Old school is still best for many people.

Something in a short action would be better as a youth gun. While a great round it drifted into obscurity with fewer and fewer offerings in rifles and it can be problematic to find factory ammo.

Levi is easy to deal with. I bought one from him last year.

They are in the Herring family, very boney but supposedly good to eat and the roe too. They probably taste better when the water is cold. I would think that they would be good canned like a sardine. They can get pretty big.

No. Not until the 15th. Per the nice people at the Heber Ranger District. I call every year, I just wish G&F didn't already stock it and would wait a until the week after.

Those were sweet. A customer who was a facilities director bought one when they first came out and brought it to work, back in the day when nobody cared. I hate the 1911 design but If I wasn't in the process of buying some property in Louisiana I'd snatch it up. -
I can see why you're confused. J.M. Barrie probably would be confused too seeing Mary Martin in those green tights.

What is the highest velocity caliber?
PRDATR replied to RichardJCross's topic in Long Range Shooting
When I started getting heavy into reloading in about 88 I bought an Ohler 35P which really was a big help. I have tons of powder, bullets and primers I have hoarded over the years and should really break out my presses and build a bench to get back into it. I used to back my 78 GMC up to the Silhouette range at Rio and do load developement right there. Of course it wasn't much more that the main rainge and the practical pistol range was just getting started. There was just one range master back then and we would call the range cease fires our selves. It wasn't until a years later when some dude capped himself and then a couple of years later when the range masters called the range hot with guys downrange still comming back from setting targets up at the 300 yard line that they started all the restrictions. -
What is the highest velocity caliber?

The 1000 ft pounds has always gotten a lot of traction. I'd say it is a great benchmark but as you said bullet construction goes a long ways. I will say that the Bergers i have seen, 7 Rem Mag HSM with a 168 are explosive at 500 yards on Elk. Way too much in my opinion. I did see an Elk hit with a 147 Hornady from a 6.5 PRC take just one round at 885 yards and it went maybe 20' DRT. So that energy was under 1K'#'s, just barely though. At the Creed velocity the energy probably drops below 1K'#'s at around 750 yards. Just a guess since I don't have a ballistics program. Maybe someone with one could run the numbers. The Creed should have around 16 pounds of recoil where the faster PRC is about 5 pounds more since it's about 300fps faster. -
Check with the local High School Wood Shop.

I bought the Axis Compact in 243 back in early 2017. One of the holes for the scope mounts wasn't threaded properly so I sent it back. When I got it back they had mounted some cheapy bases on it so I took them off and put on some LW Talleys and mounted a Zeiss Terra I had bought a year or so earlier for about $175 that was on clearance. I also took the stock off and recentered the action as one side of the barrel was tight against it. Off to the range with some factory ammo and soon discovered that the factory 6 pound trigger had to go so I ordered a Rifle Basix from ER Brown for another $90. While I was waiting for it I sent the bolt to LRI and had it fluted as my goal was to have a light compact rifle for Javelina and Coyotes. The trigger was a 10 minute install and while the rifle doesn't drive tacks it does well under MOA with factory ammo. All told I'm probably into it for north of $600.

I have an Axis and will say there are better rifles out there for about the same cost.
