  1. I'll be going scouting this evening, and see if I can locate the bucks. Good Luck hunting and let us know how your archery hunt goes this season. Mike

    Information for Unit 30B

That website workhorse mentioned will probably tell you more about the unit than most hunters on this forum can. There's a few other 30B locations about the mule mountains and other spots throughout this forum. One of the topics was if there was any deer in 30B. To tell you the truth not many, though I have never hunted the unit, but the kill percent sucks. Just try to go to the higher hills in the unit and glass in the mornings and evenings. Try and email some other hunters with 30B tags on this forum and they may provide information. You probably took this tag because a hunt is better than no hunt so get out there and scout. Good Luck Later, Mike
  3. What a great trail cam pic. Do you know what unit that's in? I hope that deer finally got the clue with that flash lighting up the area. How close the lion is to the deer you would think the deer would have noticed. Just shows how bad I suck at sneaking up on those deer compared to a lion.

    6b Coues

Pines have the bigger bucks, but can be harder to find. Good Luck

    G&F Alternative survey

I filled out the survey as well. Not sure about those additional bonus points for helping out Arizona wildlife. If that happens, I put one point at the most should be awarded. I like helping but hunters would take advantage of it, if it's not limited to a certain amout of points. Later, Mike
  6. Saw the bear on the news last night and he looked a little hung over. Good for that bear he probably won't remember a thing. Later, Mike
  7. CHD, I think I'm good now; and that crap I posted above forget about it. I know what you mean, I just got a little bent out of shape about fighting USO. I don't like hunters getting well known for poached animals either and I'm glad you posted something about it. Well known outfitters on magazine covers probably do poach once in a while, it's just nearly impossible to pick out the right ones. Good Luck Hunting this year. Later, Mike
  8. CHD, Who the fuc* you think you are? I fought USO because I deserve the right to hunt over a nonresident. I support the Arizona Game and Fish Department to help wildlife in Arizona by attending events and spending money for them. You sound like a USO supporter yourself and that would qualify you as a poacher yourself. I don't need to do any research on wheather your a poacher or not, just like you didn't do any research or thinking before you posted. Get rid of your big bold letters, yes we can see. If you are "Buster" under a new name spend your time somewhere else, I got tired of that SH*t a long time ago. Other than that keep fighting USO and sending emails. Later, Mike

    Az Unit 9 Elk

Just heard from Nick Franklin's brother that McClendon flew units 9 and 10 recently and saw one 400 plus bull in each unit. I'm sure McClendon will find a few more before the season starts. I've never seen a 400 point bull but this year I'am putting all the scouting in to find one. I looked at McClendon's prices for a guided hunt and it was pretty expensive, but I'm sure the hunt will be worth every penny. If I do find a bull of that caliber I will try and get pics and then I will post the pics. Good luck ya all.
  10. I think Arizona could handle a couple Cabelas stores like that.
  11. Jim Zumbo seems a little confused right now in his decision to stay out of Arizona. He wanted an elk tag so bad in this State and he got one and now he won't use it. That's good I would rather have a resident have an oppotunity at the elk he would have shot. If he were to hunt unit 10 he would have got a big one because elk don't have eyes on top of their head. I'm sure I'll see a USO guide in unit 9 this year on my elk hunt and I havn't decided what will happen when I do. I really don't want to meet a USO outfitter at a tank though that just might do it for them.

    Bradshaw Coues?

That sounds about right Rembrant. I've been thinking of why there arn't many or any coues there and couldn't come up with any. Sounds good to me, the lions and no water will take care of any deer herd.

    Scouting Az.

While spot lighting last night I finally found some muleys worth chasing this August. It's the same group I hunt every season it's just they always take forever to find and I know the area they hang in. Every year they get bigger and there's always a smaller buck hanging with them. These bucks I estimated last year at 32-35 inches wide tall and very thick. No joke; and I know what it takes to make a 30 inhcer. Last year there were two at that mark and the other two one was about 30 and the fourth was about a 22 inch four point. By last nights sighting I only saw two that were huge and the third was a big 2pt. Last season my brother got a shot at the 30 incher because the monsters were to far I guess. He missed and this year hopefully that won't happen. Good Luck this archery season.

