21 hours ago, jdown said:You mean if you can’t shoot a bow, you won’t be able to archery hunt? What a crazy world.
I read a different tone in this response.
My problem with the way this whole thing unfolded is it was based on unsubstantiated allegations and anecdotal accounts of fraud, technological advancement restrictions only applyed unilaterally, initiated by biased groups trying to protect a doomed OTC deer hunt, targeting a group of people who already have many personal challenges.
Are there people who cheated the system? Probably. Does it need to be reworked? Sure.
Had it been worded as simply as the following, in my opinion the division in groups and anger by those who feel attacked would have been much less.
The current Crossbow and CHAMP permit programs have become unmanageable in their current form and the Commission is proposing a purge and restart with new requirements. Public comment period is from .. to .. . (Given facts, purposed new requirements and restrictions on equipment) -
Sorry to hurt your feeling. Not really. Low budget mentors are needed. You are Savage.
I hope you get your 50yrs, some of us didn't and didn't abuse the old system. Yet still we get painted by others as cheaters, cowards, ect. Some of us went into the military as able bodied and are now unable to pull and hold a bow.
Thank you for your future low budget mentorship.

Jdown, This crazy thing called the ADA let's people with disabilities still be able to get to the second floor, drive cars, access buildings, and even archery hunt. Hope you never need it.
-
Oh, you will, just with an airbow or crossbow.

I have seen a few shoot off the end. Its actually how you remove a Surefire carbon locked can. Turn the collar and shoot it off into a berm.
The reason I choose SilencerCo, Diligent Defense and Otter Creek Labs over other companies is for their customer service and warranty. Personal experience and customer experiences tell me they are the best. Others warranty their cans, but my experience with them have not been great..

The Zero tax stamp doesn't go into effect until Jan 1, 2026

have you used many steel cans? My first 30cal can was a titanium HTG Predator, they went out of business. It isnt very light, but I dont remember what it weighs.
My first 30cal steel cans weighed 24oz, a Specwar 762. My Silencerco Scyth weighs around 8.4oz with the mount. Diligent Defense Enticer STi with the mount weighs 9.3oz.
The old style uses baffles inside a tube. The new computer welded Ti baffle stack style is much lighter. The 3d printed ones have been a little bit heavier, but who knows what will happen.

My question...Will the proposed changes to the use of magnified and red dot optics pertain to the Air Bows as well? I didn't see them mentioned on the slide. Some states allow 1x scopes or unmagnified red dots on both crossbows and muzzleloaders due to eye focus issues that happen at old age.I do hope all the limits that are proposed for both Crossbow and CHAMP permit holders are likewise be applied to what is now considered traditional archery equipment. Here is the response I got when I asked about the comment period and to what weapons the rules in Article 2 would apply.Good morningThe public comment period will begin July 11, you'll be able to review the draft language at that time and provide any thoughts, comments or suggestions. At this time, within Article 2 the Department did not focus on optics for any other weapons other than crossbows. -
The zero tax stamp goes into effect on Jan 1, 2026. I know people that are going ahead and buying their suppressor and paying the 200, just to have their can for hunts this fall. A ultra lightweight 28 Nosler with a can might be worth an extra 200 to somebody...

Nomad Ti is a good one. For hunting cans i stay away from the Ls.
Starting with 1, I'd go with a 30cal can.
Diligent Defense Enticer STi is my favorite 30cal based on performance, weight, length, and how the company takes care of the customer.
Silencerco Scythe Ti is another favorite.
I treat suppressors like optics. Set up a rifle with a scope and a suppressor and dont move them.
Where do you live? Maybe meet up and try a few?

I think how it happened is awesome. A suit was filed to abolish the NFA based on it not being a tax. An argument can be made to abolish the tax on machine guns now too.

You misspelled suppressor

Just got the email approvals. So, 6/18/25 to 6/23/25. I guess 5 days isn't too bad.

Im against the sale of our public land HUNDO-Percent.
That being said, the map we are looking at is not from the bill, it is has been produced by conservation groups
Other conservation groups have calculated the amount and mapped the locations of BLM and Forest Service land that would be eligible for sale under Lee’s bill. It totals 120 million acres across 11 Western states.
This map visualizes the 250+ million acres of public lands eligible for sale in the Senate budget reconciliation package.
If they want to get rid of the land, give it to the states.
As to which party is responsible, my take is there is only 1 party, its Big Money. Both the Dems and Repubs take money from the same people. They don't care about us until its election time. They promise, blame, make excuses, ect, just so they can stay at the feeding trough. Picture if you will WWF Wrestling. The promotor decides what each side fights/stands for, and the battle rages on. Back stage they just share the loot. And plan the next battle.
Who are Sen Lee's donors? Developers I bet are some of the big ones.
The BLM, Forest Service, and National Parks lands are to be managed by the rules set up in the 1976 Federal Land Policy and Management Act (FLPMA), lots of words.............. Congress recognized the value of the public lands, declaring that these lands would remain in public ownership.
Land can be sold, but its not supposed to be unless it falls into one of 3 categories
- They are scattered, isolated tracts that are difficult or uneconomic to manage;
- They were acquired for a specific purpose and are no longer needed for that purpose; or
- Disposing of them will serve important public objectives, such as community expansion or economic development.
I dont trust Sen Lee to decide for us....

I certified 2 this morning, a scythe and a spectr9. The times have been erratic. Was down to 24 hours in some cases, but 2 to 3 days was common. Lately we have been 2 to 3 weeks, but still have some 2 to 3 days pop up. Typical government operation.

SilencerShop has many tax free, or a 200 dollar credit also. With the fast turn around that has been going on, you can go to a place with a Kiosk and you could be approved in under 2 weeks.
Get them in time for your deer and elk hunts
-
Don't pay more. Silencercentral sucks. They also were fighting to keep suppressors on the NFA.

I have a Salvo12. My brother in law has the JK ones and I know a couple guys with the RexSilentium Seg12s. I like the Salvo12s the best. Then the RexSilentium and dont like the JKs

4 hours ago, Flatlander said:Most importantly though, why would we make life harder for people who already have a harder life. So compound Bowhunters can hunt whatever unit they want?
No thanks. I’d rather a few people abuse the privilege than make life tougher than needed for those who actually have a problem. If that impacts my opportunity, I can live with that.
That is the most compassionate response and thank you.

That is what has been proposed. 30day comment period starts July 1

Bowhtr, I agree that things have long since passed the point of being primitive. Get ready for the flood of used Garmin sights, magnified lenses and clarifiers.
OTC deer tags are the next target.

I loved my Nallo3. Great tents.
Suppressors, NFA, and the BBB ?

Wearing earplugs is great. Everyone should wear them every time they shoot. Especially when using a brake. Everyone I talk to about ear plugs has a plan. Unfortunately putting them in is most often the part of the plan that is skipped when a quick shot or buck fever kicks in.
