if I piss anyone off just my two sense! I agree first come gets the tank. When I put signs out that means I'm sitting the tank at that time, and that means I'm first to the tank. I don't leave signs up before or after sitting a tank. I saw a few others on this hunt with signs up at tanks as well, and I would rather have that then walk in on them and disrupt their hunt. Lark I understand your view on the situation and the tracking of the bull. It was a tough decision, and we feel every effort was made to recover the bull. I knew we would end up finding the bull during the hunt, but I had a feeling it would be too late and it was. I'm also not that surprised the other hunter took the bull, he probably felt the bull wouldn't be found and didn't want the antlers to go to waste. It would be nice if whoever happened to find the bull saw this post and felt the need to return the antlers.

I was the hunter in this situation. I'm almost certain these are not anti's. The reason is this is a closed area to vehicles on the boquillas and this person has access to the area. Also these elk are isolated, this was not a rancher they were perched on the hill above obviously glassing these bulls and have been for a couple weeks most likely. They knew when to let out the yelling, and they knew to speed off as fast as possible so I couldn't get a license plat on them. If I give away the location someone would probably have a lot better idea of who it could be or a better lead but I probably won't do that; except the first person with an early rifle tag that wants to hunt these bulls!

I think the rut intensity has to do with the health of the cows and bulls and the weather and available water at the time of the rut. This year some areas look really good and others not so good. The timing I believe has more to do with the area of the State you're in or unit, and again weather the cooler the earlier usually. Over the years I've noticed the bugling gets going decent around Sep 3-10 or close to Labor day. From the 11-15 it picks up quite a bit and then from Sep 15-25 I feel it's going the strongest in most units. From Sep 25-Oct 5th it's pretty strong usually but that's when I notice a lot of broken bulls running around. Heard bulls are with the cows and harder to call in and that's when you would be happy to have an early rifle bull tag. From about Oct 6th and after I think the rut begins to get less intense everyday. This year I think it will get going good around the 13-16th and get stronger each day. The beginning of the hunt will be slow around the 9th but hopefully will pick up pretty quick.

I heard my first two bugles yesterday evening! All the bulls I saw were scraped with white antlers! Hoping for a good rut year..

I saw 290" 6 pt rubbed today, also a 330 type bull completely clean as well. Saw a lot of smaller bulls still in full velvet.

Those are some great bucks lance! Have you seen any bucks this year that look to be as big as the bucks you guys took last year? It will be hard to beat those bucks, good luck on the hunt!!

Great video and nice bulls! Both the typ and non-typ are great bulls, and you don't see many non-typ with split thirds! The typical 6 point would be hard to pass up, he's very nice and probably close to 350 with great eyeguards. Good luck to him on that hunt!

Not drawn for deer, just purchased bonus points for the other! Good luck!!!

I went out elk scouting yesterday to see how the antler growth was looking this year. These are pics off a video camera taken yesterday June 12th. From what I see the antlers are looking pretty good for it only being mid June, what do you guys think? Overall the grass in most areas looks good, but there was a lot of dry tanks so hopefully the monsoons will come early! Anybody else have any pics from this year or reports of what kind of antler growth we should expect for this years elk and deer?

I looked over the number at the top of my checks but didn't notice any hunt numbers matching. Not sure what those numbers at the top mean though?

Here's a link to check out which parts of Arizona received more precipitation over the last year! This map was as of March 21st 2011. Flagstaff Airport was at 102% of annual precipitation while the Grand Canyon was at 113% of normal. It dried out quick going east of Flagstaff, while Winslow was only at 57% of normal precip. Click on the map to enlarge. My link
