That definitely makes the most sense but I still wonder how other land scavengers weren't attracted to the site after enough avian scavengers were swooping down and feasting! Crazy to imagine what that live buck experienced regardless!

Overall it seems like a great broadhead besides a couple concerns. Can anyone who has used the Ulmer Edge give additional information. To answer your question about the blades swiveling after hitting bone...my broadhead hit ribs going in and on the far side. The chisel tip was dinged up and one of the blades had a chip in it. When I got the broadhead out, the blades were locked open and it still swivels just like new. I have read about guys saying they look just like new and using them again but mine didn't, and I wouldn't reuse it. UlmerEdge head as it lay after a pass through on a medium-bodied Coues buck. It appears to be 100% reusable after breaking ribs on the entry and breaking the humerus on exit. Swivels just like new. Exit wound measured 5" at it's widest but in the shape of a triangle. Maybe because of humerus busting?? Wicked wound regardless, not comparable to my muzzy experience. Muzzy experience was great though, NOT knocking it. Just smaller holes and lighter blood trail. Both bucks expired within 75 yards. I'll reiterate I understand bulls and bucks are not exactly comparable and still yet I have confidence in both broadheads.

Bump this thread once for swimming pool issues with warm weather on the way. PM me for free advice on anything related to your pool's cleanliness or equipment functionality. Stay cool, CWT!

I enjoy how controversial it is. The comments on shot placement and sharp blades are spot on. I choose the ulmer as my mechanical because of its double sided sharpness, lock open design (sure others lock as well), and amazing accuracy in my experience regardless of arrow and tune. Confidence, another spot on piece of advice. One thing is for sure, I hope every archery hunter pays more attention to practicing shot placement and keeping their composure moreso than broadheads and rig flare. Let's spend more time recovering these magnificant critters. Good luck to all in 2014 in all their big game endeavors!

This decision is already haunting me at T-minus 211 days. I had both a muzzy mx3 and ulmer edge perform exactly as desired in the last 6 months. Both were on deer however, which isn't quite comparable to a bull except for shot placement, which is #1 and my first priority. My plan is to tune my muzzys as best as possible with my newly acquired dozen arrows and fall back on the ulmers for accuracy if needed, any thoughts? I am shooting 400+ gr VAPs at 280FPS. Thanks in advance.

Not a huge cat fisherman but I do know to start with good bait live blue gill live or cut carp if you bait up with live bream shave off one side of its scales, will cause it to swim in circles and will help keep it from hiding in a rock or other piece of structure. Good luck!

Same experience here. Thanks for sharing on the Scopecoat.

Introduced my lab to gunfire in same manner as speedygoss. Additionally, at 9 months old on the dove opener, I laid his bowl down to feed him in the desert at first light and walked away 100 yards as he was eating and fired away from his direction. He came running over, I praised him, let him go back to his bowl, and fired again. That was it, he loves loud bangs and food.

I've looked through all 3. They are priced accordingly. The Vultures are not the Vipers, and the Vipers are not the Kaibabs. IMO If I knew I wasn't going to be looking through them all day, the price tag fits that purpose pretty dang good. Still Vortex and still good glass.

Always thought about it but it sounded like a game violation to me. Upon checking, guess not. Page 127 of Regs: 4. 5. and specifically 6. Those are G&F regs however, not sure how the federal land agencies would feel about it unless you added water to a natural rock formation, they would surely not be happy with any pouring of a concrete hole or littering water containers. I do wonder how long it would take for game to find it and use it routinely though.. And how difficult it would be to keep it full.. Somebody out there is doing it I'm sure, if it's legal hopefully they share..

Funny, I drew tag 187 and I'm thinking an archery elk homicide is in the making. Regardless of the 666 you are elk hunting and that's good news! Good Luck.

