    3a 3c archery

Was wondering what everyone thinks about these units going to a draw for archery and if you think the game and fish is planning to do this to more units. Do you think the success rate becomes to high so they need to limit the tags?

Yes the maps at the Williams office. They closed a lot of roads and gave out maps last year. The officers we talked to last year said they are giving tickets this year. There are a lot of closed roads and they are not marked most of them good roads with numbers.
  8. Wanted to here from people that have shot them both, and if the smaller brace height of the insanity makes a difference in accuracy at longer distances. Also I have shot them both but the shop I shot them at only had the invasion at 60 pounds, I would have like to have shot them both at 70 to see if there is any difference in the draw cycle. All the shops I have talked to don't have any invasions to shoot at 70 so any input will help. This bow will be used as a hunting bow only. Thx Mark
  9. I was wondering if any one has used or heard anything about this rest. It looks like a good idea but not sure if the locking down is a good thing, does it ever not open or does it open fast enough. If any knows or has used this rest your comments would be appreciated. Thx Mark

  12. When it came time to put in for javelina I asked my son if he was ready to hunt, he said that he was, but that he did not want to put in for a junior or the general hunt. He wanted to go archery with my friends and me. At first I wanted him to use a rifle. I thought he would have a better chance at tagging one, but he was sure that he wanted to use his new bow, so I put him in on our tag. After we received our tags we registered for his hunter Ed class. My main concern was at 10 could he pull the 40 lb draw weight needed to take a javelina. We practiced and continued to raise the pounds on his bow right up till the hunt; he was shooting straight and could pull 40 lbs. The first weekend came and we were off. All I could think about was getting him a shot but we could not locate any pigs. We saw some deer and had unsuccessful stocks. Bryan was doing well walking up and down the desert mountains and dealing with the cold mornings and warm afternoons. The second weekend came and we were back at it still the same result, no pigs. But Bryan was not getting discouraged, despite getting a knot the size of a golf ball between his eyes from his binoculars, a bee sting, and falling in to a cactus, he still wanted to go for the last weekend. My friend had gotten his javelina on the second weekend but came along just to help. As the morning started off we located some deer but they were too far away to tell if any were bucks so we decided to get in the Rhino and see if we could get a better look at them. We went down this old road as far as we could and could only see one of the deer; we walked out to a point thinking we would be able to see in the cut they were in when we spooked about ten javelina out. They ran down the mountain and up the other side and stopped about 80 yards from the top. My friend stayed where he could see them and we went after them down a steep hill and up an even steeper one we were on top and circled around so we were right above them. As we started down my friend was pointing where to go I had left my radio behind. We could hear them moving around but could not see them when my friend was waving his arms telling me they were moving we ridged the mountain only to see the pigs at the bottom and going up the other side. So down and up we went, my friend had radioed his uncle to tell him we had some pigs and we ran into him on top he had a radio so I was able to talk to my friend and asked what happened to the other pigs only 4 ran out, he said “o ya let me look". While waiting we took time to get a drink and unload some clothes, after about 40 min the radio came on, "I found them they are in the same spot under a tree". Back down and up again put us back in our original spot, we moved slowly and came to a tree where my friend said we would be able to see them. From the tree we could see one pig, I ranged him at 37 yards and told Bryan to shoot, he shot and missed, the pig took off and I shot. The shot was off and hit him in the hip I could tell he was hurt and I knew my friend could see were he went. I turned to Bryan and asked what happened he was holding his arm the string had hit his forearm. At that time a pig came out of the bush and stood in the same spot as the first one, shoot him I said and he drew back and made a perfect heart shot. The javelina jumped and took off, we could see the blood coming out and it was a complete pass through, he turned to me and said "this is the best day ever dad". After locating his and tagging his, I left him with my friend’s uncle and went after mine. My buddy told me he was just down the hill, sitting there. I could see the blood and I was ready to finish him off when he took off in to a bush. I had to shoot a few more times while my son kept yelling at me telling me he would come finish him off for me if I needed him to, all in all a great day. Thanks Rito and Eduardo for all your help.

    trick tanks

I was wondering who services them and why they dont fix them when they are not working. I have located two in the area I would like to hunt but both are not working and the suply tanks are full and where the valves are is locked. Even if it was unlocked the floats are broke and the tanks are in bad shape. Just thought since they were there would be nice if they worked.

    two old couse sheds

took my son on his first turkey hunt, didn't get a tom but had a great time. We found these cool sheds about 500 yards apart they are both old but look like they could be from the same deer just different years.

