i've been off deer huntin' in new mex. Lark.

when i first read this i thought maybe it was a celebrity fist fight between me an 308 nuts and i was afraid i either missed it or couldn't remember it. anybody who thinks there is any cartridge that is even in the same universe as a .270 is seriously deficient in the brain department. the .270 is the rifle of the Gods. they shoot perfectly flat out to infinity. and that's a looooong ways. they are not affected by the wind, altitude, temprature, humidity or gravity. the only reason there are even all them other guns to start with is because there are so many igernut people. to me using a word like harvest means you're trying to not offend some hugger. but if you wanna be some pc nerd, go ahead, as long as you still hunt and are responsible in doing so. i do get sick of terms like whack and stack, kill and grill, or any other stupid sounding term that doesn't do anything but sound like a moron said it. but as long as they are a responsible hunting moron, i can live with it too. kill doesn't bother me and if does bother someone they are probably the kinda guy i don't wanna hunt with. but as long as "killing" something don't bother em, i can live with that too. when you harvest and ear of corn or a mater, you kill it. i spent a lotta years "harvesting" crops and i don't ever remember using the term harvest even then. we picked it or cut it. cotton, corn, barley, alfalfa, wheat, alla them things. i never remember hearing any ol' farmer say he harvested anything. so pretty much, use whatever word you want, as long as you hunt correctly. it might mean you are little wierd and goofy and probably have some real issues with a lotta things, but that's ok, as long as you hunt. pansy wierdos. Lark.

too bad it seems like a lotta times it takes a near death experience to slep us back to reality, but then again it's a good thing it happens sometimes too. glad you're on the mend and glad i got to read your words. Lark.

i have a lotta .264 esperience, but don't own nor have shot a 6.5/284. read a lot about em. they are very accurate. so is the .264. most important thing is to make sure your barrel is twisted correctly for the bullet you want to shoot. and conventional twists don't really apply to bullets like bergers. in the past barrel twist has always been based on bullet weight. but a lot of bullets that are designed for high BC, like the bergers, are real long for their weight and require a faster twist than an equal weight bullet that is designed different. i just shoot 100's out of my .264 because i like the hotrod speed they have and i'm not real intersted in shooting it 1000 yards. but i did kill a muley with it at almost 600 a few years ago. took a couple shots to get the range, but i got him. the advantage of the 6.5/284 is in shooting high BC bullets at moderate velocities and hitting with very precise accuracy at real long ranges. you can do the same thing with the .264. my son has a sendero .264 that he has a done a lot of work to and has a calibrated zeiss scope for it and he routinely makes shots at half a mile with it with sciroccos. they both will do the same thing, the .264 just does it with a couple hundred more fps. barrel twist is the secret and the .264 diameter is very twist sensitive and once you decide on where to twist it, you are pretty much tied to that bullet. i got a pistol scope from TAM to put on my 629 smith. when i bought it they guy gave me a mount and a set of ring for it so i assumed it was drilled and tapped. well, it ain't. needs 3 holes drilled and tapped on the top strap. anyone know a good gunsmith that i can take it to that does a good job, won't take a month and won't charge a fortune? my last experience with a real simple job didn't work out real well. work was fine, but it took forever and was real expensive. Lark.

can ya vote more than once on the poll? i see 7 voted no. was wonderin' if rinkydinky voted 7 times? oh and yes rinkydinky. guys will hire a houndman just because they want to spend extra money. i'm sure that's the reason. it makes the most sense of your options. at least the most sense i can make of your horrible command of written english. were you homeschooled? yeah, it's gotta be that they wanna spend more money. that or maybe it's because they would really like to shoot a bear and think it would be fun, sporting, legal and follow the accepted rules of fair chase. Lark.

they kill elk all the time with a bow. ain't it at least as good as a bow? the 6.5x284 is one round that really interests me. Bill, i've shot a .264 mag for about 40 years and killed a lotta elk and deer and all kindsa stuff with one of the several i own. so ain't everbody ignores that bore. my youngest son killed a 400 bull with his sendero last year with a scirocco at around 400. most all mine were with 129 gr hornadys. i've always thought the .284 was a slick round. hotter than a .280 and it will work in a shorter action. to me, it is the original "short magnum". well, after the ones that newton invented around 1900 anyway. ain't nothin' really new. now they figgerd out that if you stick a big long .264 bullet in it with their super BC that they shoot with superb accuracy. which is what matters. they had a whole stack o' ammo for em at cabelas today. and with the new bullets that they make for this incredibly accurate round, you're good to go on any elk there is. i think a lotta guys shoot 165's out of em now. the bullet must be about 4 inches long and they hafta really twist the barrel fast, but they make some ridiculous long shots with em. on the show "long range pursuit" i've seen em drop elk in their tracks at 900 yards with one. remember this, all so called "knockdown" is, is numbers on a piece of paper. it means absolutely nothing. where you hit em does. when you hit an elk he don't go "ow, that bullet really had a lotta knockdown". they don't have a clue how fast it's going. Lark.

i'll do that. thanks for the info. Lark.

any o' you flatlanders have a good surefire summer cold cure? one that don't involve gettin' drunk or goin' to the dr anyway? man, i've had one for almost a week now and it ain't lettin' up. i ain't been around casey so i know it ain't swine flue. if any o' you other dudes on this site had blowed as much snot out as i have, your heads woulda collapsed by now. i sneezed goin' so hard down the road it blew that rear slider open on my crewcad and it made me fart so hard my head hit the roof o' the cab, drove my stetson down over my eyes and i ran through a crosswalk at a gradeschool at go home time. it's getting dangerous and i need a cure. besides, we need to have a good discussion on health issues. Lark.