    Lion Experience

My dad has a lion tag to fill anytime during the rest of 2004 with hounds. This guide says any fresh track within a couple days and his dogs will track it right down. Back in March this guide and a hunter took a big tom west of Snow Bowl by the peaks. Found some nice size lion tracks in unit 7 coming to a tank but It's hard to get the guide up here with his hounds quickly. Let me know an area where you have a big lion or a lot in an area and that you wouldn't mind having one taken out. We'll easily get one this fall when the snow falls but nows your chance to save a few of your deer, because I believe this guide will continue hunting the lions with other hunters to get there population down.
  16. Josh, when you're as good as you are at archery hunting you could probably wait until the last day of the archery season before heading out. I guess the first week or so of the season you'll have to chase carp around and wait for the coues to get fully grown. I'm still finding elk antler sheds up around Flagstaff so I'll have to have you buy them this Spring. Good Luck Hunting!
  17. When do coues deer antlers stop growing? Been scouting out some muleys and they don't look fully grown yet. The elk around Flagstaff have yet to fill out there top points fully. Since elk and deer lose antlers at different times, I guess they will finally end the growing cycle sometime here in August. Coues loose antlers a little later so maybe this coues does have a couple more weeks of growing. He would just be Gigantic then, putting him into the 120's because he has such great width.

    Topo Maps

I agree with Tam totally about getting a statewide map for your computer. I have Topo USA for my computer and I can look on my GPS where I've marked something and then place the location on my map. Very easy to use and it has every feature you can think of. The only thing is that mine doesn't have the road numbers so I have to type them all in, which isn't hard at all. As far as the huntmap, it is a good map for being out in the unit for scouting good tank locations and roads and it is laminated with very tough bendable plastic so it can't be torn up. This plastic doesn't wrinkle up at all like other maps and is very clear so you can see right through the plastc covering.

    Topo Maps

I just got my unit 9 map from www.huntmap.com and the maps are fantastic. They are a little expensive but it has your unit outlined and all the boundaries and tank names in the unit. My unit 9 map is about 3 by 3 1/2 feet which is a little big but easy to look at. Also I noticed more roads are on this map then any forest service map. It also has elevations and square miles divided out throughout the whole unit. The best map out right now so you might want to consider spending a little extra for a good map.

    Az Unit 9 Elk

Yes last season was a great year for archery bull. I was in 5B south last season and bulls started to bugle well before sunrise and end in late morning and in the evening the bulls would start to bugle about two hours before sunset. The kill percentages were great in just about every elk unit last archery season. I hope this years rut compares to last years rut so I can have some chances at a big bull. Should be Awesome
  21. I think that buck was worth starting a new forum on, he's a MONSTER. I guessed 118 but maybe thats two high because it looks to be a 3 by 4. It looks like a small fourth point starting on the deers right antler. Reminds me of the three by three you took a couple years ago archery hunting. Good Luck Hunting

    Nice Coues Deer buck

Arizona Griz, I didn't want that quote to hit personally. You mentioned on setting up a treestand, so if both of you were to know about the buck how it would all work out.

    36 B december hunt

That's interesting, I understand what you mean but never knew AZGF did it that way. Good Luck Hunting
  24. Someone probably hit it with a car and then finished it off because it was wounded so bad. It's too bad your the first coues first deer sighting had four broken legs and a hole out the side of the chest.

    Nice Coues Deer buck

Arizona Griz Your probably thinking this is the last time I post one of my pictures on this forum. I got people trying to narrow this buck down to a small area. Don't worry theres to many cedars and junipers in this state and none of us will ever luck into this giant. Prepare yourself to hunt a monster of a lifetime this upcoming archery season. Oh yeah who gets the treestand to sit in, your co-worker or you?
