Good 10s and low end 15s? or Decent 15s and low end 10s?
CouesPursuit replied to MWagner01's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
Edit, joke was lost on the commenter or just not funny.. OP, I'd rather have cheaper 10-12x than 15x, save more for Meopta, Zeiss, or Swarovski. -
It is interesting that ever since the vaccine rolled out, we don't hear about asymptomatic cases anymore either, just unvaccinated spread. It seems the vaccinated could be spreading it just as much as the unvaccinated if it suppresses their symptoms so well. The vaccinated also go untested in many circumstances. It all seems to make that 125,000 breakthrough case number significantly underestimated. Don't get me wrong, I want the vaccine to work and keep people from severe illness, but with forced mandates, big pharma money, government power, the narrative constantly changing, and goal posts moving, it is tough to go all in and trust squat. Younger than 30 and healthy and forced vaccination, what?!

It also looks like there is a series of "pages" dedicated to adults taking videos of kids hurting themselves. This was no isolated incident, people just suck indeed.

Better than non-HD Swaro 10x SLC's. I use these over my 15x56 B1 Meostars more than I would like to admit. Great glass.

Reloading for longrange neck size or full size?
CouesPursuit replied to Crazymonkey's topic in Long Range Shooting
A couple years ago, I was attempting to reload a neck-sized cartridge (with a few firings) on a second coyote that was running in and it failed to chamber, costing me a dog and even worse, educating it. After what I learned here and on other forums, especially for all hunting rifles, neck sizing is really only used on virgin brass brass for me now to make sure all pieces have the same neck tension and consistency before their first firing. After that, I have adopted the .002" shoulder bump method. Fast forward to this past year, I had a mag drop out in the dirt while setting up on a lion. After 2 lungs full of air to blow out the big stuff and likely thanks to the shoulder bump, I was able to still chamber a round and kill the lion. I also shot a .25" group last week with neck sized virgin brass even with headspacing varied by a few thousandths. I'm a confirmed believer in both methods in each respective application. -
My old Savage 110 7mm Rem Mag recently got a semi-custom upgrade. It now holds a new 26" 1:9 Criterion barrel, brake, lug, nut, and trigger in a B&C stock. The barrel is floating and action bedded. Now to decide which bullet to load first, I am interested in some CWT wisdom, please and thanks. I have a reasonable number of 140gr Barnes TTSX and 160gr Nosler Accubonds with 8# kegs of H1000 and RL23. I have several other 1# bottles but prefer to finalize a load with the kegs. I know both are more than capable and will load each long term to cover long range play, elk and lead-free hunting scenarios - but knowing that I have a WY antelope and AZ coues hunt this fall, which combo of bullet/powder would you load first and focus on for the remainder of 2021?

7mm RM Bullet Choice
CouesPursuit replied to CouesPursuit's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
Did some seating depth testing today, the 160 NAB liked 0.010" jump in this Criterion barrel. -
I would put that poor bastard out of its misery though for sure.

La Niña is usually dry and colder than normal winter.

WHEELER SCOPE LEVELING FAT WRENCH / UPDATED 07/30
CouesPursuit replied to bowhnt's topic in Classified Ads
These are a good deal, especially considering the digital version of this Wheeler wrench can burn out and become useless overnight. -
7mm RM Bullet Choice
CouesPursuit replied to CouesPursuit's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
I started breaking in the new 26" Criterion while testing some groups with virgin Norma brass, H1000 and the 160 NAB. First range trip found a great node from 67.0-68.0 gr. All well under 1" @ 100 yards with similar POI and velocities ranging from 3010-3050 FPS. The second range trip and a 68.0 charge printed a 1.2" group at 200 yards while setting my hunting zero. I will test seating depths next trip to close the horizontal dispersion and hunt 68.0gr this fall. Once my 200 pieces of virgin Norma are fired and the barrel speeds up, I'll check for the next node up or fine tune the existing. I'll compare RL23 for the heck of it but H1000 looks like it will be tough to beat. -
