Wife and I did it with some of my coworkers who have done it multiple times. We arrived late afternoon and spent the night in the parking lot. Got up early and hiked in and packed light. It was a long time ago, probably 1996 or so. IIRC we spent one or two nights down there and hiked out starting about 4:30 PM and slept on the trail just about out of the canyon. It was a year or two after a big flood so the pools weren't so picturesque. We got up at first light and hiked to the top and were there by about 6:30. This was over 4th of July. One cool thing Lou and I did was hike into a cave that was by the campground. He said he never knew it was there and had camped there a bunch of times. I took a small pup tent and during the night something wet landed on my face, turned out to be a tree frog. No idea how it got into the tent.

It's a great hike, highly recommend it.

Get a stock that fits you. Take the rifle and grasp it, close your eyes and shoulder it. Get comfortable then open your eye and see what the sight picture is.

Is the blueing all worn on the part below the barrel? What is the serial number range since it's a dash?

I saw three or so officers standing up on the hill at eh side of the road looking over there but didn't know what they were looking at. Thought maybe a manhunt was getting underway. Looks like a Liberty Mutual commercial.

Was that on the 260 last thursday? I was on my way from the Rim into Payson and there were a bunch of LE vehicles from different agencies parked on the side of the road and more on their way from Payson.

Same problem I have. Nobody wants to get up early to fish with the old man so I go solo 90% of the time. Been twice this year up north and biggest was 13" which is the norm for the lakes I fish. I smoked the last few I caught so they will be my lunch tomorrow.

Tuned or have the speedo recalibrated? What truck and engine. OSTS is a reputable shop.

Looking at a 2.5 day on the Legend out of H&M if anyone has some input on the captain that would be great.

Well it's officially on. My son told me today he has the 4th off so the search just got real. Maybe a multi day trip. Suggestions are welcome, we want to go primarily for tuna, not yellowtail.

Off topic, I saw a bull yesterday morning that had about 6" brow tines and 24" backs.

FYI, These were made in 2000, so 19 years old.

Looks like I have a chance to get out tomorrow. Plan on leaving Mesa by 2:00AM. Is the Dennys in Payson 24 hours?Would be nice to get some eggs and coffee. I figure I can be up on the Young Rd by 4:30 or should I leave earlier?

Breakfast in Dennys at 4AM and at Canyon Creek just after 5. Only had one vocal Tom that was about 800 yards away. I got to about 450 yards and had to drop down and cross the Creek which I chose not to do. I'll come back in another week with spare boots. I did see a Tom and hens driving Valentine Ridge but he wasn't sticking around.

I would start with a good stock. In mid 2007 maybe 2008 my only daughter passed suddenly of heart failure just weeks before her 19th birthday. Put me in a deep funk I wish on no one. I wanted a lightweight rifle and looked at a Kimber. The stock didn't fit me well and ended up with a T3 but not after I did some late night research and even then the accuracy was very, very hit and miss, pun intended. I really liked the looks of the Kimber and could have got it well below dealer cost but passed.

When it's windy fish deeper, and keep your line tight. This can be a tough time of year to catch in the high country, must be persistent and change lures every 20 casts, speed retrieve and depth as fish are either on the move or pooled up. Two weekends ago I hiked into Woods Canyon and managed three fish in 4 hours, fishing two poles.
