Work and personal stuff had kept me pretty busy this season. I finally got out this weekend to start looking for an October deer. I glassed this deer bedded at 6:30 and he got up and started feeding about 15 mins later. I hope to find a bunch more but...it's a start.

the buck was at 700 to 800 yards, and the picture was taken with a point and shoot camera through my Swarovski 15X56 SLC. I would love to get a better set up for picture taking but I just can't afford it right now.

That thing is crazy. What a buck!!!!

I'm certainly no expert but I would say a lot closer to 80 then 90

I know several people that have done it. The odds are definitely tough. I have tried to get a shot at long range several times and have not been able to pull it off. They are constantly moving, and it just takes the right set up to make it happen. I will say that any excuse to be out hunting is a good one

Hunting small game while a big hunt is in progress?
pwrguy replied to down2hunt's topic in The Campfire
I remember year's ago getting hassled by the G&F just driving in an area that had an elk hunt going on with a rifle beside me in the seat. I remember thinking at the time that if I was going to poach an elk I sure as h%& would not be doing it during an elk hunt. -
Great bucks, congrats. I have been on a couple of cool antelope hunts but never one with 3 tags, thats great!!!

Alaska Dall Sheep 2013. Tok Managment Unit Draw Permit

Great job Mike and Charlie -
After properly mounting the scope I use Vipers method. Works every time, no need for half a box of ammo or a laser. I usually do it at the range with a starting point of 30-50 yards. With a good quality scope you should be near the center of the target by the 3rd or 4th shot at 100 yards or so.

Sold I have a Kolpin gun boot for sale. I don't want to mess with shipping so this will be face to face only in Payson. The whole setup with everything in the pictures $30.00. Sold

Sold I have some baseboard heaters that I removed from a house. They are older but were all in working order when removed. They also come with some line voltage thermostats. There are (4) line voltage stats, (2) 6 foot heaters (1) 4 foot heater and (1) 2 foot heater. I am asking $30.00 for everything, just trying to clear some space around the old homestead. PM me if interested.

Caribou hunting above fairbanks is high on my list as well. I had considered it for this year but other things had to take priority. Be prepared to shell out some bucks on the flyout portion of the trip, they are real proud of their planes and fuel up in that part of the world.

That is a fantastic mount. Congrats to Ernie.

Yes, I have too, but anything I'm going to spend that kind of dollars on needs to be exactly what I'm looking for. Unfortunately, I don't think they even have that Savage in left hand.

Nice setup. Looks like you have done all the work and have everything ready to travel. I would be seriously iterested if the bolt was on the other side. Good luck with the sale!!!

brass and major speed issues
pwrguy replied to lionhunter's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
Yep, specially if you are shooting loads at the top end of the powder charge. Be carefull. I wouldn't have expected that huge of a velocity change though. -
I'll trade for H1000

Scooter, if you are the bivy/backpack style of hunter, just make sure you have at least the 6 game bags as stated previously. Depending on how far in you are, stay with your elk and get it skinned out, taken apart and hung somewhere as shady as you can find. Once you have this done you can begin your pack out and possibly see if you can locate some help. That time of year if you take care of your meat you should have a little time to get it out. Depending on how far in you are, you might consider boning out the entire thing and not hauling any bone out. If you can post to this site, you could probably locate someone to help fairly quickly, there are a lot of people in Gila county on CWT. Also, like previously stated, you need to be somewhat prepared for any kind of weater, at least have some extra stuff in your truck that you can get back to and grab if you need it. Good luck!!!

I talked to him a couple of months ago, he had gone to holbrook, but still had the same phone number. He is not processing any more. There are several other good processors here in Payson that are not members. PM me if you want some contact info.

I like the pelican case. I have taken to using it everywhere including on my quad. They are tough and waterproof.
