Upland of a different feather
CouesPursuit replied to WampusCat's topic in Small Game, Upland Bird, and Waterfowl Hunting
Great write-up and adventure in making the best of what you have. I am really looking forward to reading your stories when you get home safe and soon brother! I'll hopefully experience a couple with you, too. -
Congratulations on a great bull on a tough hunt! Welcome!

I put a new camera up last June about a mile below another camera that had been producing some good critters. Each time I went to check my camera up high, I kept running out of time to check the one down low. I wish I had checked it sooner but it came with a pretty cool story when I got to it on Friday. I set it up 6-20-15. Over several days later a bear knocks it around and off original aim. Got a nice bull with the new view that comes back a few times, eventually knocking the camera around himself. Had a few does run by and a sow and her cub playing there several days in a row. More camera molesting over several days. More bears playing with each other and the camera. Ended up getting a few elk crossing in the distance. I think the bears like this spot, several more camera contacts as well. Ended up with a ton of WT does and a fawn buck which is promising, I'm hoping bigger bucks were hitting the salt unpictured. This handsome little guy visits this spot or the high spot nearly every day since last fall, seems he is alone a lot too. dang pigs are on every camera, everywhere I put them. Small bull decides to hang out for a few days and eventually knock the camera into position, 4 days before I returned after 11 months!! Bears are back. Notice the second one in the background. Bull, does and buck fawn still around the day I finally checked the camera. Needless to say, I put the camera 8 feet up the tree, and focused on the salt. I'll check it in early august and share back. Also, big props to the cheap Moultrie A5. The batteries still had plenty of juice after 11 months and over 25 contacts with critters messing with it!! All my Moultrie's have been great to me.

Sorry for the pun, kazpilot25. Hope you shoot your monster! My brother and great buddy just put a hurtin on a couple spikes. Both first timers. We watched a group of bigger bucks spar with each other 30 minutes into shooting light, and as we relocated to close in, we came across 2 spikes at 128 yards. Bang bang. Back at camp celebrating with a cold Bud in hand. I'm proud of these guys as they practiced relentlessly and were prepared for the long shot, but thankfully they didn't need it. Gutless method got the heat out of the bucks quick, now they're boned out in coolers and we have 2 life-long hunters. Good luck to the rest of you guys and gals, what a great time of the year!

Is Trump Already Making Deer Hunting Great Again? (pics)

Great buck, congrats! -
Sweet! Congrats on the bucks gentlemen!

Foot switch would probably help, but the control of the hand crank works better than any on/off device. Especially with the stuffer mounted in place.
-
I've got the 5lb LEM stuffer and I much prefer it over the grinder attachment. I wouldn't say it simplifies the process, but it does help with quality control.

Looking for 5-6000 cheap pieces to slowly be reloaded over time for a 1:9 AR. I found Hornady 55 gr FMJ or SP for the same price @ $0.07/bullet. Thoughts on FMJ vs. SP? Other bullet considerations and recommendations are welcome, thank you!

I was recently given an older but great quality Sage fly rod in excellent condition in a 5 weight, 8' 6" length, DS model. Unfortunately, I now have three 5 weights and all are 8' 6" in length. In some research I found these rods are not Sage's top of the line, but are still very respectable and highly regarded rods. It is likely valued in the $175+ range. I'm looking to trade the Sage rod, in nearly perfect condition, for a comparable rod in a different weight and/or length. i.e. 6-7wt for river bass and streamer fishing, or a 4wt for smaller creeks/fish. Please let me know what you have if interested. I don't really want to sell it but will entertain offers. Located in Mesa/Tempe. Thank you!
