I thought a few of these bulls looked pretty good for it being mid June, give it another month and it will be a lot easier to tell what these bulls will end up being. If anybody else has any scouting pics of bulls over the next couple months post them up! Hopefully I'll have some luck over the next couple months and I'll be able to post some better pics!

I think both unit 1 and 27 will be pretty bad hunts this year. Even after the monsoon rains this year I don't think enough green will be available to bring many elk back. Next year and especially the years after it could turn into a very good hunt again! I was fortunate to draw a bull tag this year in a different unit and couldn't imagine losing it due to a fire. I hope all of you with 1 and 27 tags get something in fair comparison for drawing tags this year. I know a fire is out of game and fish's control, but the hunters who applied before the hunt didn't apply for a unit that just finished burning. Good luck to you guys with tags and let us know what you find out with this situation!

Take the survey if you can. I was in favor of more quality hunts and better quality deer hunts south of the ditch. http://www.azgfd.gov/h_f/hunt_guidelines.shtml

Glad to hear Big Lake store is still standing along with the campground. Hopefully they can keep the fire from burning west toward Mt. baldy and Sunrise Resort. It looks like the north part of the fire is moving pretty good, anybody have reports on how active the west side of the fire is? I've seen multiple news stations reporting that the fire has grown to 389,000 acres or 607 sq miles as of today, but I'm not sure how accurate that number is.

This fire was 120 acres last night and grew to 800+ acres last night. It looks like they'll have it under control shortly though!

Here is some photos of the Engineer Fire west of Flagstaff at 120+ acres. This fire started today around 12:00 p.m. and is near the Navajo Army Depot. 4 Hotshot crews, 9 engines, 5 water tenders, 3 dozers, 2 heavy air tankers and 2 helicopters, an air attack coordination airplane and lead airplane. Total personnel on scene comprise approximately 110 personnel, and 4 additional crews are en route. No evacuations as of yet.

This fire has gone from 60,000 acres yesterday evening to 106,000 acres overnight. That's a lot of acres burnt up in a short time. Hopefully the winds die down so they can try and get some containment on it soon!

I just shot the Z7 Extreme, the Z7, and the Z7 Magnum next to each other. I went back and forth for over an hour shooting each of them until I could make a good decision on which bow I wanted. Z7: At 321 IBO, and 31" long it seemed like this would be the bow for me. After shooting it for a while I thought it felt better in the hands and lighter then the Z7 Magnum. It had a very smooth draw and a noticeably lighter weight than the Z7 Magnum. The string sat against my face slightly better than the Magnum as well. Z7 Magnum: With an IBO of 340, and length of 32". This bow felt like the heaviest out of the three bows to me, and I could easily notice the weight. It was also the longest of the three bows and most expensive at around 989.00. It had a smooth draw and shot fast, but the string felt like it sat against my face too much. Also the bow felt long when I was shooting it, almost too straight up and down for me. It was a great bow though, but for the price, weight and length I thought the Z7 was a better shooting bow. Z7 Extreme: At 330 IBO, and 28" long. This bow was very light weight, probably the lightest bow I have ever shot. The difference in weight between the extreme and magnum was huge IMO. The extreme was the easiest to draw bow I have ever pulled back! When I pulled this bow back I could hardly feel it, the draw cycle was so short and smooth even with my 30" draw. With all three of these bows being high quality, I was amazed I could feel such a difference in shooting comfort with the extreme compared to the Z7 and Z7 Magnum. Overall all three bows were great, but I had to take home the Z7 Extreme! If your looking for a smooth shooting bow that's a bit shorter this bow will do it for you, it is just Awesome!!!

Here's a pic of my set up for this year's elk hunt! The arrows hang a bit below the cam on the Z7 extreme being that I have a longer draw at 30".

oops somebody made a typo in the archery deer section, 6B south ???? I believe that should read 6A South I noticed the typo also. At the top (page 3) under deer guidelines it says 6A South will be added for a January 1-15th deer season. Under the January archery season dates (page 12) it has 6B January 1-15. The extension of the January hunt in a few units from 15 days to the full 30 will be nice. I like the reduction of permits in unit 12A where they state they are trying for a 5-7% population growth. I think that unit has had way too many tags and it was time to reduce them. Maybe unit 12A will someday be what it once was? An increase in the rifle strip deer tags seems ok, but a reduction in the archery permits I don't agree with.

PM Sent, Good luck on the hunt!

I was fortunate to draw unit 10 archery bull elk this year!... I'm wondering if anybody on cw.com has hunted this unit in the past, or would like to talk about their experience hunting this area, or techniques used on the hunt? I'm Looking forward to doing a lot of scouting this summer, hopefully I'll have some nice elk pics or video to post as the hunt nears!

No antelope this year, now have 19 pts!
-
Thanks for the help, looking forward to a great hunt!!!
-
Standman thanks, was that 10 archery bull?
-
Can someone look up hunt 3143 for archery bull? Also 3021? No antelope for me this year, now have 19 pts!
-
I believe if they had 19B as their first or second choice they wouldn't look at their third choice until after the first two choices were full. I'm not positive on this but I think in the 20% max point pool they only look at your first two choices. The 3rd-5th choices are for after the first draw and there wouldn't be any antelope tags available to draw.

Wow, talking about being patient waiting to get info on a draw, 17 years?! I've been waiting quite a while for an antelope tag as well, I will have 18 pts in this years draw. Still puts me about 2 pts behind a guaranteed tag in the hardest to draw units, and it's amazing how that many points will only give me a very slim shot at drawing the units I put in for this year. Anybody else here have a bunch of points for elk or goats this year? Good luck to all in the draw!
