pwrguy replied to SO I HUNT's topic in Long Range Shooting
I think it is great. Probably others that will get the job done, but this one has given me great results -

I agree with what kidso said. Find the exact spot and he is most likely there. If there is no blood to follow, get to work, you only have 2 day's left Don't beat yourself up over what could have been.

Little late season freak action!

No doubter, to much character to pass up with any tag in my hand. -
Thanks missedagain, now I have to figure out all the different reports to get the information I am looking for. It will give me something to play with over the break

Does G&F publish the results of the previous year showing by hunt number the breakdown of how many bonus points each successful applicant had. I am looking for numbers on the 2014 Elk/Antelope draw to calculate draw odds

Determining the value of guns and reloading equipment.
pwrguy replied to naturegirl's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
It's worth what someone will pay for it. I always like to look stuff up and see what it is worth new and then go from there. I don't know of any publication like KBB for guns and reloading. You can look up a lot of things on ebay and see what they went for to get an idea. Guns are difficult, most guns don't loose value and will get 90 percent or more what they were new unless they are worn out or abused. -
Wow!!! fantastic buck

That was a steal. Great shooter.

It sickens me to think this is worthy of a news story. What a country of sheeeeeeeple

I think the main limitation of most ranges around is a place where the users can shoot long range. I understand it is difficult to safely have multiple users shooting 1000 yards, but it would be nice to have a few places around. That being said, if you want 300 yards or less, I have been happy with the range here in Payson

Yep, easy to do if you don't pay attention. I did it a few years back shooting an unfamiliar rifle in an awkward position. I did at least get the satisfaction of a good clean hit on the deer out at 500 yards:)

Excellent. Meat in the freezer!!

So...I would like to revive this thread and get some more input from CW members. So I took bowhnt's extra TC Pro hunter Encore off his hands, thank you by the way. He has this thing already dialed in great to use with a scope and sabots, but I have to make some changes to take it to Colorado. I have ordered Hornady FPB 350 Grain and TC Maxi-ball 370 grains as my first 2 bullets to try. I'm going to stick with the BH209 that he has had much success with. What would be a good starting powder charge, and how do you know when to stop, other than group size of course? In other words can you find a max charge published, or is there some sort of indicator? Thanks in advance for replies.

I use the piranta with the orange handle.I can change the blade out in about 20 seconds, I used the new blade to pry the back end of the old blade on the knife and pull it away from the handle, no problem have never been cut knock on wood.as far as sharpening them I would rather use the space in my pack for a dozen new blades rather than a knife sharpener.in 2010 I completely boned out a moose with the piranta including taking the head off and the hindquarters. It did take about 6 or 8 blades to get the job done

Question on Match Grade and Ballistic Tip (Accuracy)
pwrguy replied to Stallone A.'s topic in Long Range Shooting
I love the Amax for deer. 2 deer last year 1 antelope this year. Devastating wound channel that left no doubt of the outcome with a shot in or close to the vitals. The deer were at 580 and 620 yards, the antelope was at 300. I would most likely choose another bullet for anything larger than a deer, but hard to beat the consistency and price of the amax for hunting or target. -
Is it over? I thought this hunt was still ongoing. +1 to what 218 said.

Great deal, I would be all over it if the bolt was on the other side

An interesting read. I have not heard much negative about Vortex until now. Personally I like the VX3 and VX4 from Leupold, but these would be considered in a different price point than most Vortex scopes. I also think the Nightforce are great scopes as well.
