the speedmaster is a great rifle, as long as it is the tube magazine. if you want a lever gun, look at the henry. really well built, not too expensive, very accurate. nice little rifles. don't have any experience with the brouwings. best bet is to buy em all and then decide. Lark.

i guess we're back to just 49 states now. aparantly obama and his commie buddies think Arizona ain't one of em anymore. heck, they just as well have official an official federal boycott of the state. http://www.azcentral.com/news/election/aze...reme-court.html the paper yesterday said that his lacky holder was going to try to overturn 1070 too. just as well give us back to mexico. maybe that's his plan. that or let us just be taken over by illegals, give me the vote, and then maybe he can carry Az next election. whatever kinda crap this is, this is bull. you guys remember this stuff. this is gonna get real bad. Lark.

i've read that the pinaleno mountains (mt graham) has the densest black bear population per square mile on planet earth. safford, thatcher and pima are literally next to the foothills of the mountain. just a few miles from excellent bear country. to the north you have the gilas, the nantac, the mogollon rim, eagle creek, etc, that are literal bear factories in their own right. bears are nomads that take off and travel just for the heck of it. you're liabel to see one anywhere. younger male bears are as curious as any animal there is. they're gonna travel. if the azgfd is gonna kill every male bear that wanders through town, they best get some guys lined up to artificially insemenate the sows, because they're gonna kill a lotta bears. when was the last time anyone was attacked by a bear in Az? last one i remember was in '78 by point of pines. a campground bear got a guy in his tent. a black bear is the biggest chicken in the woods. if public safety was their reason, then they need to study bears a little more. the bears that spook me are the "welfare" bears that hang out around campgrounds and black river. the ones that are used to folks getting scared and running away and leaving their ice chest or fish stringer for the bear. the ones they usually catch and haul off and release somewhere else. after this little bear was tranquilized, in a cage and at cluff ranch, he wasn't any kind of a threat to anyone. that doesn't wash. there are dozens of bears that cross the gila valley every summer. it's a real common thing. some get seen, a lot don't. some friends were fishing at san carlos a couple years ago and in one day saw 4 different bears swimming across the lake. one day. bears travel. they can smell stuff for over 20 miles and when they get to it, they smell something else, and so on. killing them all is a dang stupid thing. there are a lot better ways to handle it. boycotts have gone too far now

the deal about the u of a boycott. that was funny. the lilith fair gettin' cancelled ain't funny. i know how much you were lookin' forward to it. it ain't for me, but i ain't never been one to judge alternative lifestyles like guys goin' to the lilith fair or guys that shoot 7mm/08s and "other" stuff. you know me, live and let live. peace out. Lark. -
ok, now i'm pissed. they cancelled the lilith fair because of 1070. they have gone too far. when is it gonna end? i mean i never go, but i know that guys like bullwidgeon, casey, chef and folks that shoot 7mm/08's were really looking forward to it. this just ain't right. Lark.

