A few months back someone made a post about worthless threads. May I present " Exhibit A"

what to do once buck spots you?

Don't shoot at distances longer than you know you can make a kill shot. If he hasn't busted and you have the wind right you still have a chance. Be patient and wait for him to look away and double check that no does are looking. Stay in as much cover as possible.

    New #2 bull elk

Thinking the same thing too. Don't think one pic will ruin any magazine deals.

    Big Eye Optics

Swfa made the bracket you are talking about, not sure if they still do. There was a discussion on here a few years back and the reviews weren't very good. If you want the straight eye pieces, check out the doctors 30x. Becker has them, maybe he'll chime in with a review.

    Aiming at the wrong target

Good post Pine Donkey. There is so much that goes into building a college sports program that there's no way to discuss them all. One big one is obviously recruiting and getting top tier players. Another is getting a little lucky with timing. When Lute came to UA in the 80s the timing was perfect because UCLA was struggling through the post-Wooden era. Olson was able to get a stud out of Tucson (Sean Elliot) and some good recruits out of CA that normally would have gone to UCLA. That team was UAs first Final Four and the rest is history. When Sean Miller came to UA the timing was perfect because UCLA was trending down, USC was in turmoil and there weren't any real good teams in the PAC10/12. Miller was able to immediately start getting the best players in CA and rebuild UA basketball in very short time. Timing is good for both of these football programs. USC is struggling, leaving the door open to steal the recruits necessary to build their programs. Unfortunately, the timing has been good for a while now and each school had a couple coaches that didn't pan out. UCLA has had a few solid years in a row and may be taking advantage of USCs problems. Both UA and ASU teams this year were still primarily built off recruits from the previous coaches. These next 2 years will be crucial for the two programs to continue to move forward as there are going to be some big holes to fill. A step back now could lead to more years of mediocrity and this rivalry meaning nothing outside of Arizona.

Help me choose the better bino harness

http://carryallhitch.tripod.com/home/index.html This is the one I use and will never switch. It is different than all the others and works way better. Could easily be adapted to work with a pouch if desired.
  11. One of the sheep, a young ram, has already died. I fear it is a sign of more to come. http://azstarnet.com/news/local/newly-relocated-bighorn-found-dead-in-catalina-mountains/article_776d8e83-597b-5ee9-938f-b87c7c9501d1.html
  12. After not being drawn, a group of us picked up leftover tags. We all planned on hunting Friday thru Monday morning. On Saturday we were all able to help a good buddy's 10-year old son get his first buck. We continued hunting hard but Monday morning rolled around and my tag was still unfilled. We decided to go back to where we were opening day since we had seen a good number of bucks and felt that the area should hold some bigger bucks. After the long hike up the mountain we were in our glassing spot waiting for it to get light enough to glass. I was quickly able to find a buck feeding on a ridge around 1000 yards away. I could tell it was a 3 point but in the low light couldn't tell much about it. It joined a couple other smaller bucks that we had seen opening day and as it got lighter the buck looked pretty good. We decided to move closer to get in position to shoot. We moved to a small ridge closer to the buck and found him quickly. He was still feeding but acted like he was looking for a place to bed. The range was 500 yards, I adjusted the turret and once the buck presented a shot I squeezed the trigger and heard my brother say he's down. Here's some photos. I was shooting my new 300 Win Mag with Noslers new 210 grn Long Range Accubond. The bullet liked being pushed hard with my best groups at a muzzle velocity of 2860 fps. At 500 yards the velocity should have been around 2250 fps. The buck was quartered to me, I hit him right behind the shoulder, the bullet broke a few ribs, traveled about 2 ft through the bucks body and stopped just inside the hide of his opposite hind quarter. Below is a pic of the recovered bullet. Good looking mushroom with the solid base holding the bullet together. Weight of the bullet is 103 grn so approximately 50% weight retention.

UofA got it done BIG TIME

No basketball this weekend so we might as well watch football. The big game this coming week is in Madison square garden, not Tempe

UofA got it done BIG TIME

I don't understand why kadeem is not even being considered for the heisman. 48 carries for 206 yds and 4 TD against the #5 team.

    140" Rumors...

That doesn't happen in real life!
  17. kwp

why do you say coues buck is a 3x3?

Because if it isn't old enough to have eye guards then it isn't worth counting how many points it has. Same thing is done for muleys. Mature buck is a 4 pt. 4 on each side plus eye guards. Clear as mud if you ask me! Real reason is that when easterners started hunting out west they found the coues so challenging that they forgot how to count.

The Buck I Never Dreamed Of

Awesome buck for sure. He does look bigger than 112 but even if that is correct, that is still a huge buck, bigger than most people will ever harvest. I love the excitement in your pictures and posts. So often hunters try to give the "tough guy" look in their photos but it is refreshing to see your joy and excitement. Congrats on a buck of a lifetime.

I went there this morning, great facility. I will need to go there on a more regular basis because my shooting was pretty bad.

    2013 Leftover Buck

Thanks for all the kind replies everyone. Every coues hunt has new challenges that make these hunts so enjoyable.
  22. Seems like the really old bucks start to get kinda ugly and look more like an ugly eastern than our gorgeous coues.

    Unit 23 Giant

Not saying that mossback did or didn't do anything but getting trail cam pics means nothing these days. Anybody can get trail cam pics of a big animal. Seeing it on the hoof and then harvesting it are the hard part.
