    video hunts

I usa a Sony Handycam HDR-CX160. It is HD and 30x optical zoom. I think that it works pretty well. I'm not sure if it can be used with a doubler but the 30x optical does pretty well. Check out the videos in the thread below: http://www.coueswhitetail.com/forums/topic/37542-late-season-rally/ I am pretty sure that video cams have been discussed in another thread, try doing a search.

    Late Season Rally

I was behind the camera on the two videos. Trying to video, keep tabs on the bucks, and give ranges to the shooter at the same time. That's why the first video gets off track a few times (come on swarovski, we need a combo bino, video camera, rangefinder all in one $$$) The video camera is a Sony Handycam HDR-CX160. It is HD and 30x optical zoom. The youtube videos can be viewed in HD if you change the setting and are willing to wait forever for it to load. Thanks for the kind replies, it was a fun hunt!

    RUT ACTIVITY

Saw a small coues buck pushing his 3 does around. Also saw a 105 class buck with 6 does. The rest of the bucks were solo. Looked to me that at least the bucks are thinking that its time to start the rut.

    Wanted: Swarovski bino/tripod adapter

I've seen binos fall off the swaro adapter as well. The outdoorsmans screws down so there is no way of the binos falling off.

    Rut Hunting

Like Coues&Bass said, a big reason that you don't see a fawn with every doe is predation. An extremely high % of does get bred, but the survival rate of fawns is lower. I also think that it is difficult to see every fawn. Often times I will be watching a doe (or group of does) and then out of nowhere there are fawns with them. Those little suckers can hide very easily. The habitat in Arizona can not hold the quantity of deer that the eastern states can which is why management techniques need to be different.

    Are the elk confused?

I know this happened last year in 1 and 27. Most everyone I talked to figured it was because the Wallow Fire messed with the cows estrus cycle, thus creating a later, and stronger, 2nd rut. Sounds like it is more widespread this year. I wonder if it will continue.

    just got back from 36b

I've hunted 36b for a while now and was helping a buddy this weekend down there. He did kill a 94" buck so we were successful but I would say on average we saw 35-40 deer a day but only 3-5 bucks. Most of these bucks were spikes. I have noticed a steady decline in the number of bucks over the last few years. I think the addition of the 4th hunt a few years back plus the steady increase in tags is having a detrimental impact on the buck to doe ratio.

    Game over

In four more years, will the Obama adminstration continue to blame the Bush administration for what Obama inherited?

    Antler Restrictions

As many have already said, the number of tags is rediculous. The early hunts have too many tags plus they keep adding more hunts. I don't buy the whole opportunity arguement. If we need more opportunity then why are there thousands of leftover tags every year? Everyone here seems to get it, are we really in the minority? I remember the survey that g&f put out a few years back, supposedly people wanted more opportunity but since that time they have continually added tags. Is there anything we can do to reverse this trend? G&F also has some units that they claim are managed for quality, with less tags (36c) but these units seem to be small units with more access restrictions so they should obviously have less tags.
  14. Congrats again Devin!! He failed to mention that he came really close to harvesting this buck with his bow, twice. Truly amazing buck!
  15. Are you shooting handloads or factory ammo?

    Barnes LRX

The LRX are pretty much the same price as the TTSX. Casey is probably thinking of the MRX which are way more expensive. I don't have any first-hand experience with them but will be trying them in my .300 Win Mag although I probably won't get around to it until next spring. I have loaded some up and can tell you that you'll want to pay attention to magazine length. I had to load mine with a 0.07" jump in order to get them to fit in the magazine. The barnes bullets typically do well seated a ways off the lands and I think barnes recommends starting with 0.05" so I don't suspect it will be a problem. Let us know how they shoot if you try them!

    new backpack?

Like azgutpile said, I believe the j34 and dragonfly have the same sized scabbard. If you carry one of the larger spotting scopes (80mm) then you'll want to go with the dragonfly because the long vertical pockets on the j34 are smaller and very difficult to get a spotting scope in them. The gunslinger, gunrunner, and some of their military packs have larger scabbards.
  18. Try Boretech Eliminator and/or Boretech Cu+2 Copper Remover. Both have worked well for me and gotten more fouling out in a gun that I thought was clean after using other copper solvents. They also won't damage your barrel.

Saw it this morning from Tucson, cool looking for sure!
  21. My powder of choice for the.270 is H4831. It should work well in your 25-06 also so no need to buy multiple powders. Its a Hodgon Extreme Powder so it is very stable over a wide range of temps.
