7mm RM Bullet Choice
CouesPursuit replied to CouesPursuit's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
I'm still not sure what the problem was but I do want to give the 160 NABs another shot. Same rifle now, but everything including Norma brass is new. -

I wouldn't ever shoot anything farther than 599 on game (arbitrary but meaningful to me for some reason) but your analysis still prefers the Noslers. Thank you. -

STOMP, your input is always greatly appreciated but I'm working with the 2 bullets above. I have other rifles lighter in carry weight and chambering that drop critters dead but fragment a decent amount of lead. In this setup, I was specifically seeking bullets that hold together and could kill an elk out several hundred yards. I would have gone with 1:8 to shoot the heavies. The 1:9 should help keep my options open for the future though. -

Great responses, thank you! Lance, any additional info on those charge weights with the RL23 and 160's? When I was having those problems with 160's on the old barrel, I started at 61gr. -
I just finished a bedding job yesterday. I used several coats of Hornady One Shot as a release agent and covered the action screws in red bearing grease and snugged them to 20 inch/pounds. It worked really well.

Pretty sure the OP said he was going to give it a shot.

I understand the majority are easy to identify but I wonder if Amanda or Stanley would be interested in adding or changing one of the like/reaction buttons to a spam indicator?

There is potential risk involved any time you fire a hand loaded bullet in a different rifle from which is it was developed for. Your bullets could be seated further in but the 2 questions I would be concerned with first are, were these cases full length or neck sized and what is the charge weight. If it is anywhere near max for that particular powder/bullet in the particular cartridge, I would pull the bullets and reload. Otherwise, if they were definitely full length sized and the charge weight is reasonably below max, make sure the bullets aren't jammed into the lands in the new rifle, shoot one, and check for pressure signs.

The draw , disappointment, sour grapes , ignorance and the money grab
CouesPursuit replied to NYAZHunter's topic in The Campfire
There has to be an incredible number of the social media-captured archers that came down to AZ to try to kill a coues buck with a bow (that couldn't) and made plans to come back and try with a rifle. Thank goodness for that 10% cap. Now that AZGFD did their recruiting, it would be nice if they stopped NR OTC. -
DIY, I'm lucky the desert sheep tag was once-in-a-lifetime. I'm extremely thankful I was able to experience it but there is an unexplainable amount of stress, time and money involved to make it feel like I was "doing it right." That is all factored in to how special the hunt was for me and I have zero regrets. Congrats to all the new tag holders. The best advice I received is start scouting now and just enjoy having the opportunity. Anyone can pm me if you want to chat lessons learned.

Especially after watching you help trphyhntr and his pops last year, I hope this post ages well! You deserve the sheep tag!

Plywood smothered with Thompsons Water Seal holds for years, especially if you keep it covered. I had that typed before Mark chimed in, but he is spot on with that. With how much time I was putting in duck hunting in the last decade, I chose not to use carpet on my second remodel because when it started to wear after the first remodel, it left its trace on everything that touched it and eventually peeled, looked like crap, and was a nightmare to remove from the aluminum surfaces it was glued to. Now that I have kids, my deck will have carpet again next year. I have seen my buddies try foam varities and it is not for me, wears way too fast and costs way too much.

Rebuild it yourself. Everything is on YouTube and the internet. Check out TinBoats.net and duck hunting forums. It is going to take so many hours that the labor you're asking for will far exceed the value of the boat. You are going to spend a lot of time, but the reward and know-how will be worth it. You'll know the boat inside and out and get every little thing dialed in your way. I've enhanced and rebuilt both my 11ft fiberglass sneak boat and 16ft aluminum tracker several times over and they are fish catchin' and duck killin' machines that I wouldn't sell or trade for the world. My 0.02.

I'll pass for now and admit myself - there is a reason I won't trade my primer stash! It is a great powder, you'll get it traded, GL👍🏼

Good luck with the H4895 trade, interested if you end up selling. Thx.

Coconino NF to fully CLOSE Wednesday 6/23/2021
CouesPursuit replied to Red Rabbit's topic in The Campfire
Kaibab will mimic Coconino and close on Wednesday. -
Results ready. Our party of 4 got antelope buck tags and two of our guys pulled a couple doe tags each.
-
Thanks for the reply. I figured with "Great Buck" as an option, "SPAM!" could be too but I definitely understand.

Edit. I was trying to help poster above but likely misinterpreted he meant the .264s that were traded, good luck with the sale OP.

Showlow lake, Rainbow, Fools hallow boat ramp access
CouesPursuit replied to Adicted's topic in Fishing
Yes, Willow. The fish in that pic had a red treble hook and 2 feet of 8-10lb line with a split shot hanging out of her mouth that was removed before release. I caught another similar in size that I tried to quiety release but was swarmed by kayaks and left 20 minutes later. It made towing the boat to the weekend camping trip worth it in short order though. -
