well fellers, guess what? both the stinkin' border patrol and sherrif joe's bunch told me to go to heck. neither one is interested. in fact, the mcso said they might hafta come and arrest me now, because i told em i wasn't ridin' anymore without packin' a gun. the mcso already knew about the camp and said it was a felony for em to do anything about it. ain't it a felony to cross the border illegally? why is it a felony for cops to arrest felons? said because i couldn't provide positive ID, they couldn't do anything. heck, if a guy can pull a citizens arrest on the freeway, shouldn't a cop be able to arrest felons? man, i am confused. more than usuall, too. guess i shoulda let em drag me off the horse so's i could make a positive ID. dang, i'm pissed off right now. i told the deppity that it wasn't against the law for me to pack a gun, and he had to agree to that. one thing about Az., we have the best gun packin' laws in the country. like whitehunter says, be vigilant. maybe we need to be vigilante, too. this is really disheartening. i struggled with even callin' the authorities, because i figgerd i'd end up bein' the bad guy. guess i was right. why do we even have cops? guess i'll hafta stick to the roads now, so i don't hafta worry about gettin' assaulted by felons that it's againt the law for cops to arrest. ya don't hafta go huntin' to have a run in with "illegal aliens". i've been exercising my horse to get him legged up before deer season. last night i rode right into a whole camp of em. right in the middle o' town. looked as if they were waitin' for a coyote to haul em into the city. they real aggressive and acted like they wanted to get me off the caballo. i usually always pack a pistol in my saddle bag. no matter where i'm at. i'm glad i didn't have it last night because today i'd be on the national news. i called the BP and they said they were gonna go roust em out. we'll see. i ain't ridin' my horse any more, less'n i take a gun. it was a real disgusting thing all around. they were camped out within 50 yards of a real nice subdivision. and there were several of em with no pants on doin' some pretty gross things when i rode into the mess. a couple of em got big sticks and acted like they wanted to get me off the horse real bad. he mighta been the coyote. a couple others were in the brush trying to flank me. anyway, if i'da had a gun it woulda been one ugly mess because they were dang sure trying to get me in a corner. what really got me to thinking hard was just last sunday my daughter rode right through the exact same place, by herself. i used to really feel sorry for the plight of the folks that come this away. not any more. last night was a little too spooky. if this happens again we'll see how they deal with my ol' 1100 remington quail gun. this is BS of the highest order. Lark.

badgers? we don' need no stinkin' badgers!!! sorry, i couldn't help myself. i called in a badger once with a vermin call. i've seen many over the years. even chased one down and killed it with a rock once. used to have heck with em on my ol' man's farm. got a tractor stuck in a cotton field in a badger hole once. interesting little critters for sure. not near as dangerous as folks would have ya believe. they can outdig a backhoe if they're scared. as far as brain tanning, it takes a lot of work after it's cured. you can't just tan it and leave it at that. takes hours of working to soften the hide. did you do it hair on or off? brain tan is mainly for hair off. when i was a kid i helped my dad make deer hide riatas. it was a lotta work de-hairing the hides, tanning and softening them and then cutting them into strips and braiding it. Lark.

ok, i'll bite. how much is it? Lark.

my first deer rifle was an old .30/30. still have it. and i hated it when i was a kid because it bucked like a government mule. i traded for a mohawk .243 when my oldest boy started hunting. cut the stock off to fit him and he shot it until he grew into a man's gun, a .270. the only real rifle made. all three of my boys started out with the same rifle. now that they outgrew it, i found an uncut stock for it and now use it myself. great little horseback rifle. i was 7 the first time i saw him shoot a buck. shot a coues buck with his bow and later killed a bobcat with the same arrow. while he still had the dead buck on his shoulders. i started going with my ol' man seriously when i was about 8. went with him a lot before that, but when i was about 8 i'd go for all day and pack the water and food. you can't start em too young. all my boys have been hunting small game since they could shoot and fishing since they could hold a pole. bought a little singleshot .410 and chipmunk .22 when my oldest son was old enough and all 3 used them until they outgrew em. a .243 is about perfect for a kid to start with. hot enough for any deer and you can get one light enough and short enough that a kid can use it and the recoil is quite mild. also, ammo is real cheap and readily available. you really can't go wrong, as long as you go. Lark.

