AZ GROUND POUNDERS OCTOBER COUES BUCKS
pwrguy replied to AZ Ground Pounders's topic in AZ Ground Pounders Outfitters Blog
Great looking deer!! -
I 100% agree, support the litte guys that have helpful user friendly employees, most of the time you will find the experience worth a couple extra bucks.

I'm not looking for perfection, I know that doesn't exist. The reason I question the head is the stated 11 pound weight capacity. I am not in the market for the head right now anyway, I am happy with the pistol grip I am using for my glass. I am just looking for for honest opinions. Thanks.

The Calumet sounds like a great setup except for the twistlock. I like the way it collapses neatly. Hunthard, I have a 13 pound give or take rifle, I'm not sure that little head can handle it. I haven't decided that I want to shoot of a tripod at this point, just thinking ahead in case I ever do.

Amanda, what can you tell me about the larger tripod. The promaster is a little smaller than I was looking for. Is anyone on CWT using this tripod that can chime in here? Both of these use a twistlock system to secure the legs, how reliable is this and does it require a bunch of hand pressure? I have had better luck with the legs that have a lever or cam system. Also, where is the Calumet made, can you get parts for it? I cannot find much in the way of reviews on it? There must be a reason you chose to stock this paticular one. Coues7, that looks like a great little tripod, but relies more on the center post for height than I am looking for, definitely looks like a great go-to tripod for someone that backpacks and every ounce counts. I am definitely looking for some very specific things in a tripod, I am not new to this game, I currently have a Bogen and a tall Outdoorsman tripod. I am looking for something under 4 pounds. Thank you everyone for responding.

Yep...I'm definitely hunting with old guy's. Since most of them are around my age I must be one too. How about when ibuprofen is an essential part of your daily supplies in your backpack.

I have ruined the case that came with my Swarovski bino's. Does anyone have a good suggestion for a durable case to buy to put them in?
-
That looks like a fantastic deer. Good luck!!
-
I am so jealous, I have been wanting to do that for years. Congrats man!!!
-
Good luck trying to find a decent priced one right now Adam. While you are looking keep and eye out for a left handed Remington .308 with stainless action. I don't care what barrell.

That is fantastic!!

+1 to everything CEI said. That being said, my preference would be a projectile that is capable of punching through no matter the placement.
-
+1 I love that 3X4 his tines are nice and long, someone needs to cull that freak as well.

I got a pleasant surprise when I checked my trail cam today in an area that I have never seen a large WT in. Hopefully I can find him in 2 weeks. He is in tough country to glass though, and he only showed up one time in the middle of the night on my camera. I wish I had some other pictures, but this is all I got. It looks as though he has split G2s on both sides but I can't be sure. What do you think?

LOL probably right. I'll let you know in 3 weeks

Sendero Stock Trigger vs Timney vs Shilen
pwrguy replied to rossislider's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
I had the shillen put in my new custom because the gunsmith suggested it. I have been very happy with it so far. -
+1 I have been eyeing that pack.
-
That's exactly what I thought. A special deer no matter how he tapes.
-
Great job Kyle, must be one of those lazy bucks that didn't feel like rubbing off his velvet yet. He probably would have got around to it later if he hadn't met Kyle

I am still looking for some H1000, if anybody sees any let me know. I will be in Tucson Sunday and possibly Monday or Tuesday, also I sometimes go to the Phoenix area. Thanks.
-
I found some up here in Payson at Rim Country Guns. I am good for now, thanks for the responses.
-
Good luck...that is one dandy of a late season bull.

Good point, I actually had a rifle I had to take to a gunsmith and have the chamber polished because it was causing the bolt to stick, even on new unfired cases. When I got the rifle back I never had a problem.
