    Parking Outside

Looking for shade ideas. It is hard to watch a $40,000 truck sit in the sun all summer. Up until a few years ago, I have always parked my truck in the garage. Due to getting a bigger truck and daughter moving back home after college and other daughter home for the summer, my truck is baking outside. Has anyone had a carport type structure built in their driveway? I know it will look horrible, but, I don't have a place for shade trees due to my driveway going to the property line. It is 4 vehicles wide and I thought of cutting out part of the drive to make room for trees. But, given the drought, I'm not sure if I need more to water and I don't want to end up with a cracked driveway. Any suggestions - No, I am not making wife and daughter park outside, their vehicles are nicer than mine.

Thanks for the input everyone. No decision made on which route I am going to take, just more to think about.
  5. Our yellow female recently passed. Are the parents English or American/Field labs? Thanks.

Thanks I will look into it. My old CJ 5 and 74 Blazer were way easier to fit in the garage and a fraction of the price.

    Parking Outside

56th street and the 101. I did not think about the permit issue. I thought since it was not attached to the house and it it was free standing, a permit would not be required. $2300 isn't too bad. I was hoping for around $1500. I am sure my neighbors will hate me. As will my wife. Anyone ever use a truck cover? Any recommendations?

    Hunting with glasses

I am starting to wear my glasses more now as well. Need them for distance and crispness and they are helpful for night driving. I take them off to glass and to shoot through a scope. The worst part of wearing them is how they make rough roads look - every rock and dip looks bigger then what they actually are. Hiking with glasses is also hard to get used to.....actually, getting used to being in my mid 50s is somewhat challenging. Lasik was not an option years ago when I looked into it for a stigmatism. Maybe things have changed.
  11. I have hunted this unit on and off since 1986. Over the years, I have seen lots of interesting stuff. And yes, the trash left in the desert is out of control. I am pretty sure all of us have seen this happening everywhere in our state......Not trash related - but one year in 36A, I came across some caves that had Ocotillo branches stacked up at the entrance. I figured illegals stacked them to hide from boarder patrol. Or they may have thought lions would get them while they slept. Regardless, I am glad we have access to some beautiful country and the amount of trash we pack out makes a difference.

Great pictures....If the average person knew how much trash most of us pack out they would be amazed.

    Backpacking gear, cheap, North Valley

Is that a water filter or stove in the picture? Looks like an MSR stove.
  15. Well, I'm not super old - but, I stared hunting big game in the late 70s. I remember a waiting period and there definitely were not bonus points. I also remember over the counter archery elk tags and left over whitetail tags for the December hunt.

Great looking pups. Are the parents English or American labs? We had to put our female down in September. The family needs another lab soon.

    Great hunt!
  22. No tags in Arizona for us this year. But it is always nice to look at my antelope from 2020 and my daughter’s from 2016. Considering last year was so dry, my goat on the left looks great.

    2nd DIY AK Moose Hunt

Definitely not ranting and congratulations on your ND bull. Sounds like a great hunt.........I think I may have written two or three sentences about trophy hunters and guides, I am not sure that is a rant. I wasn't really singling anyone specifically, except for the slobs that leave meat to rot and only take out the antlers. I have only been up there two times. And each time, hunters and guides where ticketed for numerous violations - one of which was wasting meat. I know this happens in every state. Of course not all hunters who shoot 60 inch moose are slobs and not all 60 inch moose have bad meat, but many of the big bulls have to be hung for multiple days. Most non residents do not have that kind of time to wait to butcher an animal. I guess I got more upset with meat rotting on pallets or the meat that was left in the field or meat that was hanging at camps in the rain; not the fact the bulls happen to be 60 plus inches. I know how hard it is to live off of the land for these folks and I am friends with them. So, yeah, seeing this anywhere is upsetting to me. And not being judged in a negative light by others that live there is important to me. Many locals do not get a moose every year. And yes, I did pass on some bulls because I knew the pack out would be very difficult. Everything worked out well for me. I knew I would raise an eyebrow or two by using the term trophy hunter. It was the wrong term. I have passed on many small bucks or bulls in AZ, waiting for a different animal. I suppose that makes me a trophy hunter. I am not sure how old my bull was, but the meat is incredible. Better than the last bull moose I harvested.