After several days of chasing the hit list developed on the August 13 hunt- I finally caught up with buck #4. Although he is clearly the smallest, he eluded me 3 days in January living up to his and his pals reputations. http://www.coueswhitetail.com/forums/topic/42696-advice-please-weary-mature-coues-bucks/?hl=%2Badvice+%2Bplease+%2Bcoues+%2Bweary He came in ornery with his chest up high and alert from 125 yards south of my stand. He closed 125 down to 25 in 20 seconds and stops completely out of sight. I'm left with 2-3 minutes of anticipation to make sure he won't vanish. The wind was perfect, the birds and the squirrels were masking the sound of my heartbeat, and his antlers finally poked through the oaks beside me. I was standing, ready to draw, but behind his antlers came his eyes staring straight up at me. As I let him pass beneath me at 3 yards, I repositioned myself and the stand makes the slightest sound. He is on full alert, facing the same position as hitlist buck 3 in his photo. After letting him pass those couple extra yards, I drew and released my 400 gr. VAP tipped with an UlmerEdge. I drilled him no more than an inch high of my mark. After watching the look on his face paired with great blood on his exit side, it became real. I just arrowed my first Coues buck! The now bright red arrow shaft was laying 8 yards from the base of the tree, after the pass through. The UlmerEdge head opened and locked open as designed. I followed a consistent blood trail for 75 yards and found his right crabclaw broken from his death run after I arrowed him. He was missing an eyeguard which I would like to believe was broken from battles with his double main beam buddy, hitlist buck 1. My DIY, 2014 archery Coues buck. Entry- Exit- "Backpack Deer"-

I had this Gerber given to me as a Christmas gift several years ago. I don't hang a or climb in a tree stand without it. http://www.amazon.com/Gerber-22-41420-Gator-Combo-Axe/dp/B000C0RKYM/ref=sr_1_1?s=lawn-garden&ie=UTF8&qid=1396904669&sr=1-1&keywords=gerber+axe

Stripers and gar kept then from getting out of hand. They have no predator in Roosevelt once they mature. They are an issue due to competition. They spawn at nearly the same time as bass crappie and bluegill and they consume the same food sources i.e. zooplankton. They are extremely prolific and not catchable or edible. Most importantly, they have a huge impact on threadfin shad populations which are the main prey for catchable size game fish. Also in general just a waste of resources in a lake that is over 100 years old and hasn't had a great nutrient intake in the last couple years (runoff).
-
The idea is that the larger subspecies of Florida Strain LMB will decline the population of growing/juvenile gizzard shad in the lake by direct consumption. The mature gizzard shad are too large for even the Florida st. bass to consume, but if they can get a handle on maturing gizzard shad, the already mature gizzard shad will reach life expectancy and kill themselves off as many anglers have witnessed in the last couple years (floating fish). It is hard to believe that the introduced Florida st. bass won't consume the bass crappie and bluegill as you described but getting a handle on the gizzard shad population first is key, followed by habitat enhancements that will get the other sport fish back into good numbers in time. I would also agree that large flatheads enjoy their share of gizzard shad and mature size is not an issue, but the number of adult gizzard shad to large flatheads is not comparable.

Smallest deer ever!
CouesPursuit replied to Hunter Rath's topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer
I was hoping when I clicked on the thread it started with a photo. Hunter, any chance the horses had an effect on how small a few coues does would look? -
Sounds like a great way to scout for an upcoming elk hunt!

Any update? You boys gonna throw some new paint on any decoys in the off season?

Never said it was her "fault", in fact clearly stated the guy was an idiot too - but I'll stick to my opinion all day that she is dang idiot. Videotaping an aggressive driver after it's rained? One hand on the wheel? Fast lane? Clearly on purpose? She had a lot of time to get over. My mother and the future mother of my children know better.
-
The female driver is an idiot. Keep right except to pass, It's the law. Instead, she instigates, videotapes behind her, has plenty of time to get in the right lane and never does. Yea the guy is an idiot as well, no need to yell at her and give her the finger when he did finally get by, but first and foremost the lady recording is dang idiot.

I am seeking an experienced welder's services for trade. ALL expenses paid, using the finished product (16.5 foot aluminum bass tracker), I would like to take the welder and their guest (1) on a full days worth of duck hunting or crappie fishing (whichever is preferred). The weld: I don't know much about it, other than aluminum requires lower heat and TIG or MIG welding, but I have 2 cracks in one of the keels at the bottom of my boat where there was some rubbing on the trailer. I can take photos and will add them to this post but I wanted to get a feeler out there in case the duck hunting option is enticing for someone. We'll need to get the keel fixed ASAP to take advantage of some cold January ducks if that's the case. Note: I would be more than happy to change ducks/crappie for other species, however I am most proficient in harvesting them specifically in comparison to others. Feel free to ask any questions from here, thanks for any interest.
