Well once again my son Elijah got it done. Opening morning right off the start we jumped a big 4x4 and two nice 3 points but couldn't seal the deal. An hour later we spot 2 more nice 3 points and again just couldn't make it happen. We headed in for some lunch and around 1pm we're back it. Right away I glass a 2 point taking a siesta and the stock was on. We got to about 110 yards and the buck gets up looking our way! I set my son up for the shot and it was lights out!!! As soon as my son shot a 4x4 and a 3x3 get up from their siesta and high tail it out of there. I never even seen the two other bucks bedded. What more can I ask for and what more can I say. Priceless!!!! JD

Well I was one of those lucky guys that didnt get an elk tag again this year! But I still wanted to be part of the hunt. So Friday evening I picked up my son from school and we headed out to our old family camp and met up with a couple of my cousins. Saturday morning we’re up at 4am and go this bowl we call elk city. Name says it all. Well at sun rise I start to bugle to see if we could locate some bulls and we immediately hear a few respond but far away. The bulls were on but not committed. So we decide to hit a water hole about ½ mile away. As we approach the water hole we hear a bugle so I respond back with a bugle and a few cow calls. My cousin stays in place and I head back about 40 yards. I start cow calling and this bull responded back every time and is coming in. A few more cow calls and he’s rushing in!!! The bull pass by at 5 yards in front of my cousin and he lets it rip. Solid hit. The bull runs about 100 yards and expired. You know the rest of the story, the fun starts!!!! Packing it out!!!! Lol I was so glad to be part of this hunt. Doing the calling and helping pack this animal out made me fill as if I had filled my own tag. Beside there's no other place I rather be than in God's beautiful country... JD

I can tell you this, a hawk is considered a migratory bird and is therefore protected under federal law!!!! I raise birmingham roller (pigeons) and my birds get hit by hawks and falcon all the time. There's nothing you can do!!! I know this really sucks!!! JD

I was up in 4A over the weekend camping with the family and the bulls were very vocal. I also seen 10 bulls all hard horned. How about in other units? Anyone else hearing any bulls vocal? JD

Hey JD do you have a tag for that unit? I was up there as well and only heard a couple bugles. I was mostly in the ceders. WildCat, no I don't get drawn again. lol But my son had a cow tag for that unit last year so we were basically just hang out and doing some hiking. Most of the elk activity we heard was near Middle Ridge Rd and Wiggins Crossing Rd. There were elk every where. But you know as well as I know come elk season their nowhere to be found. lol JD

You do not have to leave the tendorloins with the gutless method! You just make an incision near the spine and reach in and cut or grab them out. It's pretty simple. Thanks Amanda, Just now seen a video from Jay Scott Outdoors that shows how he removed it. Yes, very simple technic. I'll be giving that try. JD

Only thing about gutless is that your leaving some of the best meat, tendorloins!!!!! JD

I'm no expert in identifying wolf's or coyotes but I hunt 18B and 17A alot and I've come across 2 animals that I swear were wolf's. The hair on the back of my neck stood straight up after seeing them then hear a howl that was no coyote!!!!! JD
