    Radios

All of the easily available radio's stink. I have a 70 dollar pair I bought at Home Depot for 70.00 that work as good as my previous $200.00 pair. I would be curious to hear what radio profesionals think are the best.

    News on Leaving trailers

The real solution would simply be enforce the 14 day rule already in place! Not continue to take more and more, until they get what they really want. NO USE AT ALL WHEN IT COMES TO HUNTING!!! We had better wake up. Take care, Willie +1 Well said.

    Match grade primers?

I have used both and can't tell the difference, I must admit that I have never shot in a match, my shooting is strictly preparation for hunting.

    News on Leaving trailers

I didn't mind the 2 week rule, that was reasonable. What we have now is absurd, and I can't believe the ammount of hunters on this forum that support this nonsense. I don't hunt with a trailer anymore but I used to. What a great option it used to be to leave it at a site, come back to work a few day's and go back up and finish a hunt. The biggest part of the problem is our growing population and the reduced ammount of places where it is legal to camp. The federal government and the tree hugging wimps that control them want to herd us all into litttle numbered camp sites where we can be branded and herded like the cattle we have become. There are millions of acres of unused forest that just cannot be accessed or there are no spur roads or pullouts that would be suitable for camping. Why do we have to put up with this BS. I promise you there are going to be cases of people that are just away from thier camp for the day scouting or hunting and are going to come back to their stuff missing. It is going to come down to having to talk someone to staying in camp to guard your sfuff while you go out hunting for the day. This is just another case of the socialism that the younger generation has come to accept, but I promise you, you won't like what is coming next.

    Sendero 7mag options

I have to agree with averagejoe on this one. Trigger first, I nice crisp trigger between 1 and 3 pounds, my preference is 1.5 LBS. Reloads will allow you to tune to your gun and you should be getting1 to 1/2 moa without spending a bunch of money. If you have one of those rare bad barrells, you might consider a new barrell, but I would play with the loads first and see what the gun can do before spending any more money.
  15. I am looking for a solid tripod. My requirements are that it be sturdy fully extended and able to support a 12 pound rifle if needed. I am 6-1 and it need to be tall enough to glass behind. I am thinking maybe carbon fiber for the strength, but would consider other materials. It needs to articulate easily and lock into position at various points. Weight is a consideration, but strong and sturdy need to be there as well. Tell me what you use and would you recommend.

    Best all-around-tripod

Thanks Amanda, I did see that one, but the max height is a little short of what I am looking for. Great deal for someone that does not need to stand and is not 6-1. There are some other good options, but they are pricey.

    What load?

All of the bullets mentioned above are more than adequate for deer. Group size and practice is the key. Also, don't shoot anything at ranges you have never shot before, it took me a long time to learn this lesson. If you want to kill deer at 450 yards, go out and practice at 450 yards and prove what the bullet does. Although they can be helpfull, don't rely on drop charts and ballistics programs. One other thing. I have witnessed a couple of times deer that were hit pretty well that were almost not recovered due to the terrain these suckers live in. We had one last year that went about 50 yards, and the only reason we recovered him was we saw what direction he went after he was hit. There was no visible blood except where he fell. If you think you hit one spend a lot of time looking in every nook and cranny within a couple hundred yards.

I'm not looking for perfection, I know that doesn't exist. The reason I question the head is the stated 11 pound weight capacity. I am not in the market for the head right now anyway, I am happy with the pistol grip I am using for my glass. I am just looking for for honest opinions. Thanks.

The Calumet sounds like a great setup except for the twistlock. I like the way it collapses neatly. Hunthard, I have a 13 pound give or take rifle, I'm not sure that little head can handle it. I haven't decided that I want to shoot of a tripod at this point, just thinking ahead in case I ever do.

Amanda, what can you tell me about the larger tripod. The promaster is a little smaller than I was looking for. Is anyone on CWT using this tripod that can chime in here? Both of these use a twistlock system to secure the legs, how reliable is this and does it require a bunch of hand pressure? I have had better luck with the legs that have a lever or cam system. Also, where is the Calumet made, can you get parts for it? I cannot find much in the way of reviews on it? There must be a reason you chose to stock this paticular one. Coues7, that looks like a great little tripod, but relies more on the center post for height than I am looking for, definitely looks like a great go-to tripod for someone that backpacks and every ounce counts. I am definitely looking for some very specific things in a tripod, I am not new to this game, I currently have a Bogen and a tall Outdoorsman tripod. I am looking for something under 4 pounds. Thank you everyone for responding.
