cactusjack replied to Azdesertrat's topic in Classified Ads
I have the exact same setup. I never shoot it. I can't bring myself to sell it. I pity the fool that tries to take it from me. -

tempting! Must be strong. -
I have an ARB version of this. I love it. I take it along with my yetis. Great for freezing waterbottles to put into the yeti. http://store.arbusa.com/fridges-c11.aspx

Is that a Savage 30? I can't see the model number on it to cross ref.

Hoghntr needs this

Exactly why I use multiple medium coolers. Stage them.

Buy 2 ritc 65s. Label them 1st and 2nd. Freeze everything and put dry ice in the one for the 2nd part of your trip. I do it with 3 yeti 50s.

cactusjack replied to BOWUNTR's topic in Classified Ads
not to hijack this thread, but are the Jim White tripod head covered by a patent? And if so, who holds it now? And if not, why cant we make our own replacement/repair parts? -

Kyle, great meeting you. Good luck on your hunt.

yep. I have been burned by this once. Never again.

my lion was killed on a coues hunt. She was 5 years old and weighed 90-100 lbs. She is a nice cat but not one of the beasts my cousin has killed. She was mighty tasty and made a nice rug. Id really like to shoot a big male, however I will fill another tag with a female given the opportunity. She resides in my bedroom next to the 1950's navy spy glass I got from my granddad.

If the sale on the heater falls through, I will take it

I have 2. I need to check the models but I would let you borrow one to test. I don't want to sell them. Pm sent.

I use a bipod on all my hunting rifles even when I have it set up for my Larue tripod mount. I like being able to leave my rifle resting on the bipod while glassing. Keeps it out of the dirt. I didn't put the bipod on for this picture.

Thanks, guys! I was looking at them on Midway yesterday, comparing prices to Cabela's. The more I look at it and research brands, the more I realize that Harris is the way to go. There was one on Midway that was half the price and had great reviews, but I keep leaning towards this and something I read by Cactus Jack in another post: "I try to follow the buy once, cry once rule." Pretty sure if I couch in terms of it being for the kids, my wife will understand. She wants to see them succeed! your wife might end up hating me.

I have the Leica Geovids10s with the range finder in them. They are great. Quick to give range as the spotter. I wouldnt ever buy them again. The electronics get old and outdated and out of warranty way before the glass does. Leica offers a 5 year warranty on them, Swaro with range finder I believe is a 2 year. A lot of money for something that will become obsolete or antiquated. The other problem I have with them is the button to activate the laser is on the left side of the binos. Thats not so good for right handed bow hunters. I have Shreck hands so I can extend my right hand finger over and hit the button. My 15s are Swaro hds. I just upgraded from a pair of Swaro 15s I bought 15 years ago.

backpacking tent and bag recommendations
cactusjack replied to Green Bullet's topic in Other Hunting Gear
Lesson I learned. Whatever you decide to go with, take it truck camping for a 2 to 3 night adventure. Take back up equipment in case you have some equipment malfunctions or surprises. I learned I hated my Nallo3gt because my feet touched the top of the tent when I was on my cot. I'm 6'5" and the angle of the roof bugged me. I sold it and bought one with a door on both ends. A Kaitum3gt. With the huge vestibule on one end and a small one on the other. We have slept 3 people in it. 2 in the tent part and one in the vestibule with the footprint down. We divide the poles, pegs and footprint and tent among us to pack in. Been stuck in both of them for a prob 36 to 48 hours. They performed perfectly. Since you put them up and take them down with the rainfly/outerwall attached, if you have to take it down in the rain, move and re setup, the inner tent stays dry. Not a normal occurrence, but a nice safety net. -
