    Crappie

I'm slow or you may have mistyped "those." If you meant "days," definitely not but a big leap of progress compared to anything since 2011ish. Roosevelt filling this year after Florida-strain largemouth and Arkansas black-nose crappie stockings is a combination that I'm extremely excited to see how it plays out. Hopefully guys let those little black-nose back in the water this year, they fight like a big yellow bass and nothing like the typical black crappies.

    Crappie

Roosevelt 2 decades ago was as good as anywhere in the west I'd have to imagine. I went to San Carlos for the first time 2 years ago when no other lakes were producing and I was amazed at the crappie there, especially considering the lake was empty less than 2 years prior. I remember my first day marking fish all the way up to the inlet. Cool lake, special place, maybe it was better Roosevelt all those years? Anyway, tight lines on dem papermouths.

    Crappie

Not sure about all that, just something I've been doing as long as I can remember thanks to my Dad, and I really love eating them. Pops and I in the 90's after a Sunday morning troll. Landing triples in the early 2000's. Getting my 19 month old daughter out the last few weeks. And dinner tonight. Sorry to throw this all out there but crappie and coues are the best 2 living creatures in this state and I have trouble missing an opportunity to BS about them.

    Crappie

Azcrappie.com has reports as well as FB. I have caught 150+ crappie in the last 3 weeks on the Tonto end of Roosevelt but none that exceeded 2+ lbs on my scale. Well over half of those were the recently stocked black-nose and were released for next year. If any cwt member wants details send me a note and I'll tell you everything I know.

    Effects of the virus scare?

Getting back to the OP, the worst of the "effects" is yet to come. In way too many states, this is no longer America. I'm (almost) speechless.

    Tonto Carp

I've crappie fished the Tonto end of Roos 8 days in the last 2.5 weeks and today the carp are extremely plentiful. If you shoot them, they are here near the surface and ready to take some arrows. I've seen a several 15lb fish.

A little better than a cormorant but not quite as good ibis.

    Crappie

Some good news in the midst of things - After several of the busiest months I've ever had, I was finally able to bring my oldest out fishing for a daddy-daughter day. Roosevelt didn't disappoint. This angel fished from 8am to 4pm and wasn't the reason we had to come home. We caught and released well over a dozen of the recently stocked black-nose crappie - A few spiny yellows- And kept some slabs - After a decade, the outlook for Roosevelt is finally shaping up in my humble opinion. Stay safe and enjoy what you can, CWT!

    Boat Ramps Closed at Roosevelt?

Cholla and Indian Point are both open. Cholla was a bit of a circus twice last week, then Sunday after a peaceful launch at 6am, Indian Point's dock was full of sunbathing teenagers and people hanging on the ramp blocking the second lane upon return.

    Crappie

Thanks, Shane. If you are headed up during business hours Spring Creek on the salt side is the only place at Roosevelt itself. Someone please prove me wrong for all our sakes! BBC for bass 2 days this week and John Deere Green for the bigger crappie. Minnow-only rigs is what caught the yellows and most of the black-nose though if you are just looking at getting some fish on the hook for the kids.

    Crappie

I didn't see any bass fisherman actually land a fish with my eyes on the little one and my own rods but I got 10 bass long lining using a 1/16oz black spin jig with a kalin's BBC.

    Crappie

Thank you everyone for the nice words! Got after it again today and kept 8 females in the 14-17" range, throwing back another dozen or so 10-12" crappie and same for largemouth. I'm catching fish that are still staging in deeper water but the eggs look like they still have weeks to go. Take care 👍🏼

Salt and Verde River Lakes are filling up

There won't be any water dropping out of Roosevelt due to the runoff. As normal, the releases there won't begin until later this spring. The releases now are all from the Verde side. Roosevelt still has a lot of storage.
