Great write up! Your first day had more excitement than most have in a whole week of their hunt (I'm speaking of my hunts)...lol. And late season bull is well earned....especially your two! Congrats!!!

Another vote for Benelli. My son and I both shoot their M1 Super 90 and have no regrets. Not that I've shot a lot of different guns, so I'm not an expert by any means, but their anti-recoil system is what sold me. One thing that a gun dealer told me years ago when selecting a shotgun is that the gun has to "fit" the shooter. So he said do the following steps 1) While standing in a shooting position, and holding the gun, close your eyes. 2) Quickly pull the gun up to your shoulder like you're getting ready to shoot a flushing bird. 3) Now open your eyes and see how your eyes line up with the barrel, and if you are ready to quickly pull the trigger without making some sort of time consuming adjustments. If you do this with several guns, you will start to see a noticeable difference between each one, and what fits you best as the shooter. Good luck this season!

Nothing gets better than times like this. No doubt years of campfire stories beginning with "hey day...when are you going to shoot a bigger deer than me?"...lol As I looked at the pictures, one thing that came to mind is the fact that both father and son are wearing plenty of orange. You sir are doing a great job at teaching your son all the right things! Congrats to both!!!

My son and I had the early season whitetail hunt in 36B, and stayed the entire week at the La Siesta Campground in Arivaca. Steve owns the place, and runs a first class operation. He's a stand-up guy! You can pitch a tent for $15 per night, rent one of his trailers, or bring your own. He appreciates hunters! He has a large ice making machine, running water, washer/dryer, outdoor sink for washing dishes, nice clean full bathroom and a hot shower. All included in the $15. Plus there's electricity to charge phones, etc.

Just as that old buck took its last breath, it probably thanked you for putting it out of its misery....lol. Seriously, ugly or awesome....deer like that are unique and I say it'll be a cool Euro mount and definitely be a topic of conversation. Congrats!!!!

Check out "gutless method" on YouTube. Best way to IMO to field care for any animal. By not opening up the chest cavity, the meat remains much cleaner. Not to mention that it's much easier to pack out the elk if driving up to it isn't an option.
