    Bird dog help please

It's not the only way to have a successful bird dog but if you decide to get a dog and train it yourself, your best bet is get a good pedigree dog of your choice as close to 49 days of age a possible, and get a DVD program and read a few books about the particular type of dog you want. I assume by your posts on the site you are looking for an upland hunting dog. I'm sure it is possible to rescue a dog and train it to retrieve birds but you could have a lot of bad habit undoing on your hands, the dog could have developed a fear that inhibits proper handling and/or the trust relationship that's required, etc. Lastly you can buy a trained gun dog or training for it, but it's going to cost you and it's my opinion the experience of training is well worth it! Good luck, it's hard to describe the greatness of the overall experience. I also think your wife will forgive you if you buy a puppy and let her hold it as soon as they meet.

Scout. Get to the hunting grounds well before legal shoot time. Set up "the spread," by placing decoys of varying species and number to create as much realism as possible with the intention of directing birds into shooting distance or, "the hole" you would like to see the birds lands in. Set up a place to hide really well near "the hole," whether you build your own "blind" on the spot with native vegetation, have a layout blind (like hunting out of a coffin), a boat blind setup, whatever it takes. Drake has his own place in the boat blind. Obviously it still requires effort and some degree of scouting, but jumping tanks is like road hunting deer in my opinion. Not passing any judgement on how others enjoy shooting game, but at least for me, there is a much different reward felt for outsmarting critters into their demise instead of coming across them and pulling the trigger.

Obviously no ATL when the dog found it! Thanks for letting me know as clearly, I didn't know! Haha

Personally, I love water swatting ducks. Right after they decoy into the spread and right before my retriever brings them back. I'm a waterfowl slob and snob, to each their own. And back on track - Here is my most prized bird from this season, an amazing shot by my wife that soared crippled way over the pond, with an even more amazing retrieve by Drake after 31 other birds and 2 long days of hunting, through the most physically demanding conditions my dog has faced in his 5 years. Best thing I've read in the thread, It's not the bird it's the experience.

    Lee's Ferry Advice

It's all nymph fishing with the cicada hatch as the only exception in July. It fishes all year. However, there aren't many walk in options upriver from the launch. It is a by boat fishery only for valuable fly fishing in my opinion. Spin fishing the walk in area may be another story, but it's basically a deep slow run.

I'm still woodduckless. I have seen them shot next to me and fly by just out of range, but haven't pulled the trigger on one yet. Til next year! Good Luck!

Seriously, I hope you're all good. My Antelope went through without issue but my elk app is in limbo somewhere.

I was hoping the bandit emoji showed I was messing with him a bit. I will say 5 ducks of that caliber on the same "one jump shot pond," is intriguing yet slightly skeptical. Well done, idgaf, would love to see a picture!

Check your bank account and see if you got hit for more than you're supposed to. I had the same thing and ended up getting charged 3 times and was then sent 3 email confirmations. After 14 days, I still haven't been fully refunded, I'm told I'm not in the draw database as of last week, and they needed a week for the supervisor to figure it out. I'm still waiting.

Drake's first find was my favorite. Dog would have eaten the entire thing in one night if I didn't take it away eventually.

Passed on big buck. Right move?

When I stalked in on my first little harvested mule buck, and as he was following a doe and finally came to a stop, I distinctly remember thinking "Oh my, I finally have a deer at 40 yards, and there is nothing in my way!" 95% of archers who have been successful have a deflected arrow story that came first. Great call, not worth the risk.

    Brown trout

Lees Ferry, although a totally different animal than your examples, is a perfect case of a fishery that needs every legal fish (<14") harvested if anglers ever want chances at the monsters again.

Successfully? I keep getting this on the final payment click. 1-20-2016 12-42-18 PM.jpg Looks like I'll wait a few days. Just did antelope successfully, but I was charged 3 times yesterday for 1 elk app. Contacted the department today and they will remove 2 charges and recommended I call tomorrow to verify I made it in to the sportsmans (draw) database for the third. Not a big deal as long as everything pans out, this is the first issue I have had with the draw in the decade I've been applying, just wanted to give an update in case anyone has the same issue. Good luck!
