Question on Match Grade and Ballistic Tip (Accuracy)
pwrguy replied to Stallone A.'s topic in Long Range Shooting
I love the Amax for deer. 2 deer last year 1 antelope this year. Devastating wound channel that left no doubt of the outcome with a shot in or close to the vitals. The deer were at 580 and 620 yards, the antelope was at 300. I would most likely choose another bullet for anything larger than a deer, but hard to beat the consistency and price of the amax for hunting or target. -
Is it over? I thought this hunt was still ongoing. +1 to what 218 said.

Great deal, I would be all over it if the bolt was on the other side

An interesting read. I have not heard much negative about Vortex until now. Personally I like the VX3 and VX4 from Leupold, but these would be considered in a different price point than most Vortex scopes. I also think the Nightforce are great scopes as well.

Got me an 8 pointer.... (Updated) another 8 pointer
pwrguy replied to CWpredator's topic in Other Big Game
No kidding. They don't live long with a hole like that -
Great job Michael. Congrats on a long awaited dream come true.

Very nice, awesome buck.

I'm curious as to which buffalo hunts most of you are putting in for. I have always been afraid of the Kaibab one due to terrain/proximity to the national park etc. It seems like many of the successful hunters are using a guide. I put in for the Raymond ranch one for like the 30th time in my life.

Go out and shoot at the range you want to shoot and see where it hits and how it groups. No point in getting into to much of the science and math at this late stage of the game. Whatever range your group goes to more than 5 inches is too far for you. Good luck.

Cool buck

I don't know if there is something that can measure it, I doubt it. If you know the velocity and bullet weight the math don't lie?

I know spiders are difficult to control, I would also be interested to hear if there are any effective answers. There has to be some pest control people on CWT.

Awesome muley, congrats

Been a couple of years since I back pack hunted, I have a small one man tent made by MSR that has served me well a few times. I may pack the S&W but I usually leave the cot at home unless I am sleeping near the truck

Don't watch much college football...so...how about them cardinals.

I really like the look of that magnetospeed, but have never had the opportunity to try one. I use an inexpensive shooting chrony and it seems to get the job done. My results seem to work well with published bullet drops and ballistic software. I think you can get the job done with any of them it just depends on your pocketbook.

During the hot hunts (August - November) I glass everywhere for the first couple of hours and then focus on shade the rest of the day. That does not mean I am not looking everywhere, you never know. Deer are not stupid except during the rut....when it is hot and sunny they will be found laying in the shade, that being said, facing south looking at North facing slopes is a good bet. They will almost always stand up 1-4 times per day to stretch and move and that is the time you need to be looking.

Amazing! You really should be a journalist. I felt like I was "there" on the hunt the whole time.

Trigger pull for hunting rifle
pwrguy replied to mulie hunter's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
Yep, no wrong answer, I have mine set at 1.5 Lbs, but I don't consider it a good rifle unless the trigger is below 3 pounds, under 16 oz is getting to hairy for me as far as a hunting rig -

Played with it for a while, observed no noticeable improvement in group size.
