    Lighted Nocks

I'm interested in hearing reasons of why CWT archers use or do not use a lighted nock in their hunting applications. I use them on every hunting arrow in my quiver after I've practiced and tested them along with my broadheads in the weeks leading up to the hunt. Here are a couple experiences that made me a believer. Please share yours, positive or negative! A few years ago I had a late archery hunt and moved in on what I thought was a small herd of cows with a couple raghorns mixed in. I ended up being in a herd of 60+ feeding elk and after a couple hours of crawling around them to keep the wind in my favor, I finally made it to my mark of 60 yards from a good 6x6 bedded on the fringe of the herd. I released an arrow at what I would consider the last possible moment the light of day would allow. Unfortunately, my arrow stuck in the dirt over a foot below the bulls belly, albeit perfect left/right. The lighted nock was the only reason I knew I missed, and because I missed so badly, when the bull stood up and looked around after the first shot, I elected not to shoot again. Turns out, after taking a 30 yard practice shot the next morning in camp to see what happened, I shot the bottom of the target eventually running another arrow into the dirt. On the stalk that day, I distinctly remember my bow getting caught on a branch as I slipped down the wet hillside. The peep caught a branch and was pulled down an 1/8". From this tough I experience, in addition to marking my bow string with a sharpie where the peep is supposed to be in the event it ever moves again, I knew with 100% certainty I was a fan of the lighted nock. Although I didn't get the bull, and the second shot could have been perfect, I really believe I saved a wounded bull and a crappy hunting experience.. Since that elk hunt, I've arrowed a few critters. From arrows passing through the animal and sticking in the dirt behind them, or bouncing off a rock and entering the next canyon, lighted nocks have helped me make better decisions in the heat of the moment. I know they're an expensive addition to an already expensive arrow, but IMO, those moments/decisions are worth the $10. What about you?

    New Reloader Questions

Right on guys, I'm fully satisfied with anything <= .75 MOA, and would be tickled pink if I can approach .5. I think for now the only variable I should change is shooting distance. I'll take the shooting out to 300 yards. Since I can't change the weather, I'm thinking I should sight in and stick with this RL22 load for a year, and pay close attention to temperature in regards to accuracy and velocity. I can play on the side and move on if needed. I saw H1000 and Retumbo pop up a lot when researching load development, also Ramshot Magnum specific to the 7mm. But then there are about 5 more that come highly recommended too!! lol - this is the fun everyone who reloads was telling me about!

    New Reloader Questions

Thank you, Hoss and WampusCat, great suggestions on powder that I will definitely look into. And although a significant portion of velocity stuff is beyond my current level and desire to pursue for this coming fall, it is much appreciated and I will take it into consideration.

    New Reloader Questions

I completely agree, I meant to convey I don't use each dot at 300, 400, 500 but what they actually represent based on shooting experience. Thank you very much for the tip on at least 0.010" off the lands, I'm assuming because in you hunting you load and unload often. Never thought of that, good stuff. Good info, thank you. Do you still load LRABs or have you moved on?

    Javelina points

The only fall hunts in 2016 other than the youth you mentioned are OTC tags for the mountain (low density) units. The best units are the ones you are familiar with or have time to scout. Javelina are funny creatures in the way they can be here and gone, some people can find them every time they look and some people have more trouble with them than coues deer. Here are last year's 2015 regs with hunt numbers. https://repository.asu.edu/attachments/140974/content/2015%20springregs.pdf Here is the bonus point report for the general 1-2 pass in 2015. https://www.azgfd.com/PortalImages/files/hunting/draw/bonusPts/12_2014/2015%20Spring%20-%20Bonus%20Point%20Report%20-%201-2%20Pass%20by%20Hunt%20Number.pdf You can get 2 points/year. My archery javelina hunt of choice takes 4 points to draw in the bonus pass. I really like having this tag in my pocket as it coincides with archery deer, so I buy the fall point, put in for the spring draw/point, have a hunters education point and a loyalty point to total 4 points and guarantee the draw bonus pass.

    Things That Make Me Happy

My wife and my dog make me happy, and so do ducks with their wings locked and feet out, bucks anywhere in sight, and the sound of reel drag. Nice thread!

    Replacing an Accutrigger

Thank you all very much. I'd have to say both, but is far more the feeling of depressing the trigger blade to meet the trigger.
  18. I searched quite a bit in the forum and I couldn't come up with enough to get to a conclusion so here it is. I shoot a Savage 110 with an accutrigger in 7mm RM. I don't have issue with pull/adjustment, and it's relatively crisp - I just don't love it, especially the feeling of the 2 piece blade/trigger. For $99 - http://www.midwayusa.com/product/374640/timney-rifle-trigger-savage-10-through-16-110-through-116-210-accutrigger-15-to-4-lb-blue I've been toying around with the idea of getting a Timney. I've shot a few rifles with them installed and have always shot with confidence, being left intrigued. Anyone swapped from Accutrigger to Timney in a similar rifle, thoughts? Thanks in advance.

    What happened to Long Lake?

I don't know if I would laugh at them but I would agree there are far more factors involved than drought alone. Population and groundwater pumping increases come to mind but I'm no expert, what are you referring to, Joe?

Thank you, sir. Although I have never had a camera stolen, I understand it's only a matter of time, and I feel your frustration and hate thieves much the same. I hope you have better luck with your cameras in the future and I look forward to following your new thread.

The Black Sure isn't What it used to be

The Black River was that 'guys trip' my dad would always attend every year, that I couldn't go on for years more until I was ready. It was a place that helped made me get good grades and be a good boy without even seeing it. "Catching fish 'til your elbows hurt," and "so many fish you can't count 'em," he'd say. I still get the chills when I think of George Strait's "The Best Day" and how my dad taking me for the first time made me feel. I lost track of how many fish I caught the first morning I was there. We didn't see another soul. I started to see it coming as I went every year after that first trip in '98 until the wallow fire in '11. I thought it would just be a break and that it could be good for the river to get a clean slate and keep the people out for a few years. Unfortunately, I was very wrong. I've heard the fishing has picked back up from our family friends that still go, but I can't bring myself to corrupt the finest fishing memories I have with what you've described. I've now been going to Lees Ferry a couple times every spring/summer for something (completely) different, which I understand is nowhere near what it was to others 20 years ago. I wish I was there for that, too. Crazy.
