I love the fighting elk, what a great shot.

Shot placement, range and bullet construction/velocity alway's enter into the picture. I have seen a water buffalo put down with a 22LR, but I wouldn't make that my first choice. Just sayin.....

+1 You are at the bottom end of the scale there. At some point, you are going to have to limit your range somewhere far below a larger caliber to be fair to the deer. No matter how accurate you are, you will quickly run out of energy with that light bullet. That being said, the best rifle to use is the one you are deadly with

Cool pics man, keep em coming

sorry to hear that Mike. Problem is you can be as carefull as you can be, but can't control the other guy. -
Whadaya me "you can share"...are you holdin out on the good stuff man?

you have to have consistent brass for consistent groups. Once fired is usually the best bet, although a lot of guys full length size and swear by it. I would start with 100 pieces of quality brass and fire form them. Also, you might try some of the other powders out there, although I have used 4831 extensively in 7mm and .300 and had pretty good luck with it. Another thing that could be an issue is the scope and the mounting system for the scope. Maybe 308 nut can give you some idea's if you have any suspicions about that. I don't know what your personal experiences are, there are so many pieces that need to fit together for a good system. There might be other bullets that would fly better with your particular twist etc. Velocity is over rated when it comes to accuracy. I had a custom 300WM for a while and it seemed to like 180-200 grain bullets. Good luck!!

This should be a good year up here. Lots of food and water. Like everyone else said, stay away from the roads and be prepared to hunt the whole hunt. A lot of the hunters head home after the weekend. Hiking into wilderness areas can be productive on those crowded opening weekends. Good luck

Well....I answered my own question. There is still a barricade across the road, although it looks like plenty of people have been driving around it. I don't need a trout bad enough to risk the ticket. We went to Willow instead, did OK but not great, the fish were all very small.

I was thinking about taking a little trip up and do som fishing. Does anyone know if the road to Bear Canyon Lake is open. Has anyone fished any of the lakes in that area recently..within the last couple of weeks, and had any luck, if so what was working.

Brian, this is from the page from that URL. note the "all but" not sure what to make of it, sound like people have been driving around the barrier In the high country, all but three lakes – Lee Valley, Bear Canyon and Knoll – are now accessible. That’s the good news. Riggs Flat in the Pinaleno Mountains is not open yet either. That’s to be expected. The stores and boat rentals at both Big Lake and Woods Canyon are open. That’s also good news. The bad news is that it appears Carnero, Crescent and Lee Valley suffered fish kills; price to pay for such excellent snow pack. We’ll get them stocked soon.

I saw no mention of him being an outfitter or outdoorsman? Anybody know any more about this guy? Sad regardless of what he was doing down there.

I sent them a nice long letter. I am sick of this crap. Why do they even keep using the word immigration to describe these criminals? This is not a race issue, we can't even afford to take care of the people that are already here, if they leave this border open our already piss pour economy is going to be on par with Mexico.

95-100 gross. Very nice, wouldn't have to think twice with a bow.

You coming to the grand opening Rex? Drag that 803 nut with you. I'm definitely going to check things out. I don't think 803 nut is gonna make the trip from Anchorage though

This subject has been covered before..many times. I had a remington 700 ADL in .308 set up for my son when he was 9. I just cut the factory stock down to his size. I also opted to have a muzzle brake installed, although, I'm not sure if this was a great idea or not. At that age, I think he had more fear of the noise than the recoil. Anyway...when he turned 14 or so I just purchased an un-cut stock for next to nothing online and he was good to go. He is 19 and still using the same rifle. He has made several one shot clean kills with it in excess of 300 yards, including an elk and WT at age 10. It looks like a cousin may get her first opportunity with it this year with a Jr. cow tag, not sure what stock she will use though, we'll have to see how it fits her.
