Beyond the quality of time spent with family and friends, how do you justify hunting to the non-hunters around you? Do you use any interesting facts or put any science behind it?
-
Well, to be fair, they have options! According to rule (R12-4-118), the department has several options for the reissuance of a surrendered hunt permit-tag. The proximity to the start of a particular hunt, the type of hunt permit-tag, and demand for that hunt permit-tag will factor into how it will be reissued.
-
so maybe the year i get called on a returned tag, do i have to make a split decision over the phone 2 weeks out from a trophy hunt? Nope, 1 day. First bullet. Here is the process to surrender a hunt permit-tag: A hunt permit-tag must be surrendered prior to the close of business the day before the start of that particular hunt.

Congratulations on all accounts!
-
Agreed. This time, with no sarcasm, my apologies.
-
That is definitely an angle I wasn't approaching yet, thank you! And Hatchet Jack, I don't know much about Steve but it sounds like a must watch, thanks!

I can see 'justification' being a poor word choice when looked at in detail but the principle is there. If I was talking about my friends or a stranger on the street, I wouldn't need to 'justify' anything. But in my corporate environment, with a speaking opportunity on a topic that should be controversial and supported with facts and figures, I'm doing it from a justification standpoint. Clearly I have to be more careful with my word choice! Great insight from many of you, thanks!

And you also don't help the perception of the hunting community with your ignorance. What ignorance would that be? I screwed up and meant arrogance about your $0.02, my apologies there oz. You and the people you hang out with sound like you're up there pretty high, like an anti's polar opposite, like the people who can't be talked to, and this post was clearly aimed to make progress on the middle ground.

Completely agree, guys. I did specifically use the words non-hunter. Let's assume we are talking to individuals who are open to listening and reasoning, not Anti's. I'm looking to get perspective in a professional manner, as I have an opportunity to address a significant number of folks of which most wish to understand. I was hoping to capture a few points in my speech I wouldn't have thought of myself.

Dec Coues in 22 With 10 Points
CouesPursuit replied to AZMThunter's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
Tagging onto your question as it relates to you, I wonder if these units will be quite as desirable as recent years with the archery hunters running around.. Part of the appeal to these units have been knowing there were only 50 others out chasing.. IMO. -
I agree JLW. I couldn't sit and read through everything but I like what I checked out first!! Also, I use the quote in your signature on a nearly weekly basis, great stuff!

HUGE public land sale Cochise co / South Willcox
CouesPursuit replied to elkaholic's topic in Classified Ads
No sir, I was just suggesting that because more people are aware of this auction, there would probably be more FFL holders bidding... LOL... Another user asked what an FFL was and then deleted his comment, could be part of the confusion. Elkaholic, cool site thanks for sharing. -
Can't say enough about my experience and confidence in VAPs, but that wasn't what the OP was asking, so I'll rephrase and say definitely look into the small diameter Axis arrows.
-
Also a huge fan of the GD's. 100gr. COC.
-
Great arrows and price!! If they were 2 inches longer I'd be all over them. Good luck with the sale!

In 8-10 visits, I can't recall a single time we didn't see multiple herds of pronghorn on the way to Socorro/Bosque, day or night. Good luck.

I love the fact that your labs are a part of the hunt. Nice video and bull.
-
Which one do you use and for what broadheads? In particular, I blew a coc grave digger through a javelina, it's still in great shape but could use sharpening. I can't see any of the well-reviewed sharpeners being ideal. Can anyone point me in the right direction? I also shoot 3 blade muzzys and would like a solution for both. Thank you!

I use micro SD cards with adapters and transfer pictures onto my phone's internal memory at the camera site, then I have a backup too.

I've been very pleased shooting VAP V6's the last few years. No elk yet, but have shot 7 deer/pigs with 7 pass-throughs, 5 of which were with an old Bear bow pushing 29" arrows at ~ 250fps. Last week I built 2 more dozen but went with the VAP Elites (the new V1). I prefer the 92gr stainless steel inserts as the aluminum inserts do tend to bend and the SS significantly increases FOC. They produce by far the best groups I've shot in 10 years of archery.

I recommend a couple different battery options to increase your on-board capacity if your boat has room for them. Get another 12v or even 2 more 12v deep cycles and wire them up in a parallel sequence. This is in addition to and separate from the main 12v that runs the boat and appliances. Another option is to get the full size 6v batteries that are used in golf carts, wire two of them in a series sequence to make 12v. Agreeing with Yotebuster, solar trickle chargers aren't going to cut it unless they are topping off an already decently charged battery and they can sit on the charger all day back at camp while not being used. I wouldn't want to leave a generator back at camp, especially one that's running, just me.

Awesome info, I researched the same on Rage QC, and bought another 3 pack last year that haven't let me down. I can only imagine they lend to a higher recovery percentage and fewer wounded animals, I've seen some folks on a couple other sites I frequent come on and ask for support to allow them in CO and keep them legal in ID. Never saw anyone contend that support. Can anyone shed light on the unfair advantage?
