Well once again I'm proud and blessed to say that my son Elijah got it done again. His 2014 jr. javelina hunt was a big success putting the smack down on a very nice javelina. Before mentioning anything else I just want to thank the Main Man up stairs for blessing me with a wonder family and friends who have supported and help us along our journey. I can't forget about Out2hunt - Ken Meyers for all the help and advise that shared with me. We woke up bright and early Friday morning and headed into our destination. Once there we unloaded the polars, grabbed our gear and began our journey. On the way into our hunting spot we were glassing certain hill sides that looked promising and after glassing several hill sides my son spotted a small herd of 8 javelina crest over a ridge. So off we go to see if we could cut them off. We couldn't find them any where so we sat for awhile and off to our left I hear some commotion. We headed in that direction and right away I spotted a pig rooting. They never went 20 yards from when we first seen them go over the hill. After some time my son settles in for a 70 yard shot and drops the pig right there in his tracks. Man, it was the greatest feeling ever. Priceless!!! So proud of my son. Thanks for reading, JD

Hey guys/gals, I'm in the market of purchasing a new vortex and wanted to get your guys opinions. I'm stuck between the Viper and the Diamondback HD. I will be mainly using this as my yote hunting rifle (.243) and want to be able shoot a little further than I have in the past (200 yards). I like to be able to shoot at least out to 350 yards. Your thoughts and opinons would be greatly appreciated. Thanks JD

++1 on the Javelina Hunter J13. My son had his jr. javelina hunt today and after his shot I blow on the J13 and it called in 2 mad pigs charging within 1 foot from us. Exciting and scary all at the same time. And my son harvested his 1st Javi. JD

$100 toyota 4runner Daystar lift kit 96-02 2/4WD 3" lift kit
down2hunt replied to down2hunt's topic in Classified Ads
The kit is a simple lift with both the front and rear 3" spacers made out of Polyurethane material. So it acts also as an insulator. It absorbs the Noise, Vibration, and Harmonics (NVH) that come from the suspension. The rear coil springs that I mentioned are McGaughy's the rear springs to help eliminate the rear sag that the 96-02 4runners are known for. So guess there a stiffer spring. JD -

Well, I don't know how to put this in words but I'm so proud of my son. He put in a lot of hard work and really deserved it. It was a blast. Memories that will never be forgotten. I also want to thank a few members (CouseRanger, JmWarren65 and MuggyMan) on here that were very helpful and especially the Man up stairs. Thanks, I really appreciate your guys advice. JD

Nice job and congratulations.

lol. yup. Maybe he was going to gut it at camp or something? That's what I did but my buck was very accessible with my quad. Had it strung up, gutted and skinned within an hour of shooting it. JD

Yes. Found them on a buddies deer that I was doing a European mount for. But they were in the in the nasal passage not under the skin. I have read that the larvae is laid in the nasal passage by the adult fly in the summer. The larvae lives deep within the nasal passage until the following spring then crawls out and developes into an adult in the soil. A biologist told me that it was not harmful to the deer or to people that eat the meat. I bet it is annoying as #@!% to have something that big crawling around in your nasal passage! The biologist also told me that after the deer is killed the larvae just start crawling around...that's why they end up in the throat and mouth. JD

I know this ain't the mule deer section of the forum. But I just wanted to let you know that karma did pay off. I was out again scouting for my sons jr. javelina hunt. Well the plans were to leave early Saturday morning but my boss tells me that he needed me work Saturday so that killed my plans of hunting the whole weekend. So after work I gather my stuff and off I go with my son and nephew. Got out to our area a little late but did some glassing and spotted does. Sunday morning I'm up early and headed down the trail stopping every 1/4 mile to glass and hopefully spot some pigs but nothing. Get a few miles in and I see someone down a canyon and seen that he was attemping to hull a really nice 4x4 out by himself. Got off the quad and helped him carry his buck to his truck. So off I went and did the same routen drive 1/4 mile and glass to no avial, no pigs any where!!! At this point I was tired and hungry so I started to head back to camp when out of nowhere these 6 doe's and this 3x2 walk out about 50 yards from the road. I park the quad and begin my stalk. Got to about 20 yards draw back and let her rip and I miss!!! Really!!! The buck paid no attention to me and kept chasing the doe's. I get back on him again about 30 yards. Take a deep breath & calmed down. Released and watched my arrow hit him in the boiler. He runs 20 yards and is out. It wasn't the 4x4 I wanted but a trophy in my book. Thanks JD

Thanks guys. Yes, he was smiling from ear to ear. Reminds me of my 1st kill with a bow and now I cant stop the fever. My son actually has a Jr. hunt the 24th in this same unit (17A, 17B, and 18B) so I was just doing some scouting. I was really hoping for that big 4x4 to appear behind the glass but no activity. We still have a few more weeks so hopefully I'll make it happen. But hey as they say "A bad day of hunting is better than a good day of work" lol Shoot Straight my friends, JD

I was out headed into an area never hunted on my quad and passed a 14 year old and his father. After a quick conversation I headed out and was glassing along the way. Well I glassed up a herd of ten and went back to the 14 year old and put him on the pigs and he was able to harvest his 1st big game with his bow. It felt good to help someone else out especially a youth hunter. JD

Opinions on Phil Roberston suspension from A&E

I feel the morals of this world are flipped up side down!!! "What is good is considered bad and what is bad is considered good"