not much need to crimp for bolt action ammo. something that has violent recoil may require it. the ammo in the magazine can get the bullets stuffed back into the case from the shells smashing around in the magazine during recoil. i used to have a little trouble with my .264 doing that. but it was always a shell that had been in the magazine for a lot of shots. some pistol ammo needs crimped. but an '06 in a bolt action should be fine without it. you very seldom even see a crimp die for rifle ammo. Lark.

how much crap are they gonna take before they lock this phsyco up? good heck, she has 3 or 4 felonies pending right now. maybe after she kills somebody they'll finally keep her in the pokie. Lark. http://www.eacourier.com/articles/2005/10/...news/news02.txt

ain't the half moon the club down the road from tiffany's? or am i thinkin' o the prarie moon in winslow? dang, it's rough gettin' old. worst thing is rememberin' bein' young. you keep up on them banjo lessons casey. maybe your new girl can play the jug to provide a little rythm. Lark.

it shouldn't be about the "trophy". it oughta be about havin' a good time in the sticks with friends and family. if all a guy wants to do is put his tag on big stuff, without hunting, then get after them high fences. when i was kid i spent a lotta time horseback tryin' to catch wild cattle in some horrible country. they're harder to hunt than some pen raised elk with a pedigree and a tag in it's ear. raise an elk in a confined area and it's just a cow with antlers. personally, i like to hunt. me, my ol' rifle, maybe one o' my boys or my ol' man or a good friend and some rotten rough country where a good buck might be hidin'. as long as i get to track one down, jump him up and shoot him, i don't much care what his antlers look like. i won't go as far as condemn folks for high fencin', but i can't condone it. they ain't wild animals. Lark.

the diamond bar is mostly blm and state gringo land. part of the fishook wilderness is on it. the guy who owns it is my cousin. he told me he's found several places where the rez fence has been cut and there were tire tracks going from the rez into the wilderness. he assumed to retrieve elk. it's just another desert place where the elk have taken over. Lark.

only lead i unleashed on the diamond bar last year was 8 shot. Lark.

i think sci even recognizes reproduced racks too. they also recognize uso as the good guys and that pretty much says it all too me. those are nice bulls. huge bulls. but they're pen raised and atrificial. with all the misgivings i have with b&c and their rich boy country club attitude, they're way above sci in integrity. in other words they don't lie, cheat and steal as much as sci. to be an official sci scorer it takes a 1 hour class at an sci convention. whatever, big bulls, but they just as well be made outta plastic resin, because they're phony. Lark.

glad you found a couple dead ones. i'm sick o' kickin' em outta my way in deer season. elk and them stinkin' stupid sheep. did you show em to Chris? he'll be happy to know there are a couple less elk. the azgfd really needs to do something about elk in the desert. but that is a heck of a bull. Lark.

a two tracker, heck, a couple years ago some guys pitched a camp in the middle of the main road where we were pig hunting. i mean a busy, bladed, county maintained road with signs and culverts and all o' that stuff. had the tent pegged dead center in the road and a big ol' rock ring for their fire. they got all distressed when the back bumper o' my pickup accidently hooked one o' tent awning ropes and i accidently drug their tent about 50 feet down the road. i woulda drug it further but the dang thing hung up on the VW bus they had parked in the road using as a kitchen. it was sorta funny cuz there was a guy in it for a few yards, before he could jump out. this is a true story too. they got all yanked off and made some threats then the rancher came by and ran em the heck off. oh yeah, did i mention that where it was also happened to be where the road crossed private property? some folks are just born stupid and never get any better. as far as campin' in elk country, heck, elk are everwhere. move a half mile and they'll be there. but it is stupid to drive back in the middle of a good place and set up quarters. but ya see it all the time. probly just some flatlanders out for the weekend. Lark.