that's hilarious. just sent it to all my u of a loser friends. Lark. -
this was in the white mt paper. read it and think about it. puts a little more emphasis on what's going on in Az. if you think we need illegals for cheap labor, then he died so you can get your grass mowed and drywall hung cheaper. if you hire or use illegals in anyway, you're a part of the problem. if you think it's a humanitarian deal, then this good man died so you can feel good about letting folks break the law by coming here. if that's your slant, then you're part of the problem. whatever reason anyone has for rationalizing the illegal alien problem, this man died for your selfish assed reasons. also when you read the article think about what the Krentz family, and dozens more just like them, have contributed to this state with hard work and friendship. next time you want to cuss a cattleman or a farmer or logger or anyone who makes their living from the land, think about what they've gone through for generations to hold on to what they've paid for. and think about what everyone along the border, and in this state in general, is sacrificing so folks from another country can come here and rape our system and our "rich culture" for whatever they can, when it is against-the-law. Arizona lost a good man here. for no good reason. makes me sick to see politicians try to get votes off his death. where were they before he died? personally, i thought the letter was pretty smart. what he said was that if they were serious about boycotting Az that he would help them quit buying Az produced power. he never threatened to cut off the juice. i worked in the power industry for over 30 years. a lot of the power produced in Az goes to californication. cal utilities are major partners in about every generating facility and transmission line in Az or have very long contracts to buy power from the plants they aren't part owners of. the majority of the power from palo verde goes west. california is so screwed up that they can't get a permit to build a power plant for anything. too many treehuggers that stop it. so they go to nevada, utah or Az. and either buy the power or are partners in the plants themselves. they have to get power somewhere and the treehuggers and other libs are ok with it as long as it's produced somewhere else. the corporation commission has input in the rates power companies charge their residential and other small customers. big commercial customers all negotiate their own contracts and are all charged different rates. the bigger ya are, the less ya pay for a megawatt. best thing we can do is not go to disneyland or san diego or sea world or 6 flags and do as little business in other areas as possible with california. denver needs the same treatment. new mexico will be next, but they really need our business, so they might not do much more than whine real loud. i still maintain richardson doesn't like the law because of the increased illegal activity our new law will cause new mex. screw em. we'll be fine. the money we save not taking care of illegals will be 10x what these boycotts might do. oh yeah, screw phil gordon too. what a stupid little chump screw obama too. can't believe he's lined up with other countries against a state in the "United States of America". i was raised in the gila valley. this time of year bear sightings can be an almost daily occurance. literally. i remember one day in pima there were 4 different bears running around town. you see tracks all over the place in the summer. i mean everywhere. you have the gilas and then the nantac rim to the north and the pinalenos to the south. both places are bear factories and bears like to travel around and see the country. they look across the valley and think "that mountian looks cool" and take off. i know i've seen at least a dozen bears within a mile of the city limits of pima and in town. just pima. we'd see em all the time on the farm. see em in town. i saw one early in the morning while i was getting ready to go to work, and i lived on main street next to the grocery store at the time. it's a real common thing. safford and thatcher have all kindsa sightings every year too. the game warden that killed this thing is a jackass and whoever wrote the directive is an even bigger jackass. either haul em off or leave em alone and let em wander off on their own. there is no good reason to just arbitrarily kill a bear because it's a "male". this is bull and the next time i get to talk to a game warden, he's getting an ear full. Lark.

easy? usually they can't wait to plaster somebodies name all over the place. who does this joker know? all they hafta do is say "alledged". heck, it might be my neighbor. this is bs. they need to get this guys name out there. embarrass him a little. "an individual" doesn't say much, especially given the gravity of the situation. splatter his name around. Lark.

one of the most effective forms of trap bait is a turd. many a coyote and bobcat has fallen to anothers feces. find an ant bed, set your trap, put a turd on top of it. works real well. there are lotsa ways to bait a trap and a turd is one of the better ones. generally you don't bait traps with meat. in fact it's illegal to have a trap close to meat. and it usually isn't very effective either. you usually use scent. really smelly junk ya make outta dead fish and other stuff and you usually always put urine and feces in it. these animals have a smeller that is so advanced it's amazing. i don't know about jaguars, but i'd imagine they'd have habits similar to a lion. if you're in country that has lions you can find scratches in most saddles. it's how they communicate. they wander through to see who is in the country. if you find a place that is frequented by lions like that, you can set a trap there and if ya know what you're doing, probably catch one. i'm sure that is what these guys were doing. Lark.

hey guys, don't jump to conclusions. it coulda been self defense or he really needed the meat. innocent until proven guilty, remember? then you can kill him. Lark.