    best pics yet

I have had my camera at this spot for three months scouting for my wife and my elk hunt. We had been getting a ton of elk at this camera and just a few deer. On opening day of our hunt (day after deer ended) we went to our spot, I grabed the memory card hoping to have the same elk activity that we had all summer, but to my suprise not many elk and this guy stole the show gave me about fifty pics over 24 hrs. Here are a few hope you like them I did. After that this spot was never the same lots of deer, no more of him and the elk were gone don't know if the deer or all the hunters pushed them out.

wife and I 1st bull hunt

This had to be one of the best summers I have ever had. My family and my friends family spent almost every weekend for the last three months scouting and just being away from home and out of the heat. We had three tags, my wife, me and my friend, we all got drawn on seperat tags this was my wife and my first bull tags. The plan was to get my wife a bull first, she has a bad leg and was limited on how much she could walk. We had a good spot I thought, all summer we had elk in front of her blind never any huge bulls but she was going to shoot the 1st one with antlers and let me chase bulls the rest of the hunt. We had a few other good spots and we felt good about the hunt. At last the day was here and we got to the blind about an hour before the sun came up, we sat there till about ten only seeing one cow, all summer the elk were all over that hill from 7:00 till around 8:30 but not today. As we were leaving we seen four other trucks and who knows how many people were walking around, we spent alot of time there and never seen another person. Back at camp my friend had the same experince, people, people, and more people. With so much presure on all the spots we planed on hunting we went to plan B. The next morining got up and drove to a spot close to camp and there was about six bulls bugleing, my wife sat a stick blind and my friend and I took off up the hill. At first light we were in to elk right away seeing cows running past us up the hill as well. The bulls seemed to keep moving and so were we, I thought if we could get in front on them or in the middle of them we would have a chance. Our first encounter was with a small rag horn and he busted us, it seemed as if the elk split up after that. My buddy went to the top and I walked down the hill a bit still chaseing bugles. About an hour later the bugles had calmed down and had stoped to eat, after breakfask I gave a cow call and got a responce he sounded like he was on top of me, a few minutes passed and I saw a 5x5 with two cows about eighty yards they were feeding and just moving along. I watched them for five minutes and then I noticed that above me there was two elk at about fourty yards a cow and a decent bull but I could only see one side of his rack. I could see six points on that one side and pretty good mass, not quite the bull I wanted but at fourty yards I decided to take the shot. The bull was behind some trees and the cow was staring at me I nocked an arrow and got up, when I moved the bull steped out I drew and shot, the hit looked good the cow took off down hill and the bull uphill at thirty yards I gave a cow call and he stoped looked back and fell over backwards. Wow I couldn't belive he droped in front of me. With me getting mine on the second day and all of our spots having lots of hunters I had time to find a good place for my wife to hunt. On sunday night my wife and I sat a water hole that I had seen a nice bull leaving one night during the deer hunt. The water hole was almost perfect it had two meadows leading to the water from the east and south but there was a road to the west. We got there at 3:00 and set up between to baby pines and put a camo net between the trees. At 5:30 I noticed some cows coming out of the trees and then a real nice bull steped out they fed there way down the meadow the bull was pushing them and all I could think about was I hope nobody drives down the road. It took them thirty minutes to get to the water the lead cow was a little spoked but started to drink and the rest did the same, the bull came in about three minutes later as he started to drink I wispered for her to pull back. On her movement he took off I was able to stop him at fourty yards but when he spoked my wife didn't come to draw and she tried to draw again and he was gone. That was her first encounter with any wild animal at that close and it just happened to be a 360 class bull. The next day I put a ground blind up and we sat hoping he would return. He never did but a different bull with fourteen cows did four days later and he pushed his way to the water she took a shot at 35yards and hit him in the front shoulder. We looked for him that night and found no blood but did find her busted arrow she didn't get much penatration. We returned at first light and followed tracks with no blood for 500 yards and about 100 yards up the hill he must of stoped running and we found some blood, a small blood trail for 200 yards then nothing, we looked till 1:00 only to find a few sheads and a single drop of blood in a track like it was running down his leg. We never found the bull and she got another shot and missed, we hunted till the last day and she didn't get one. She had a great time and some awesome experinces and I think she is hooked. My friend ended up taking that 360 bull on a different tank four days after he came in on us.

I use the sandisk cards and they seem to work but you can't use more than 2GB card. The battery life is very unconsistat like you said you get what you pay for, but it dosn't hurt as bad when some jerk takes it

    calling to much

I have read what every one is saying about calling to much, and it makes sense that the elk would get call shy. But I had heard somewere that in pre rutt, calling alot with a sequence of cow calls for twenty or thirty minutes, and then if after 20 minutes, nothing shows, move far enough away to where the calls couldn't be heard then repeat the sequence and if heard most of the time the bull will come in quite. This year looks like the rut won't get started till the end of the hunt and this might be a good thing to try. I was wondering if anyone has tried this and if it worked, my wife and I have our first bull tags this year.
