Thoughts on Second Archery Season in November

As mentioned tanks are worth checking out especially if it's dry. Both 7W and 10 have good hills to glass from the top of. If you can find where some bulls are coming out to feed in the morning or evening that could be a great place to set up a blind. Good luck and let us know how you do!
  2. The future of hunting in Arizona will soon be gone if Wolves are reintroduced to the current plan. There's environmentalist out there that don't like hunting at all, and they know they aren't going to take our guns to stop hunting.....so they might as well try another way. It all started in 1998 and was a plan to re-introduce a small amount of Wolves to see how they do. Of course they're going to do well with plenty of elk and deer to thrive on....and were not suppost to shoot them until our life is threatened! It's a long term plan for these groups to start with a small number of Wolves so basically the public gets used to them being part of the Wild. Then once we're used to their recovery they'll increase the population and expand throughout all of Arizona. After they get 1,000 Wolves, in a few years they'll be asking for 2,000. It's going to be like Idaho and Wyoming shortly if something is not done soon! I know Arizona has a dedicated group of Sportsman, maybe the strongest out West. I also feel that 99% of hunters do not want to see Wolves expand throughout Arizona and New Mexico! There has to be someway to combine our efforts as a group of hunters to fight against any Wolf introduction plan that ever hits Arizona!

They are starting to hit CC

Your post makes me think they're still hitting Credit Cards, being they pretty much give those tags away!

They are starting to hit CC

No hits yet on my card. Someone in the group drew a good elk tag, so at least I'm going hunting! Anybody getting CC hits this afternoon?

Poaching a lion - updated with pics

Didn't intend to sound ignorant. I feel plenty of hunters out there would enjoy to tag along chasing lions with dogs and would be completely satisfied with their hunt while tagging a smaller cat.

Poaching a lion - updated with pics

If given the opportunity and being legal take a lion out. The pics on whether the lion has spots is tough to tell, if I didn't see spots I would shoot. What I don't like to see is dogs chasing lions in trees and the lion being let go for not having a long enough tail. There's a reason for letting the lion go being that hunter wants a full grown lion with a long tail, but let another hunter tag along on the hunt and take out the smaller tailed lions!

    How many points?

Currently have 21 pts and my odds of drawing this year aren't much better than last. Could have a tag in a couple rifle units, but the one I'm after could take close to five years to draw. There used to be great info on draw odds for antelope on monstermuleys, but that has changed. You can still get specific draw odds for each unit from the azgfd. Last I saw you could guarantee a rifle tag in the 13A/B area with close to 17-18 pts. It took around 20 pts to draw rifle in 3, 18A/B, 19A and a couple others. It took around 21-22 pts for units 5,7,9. Unit 10 rifle was a guarantee draw about 4 years ago with 20 pts, but now takes max (23,24?), or one less. With ten more tags in unit 10 this year it will most likely help out the higher end point holders a little bit. Most of the units continue to take longer to guarantee a tag because the amount of applicants increase significantly just below max pts. It's almost like a point creep which will make a guarantee draw in certain units take many more years to draw depending on the unit you are after.

    QAD Exodus Broadheads

I will have to take a look at the Wac em' broadhead and see how they compare as well, thanks!

    QAD Exodus Broadheads

I've been looking over reviews and the QAD Exodus Broadhead is looking pretty good. I'm looking for a 85 grain broadhead that will fly like a field point at long ranges to 100 yards. This one seems like it might do that, and is also reported to be a very strong broadhead. I know G5, Muzzy and Thunderhead make good broaheads, but I've seen too many reviews that concern me with their accuracy at longer ranges. The only other broadheads I could find that compares to the accurracy of the QAD Exodus at long range is the Shuttle T-Lock and Steel force phatheads. The Shuttle T is available in 100 or 125 grain, and the QAD is available in 85 or 100 grain, with the 125 grain to possibly come in 2013. The Shuttle T-Lock had two negatives in the reviews, and it was that they aren't sharp enough out of the box and they don't penetrate quite as much as other broadheads. The QAD Exodus was reviewed to go through steel drums and still look brand new. Also they are reported to shoot through some targets, so finding a quality target would be helpful. They are suppost to be very quite in flight and leave gaping wound channels. If they're as good as the sound I'll be practicing with the QAD Exodus broadhead very soon!