i tend to be when folks call me a liar and about every other derogatory term they can think of. all because i "can" shoot and ain't in the"community". if you take notice, you won't find where i ever said you were a liar or questioned your integrity. and good on ya for your military service. but that doesn't mean i can't shoot and don't have the training, experience, education and equipment to get it done. and at real long ranges. and i don't have a big fat barrel on my .300. guess maybe it's just an anomoly. but, i'll just keep on huntin'. all over the country. for anything i want to. and when i need to, shoot long distances. and just keep being lucky and having wet dreams. and reading, what was it, soldier of fortune? is that what you accused me of? i'm not too familiar with it. did used to work with a guy that carried em in his pocket all the time. maybe he was in the community once too. maybe you know him. there's a reason i have a 20 foot loading bench with 3 presses, 3 different throws, a file cabinet literally full of dies and more powder, brass, primers and bullets than a lot of the stores in this town. i shoot a lot. and i've become fairly adept at it. when this thread started a guy had a question about whether or not you had to have a real heavy rifle to shoot a long ways with. i told him i had a pretty good rifle and it wasn't very heavy and i could shoot it, real well. then you and some other guys chimed in and flat called me a liar. but guess what, i can still shoot. made several spectacular shots in just the past 2 weeks. not at targets either. actual living things. well, they were. until i killed em. but then again, it coulda just been another wet dream. i'll admit this much, i am fairly new to serious long range shooting. only been serious about this stuff for 3 or 4 years. i've only had my new/rebuilt rifle for less than a year. spent lotsa time at the reloading bench and at the range with my sons and their rigs and that's where i got interested. when i saw it was a lot of fun. in the past 3 years, the closest i've killed a deer, in Az anyway, was 535 yards. and that was just with a skinny barrelled .264 and didn't even have a range finder with me. ranged it the next day just to see how far it was. just guessed on where to aim and it worked. lucky i'm sure. another was 635 and last year was 565. and the 635 buck was running. no bs. also shot a bull at 730 and one at 900 in the past 2 years. these 2 deer and elk were shot with real serious long range rifles tho, with all the auxiliary equipment needed. i don't think any of those shots were accidents. even tho i'm just a novice to long range, i ain't no kid when it comes to shooting. and i'm pretty good at getting the most out of a rifle. and even with eyes that don't work like they used to, artificial joints, kevlar mesh and arthritis i can still get things done. ghost, your statement about the shooter having to improve is a good one and if folks will read back, i think i've said that several times in this excercise. the most critical part of any shooting situation is the trigger finger and who it's connected to. doesn't matter how much money you've spent, how fancy your rig is or what brand names you have, if you don't know what you're doing, it doesn't matter. as far as how many sniper shootings there have been, i have no clue and really don't care. just looking for a reaction. and got it. 308, you got it. when they get the ferry fixed and my friend gets his things together i'll be up. anchorage ain't too big o' place. we gotta rebuild his place in yak. bad renters. place is worse than a catbox. and put up a garage for the boat, truck and quads. i think i'll head back to the mountains again in the morning. my buddy still has a tag and the fish are still bitin'. being a 40+ year member of the "turkey hunting community", i thought having to miss the first weekend of the season to go to a funeral was a bad thing. this was the first time i got to hunt turkeys during the week, when the rest of the "turkey hunting community" was at work. dang, it is plum cool to have the woods to yourself. got some nice toms. caught a buncha cold water trout. (i'm a lifetime member of the fishing community too). by the way, big lake and crescent are plum full. first time in about 20 years they've been to the highwater mark. didn't try crescent. don't know about a winter kill or not. but we had our way with em at big lake. didn't try carnero either, but did chase a big tom and buncha hens to it somewhere around it. with all the snow and the long winter it seems to have either pushed the strut back later or lengthened it some. turkeys seemed to be still bunched up fairly well and calling a fair amount. sorta windy tho and it hampered calling efforts some. saw more deer in a week than i've seen in the last 10 years in unit 1. then i heard the azgfd ended the archery deer draw for that unit? what the heck for? it "was" good to see all them deer. not for much longer. saw thousands of elk. saw a couple that still had antlers and bunch that were in various stages of growing. drove down a 2 tracker one day, then again the next day, and there was a 4 point shed laying in the road. saw a buncha spikes that still had antlers. anyway, it was a great time. melting snow, lotsa water, deep mud. you could actually watch the country green up. i think it's gonna be a banner year for all animals in the mountains. well, if road bombers don't wound every small buck this fall anyway. but there are gonna be some big antlers and a helluva a fawn, calf and chick crop. really had a tremendous time. headed back again this week. ya'll best take advantage of good fishin'. when you guys are old you're gonna tell stories about "back in ot 10". Lark.

it is a welcome thing, whatever the case. and i was so excited about the turkeys, fish, elk and huge bunches o' deer, shootin' a coyote, water, etc., i forgot to even mention all the fun i had with my boys and big john and willy, 2 o' my best friends o' all time. ya best get up there and partake. Lark.
