Question on S/A Medalist Bell and Carlson or HS precision pro Rem 700
PRDATR replied to bonecollector777's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
And that right there has me rethinking the B&C Alaskan in favor of an HS. The thumbhole I had many years ago was a great stock and it had some castoff which let my eye align perfect with the scope. -

7mm-08 vs 6.5 creedmoor

I miss that guy!!!!! Funniest story there was in CWT for the reason he left!!! He bailed a few years before that and took a hiatus. Maybe we can ressurect him under the moniker of Highway 270. Pretty sure Casey could pull it off. -
BDL will be more convienent to unload, will weigh a tad more. I have an ADL and after almost 25 years I am looking at a B&C Alaskan. Not sure about the Stockey CF but there should be no issue with a wood stock. If it's pillar bedded I wouldn't waste time or money doing a bedding job.

I put one on my sons Tikka a couple of years ago and paid a whole lot more than that from Sportsmans. The clarity is unreal, better than the Zeiss HD I had bought the year before.

7mm-08 vs 6.5 creedmoor
PRDATR replied to bonecollector777's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
Some guns can be finicky, the one I had was the factory heavy 24" Varmint Special, 9 1/4 twist. The only bullet that shot poor were some 140 PMC soft nose. They were almost 2" at 100 yards so I shelved them. A year later I Ioaded some up in my 7Mag and they grouped under an inch. Guess they just need a couple of hundred FPS more. I mostly used 748 and 4064 in the 08 IIRC and then later 760 for the 168's. -
7mm-08 vs 6.5 creedmoor

I handloaded the 7-08 for a bunch or years from 100gr up to 168. It is a very forgiving cartridge and accurate but if you are only looking at factory ammo I personally would learn towards the Creed. Higher BC par for par energy. I probably shot somewhere in the neighborhood of 3500 handloads in the 7-08 I had. -
You can click on Ignore Signature and it won't show up any more.

Remington 700 BDL .243 Leupold 4x.......SOLD
PRDATR replied to Winchester_72's topic in Classified Ads
Someone should buy it. It would make a great project rifle if someone wanted to spend the time to strip the stock and do a nice oil finish. -
My friend inherited a Lab when his buddy past away in a car accident with his girlfriend in California back in about 1988 That was one of the smartest dog I have ever seen. Bob would just get his attention and move his fingers and Gunner would get down and crawl. He was close to 100 pounds with huge head, didn't like other male dogs and munched a few Pitts and a GSD when he lived in Laveen. Other than that he was an excellent dog, loved to fetch to the point it got annoying. He had more personality than most people and when my daughter was in 4th grade she took him to school for Show and Tell. Bob thinks Tom got him from Kellogg Kennels because he would point. He would also run from bush to bush when hunting up quail and when he had to poop he had a strange habit of backing up into a bush to do his business. He was one heck of a dog though, never be another one like him.

He has this one....download (1).jpg wait, even better. You need to make that your Avatar. I know a guy who makes custom mudflaps and that could be the weights.

Depends what your objective is and how capable of a marksman you are. Now some will say you aren't a hunter if you don't spend $6K on a rig, and work up loads 30 hours a week. Plenty of over the counter rifles perfectly capable of out shooting their owners putting meat in the pot, if you're up to it, for reasonable cost, less braggin rights.

Do you have any targets that show groups? What's the trigger like?

Two New Rifle Upgrades Coming Soon To An Addict Near You...
PRDATR replied to lancetkenyon's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
if you install a lighter firing pin with a stiffer spring the pain accelerates faster when the trigger is pulled reducing lock time. This reduces the time you have available to wiggle the rifle and screw up a shot. True, but after years of shooting High Power Silhouette with a stock 700 pin and spring I never felt handicapped. I almost tore down a 788 to build but lack of a decent trigger at the time prevented it but that type of shooting is really so much more about the ability of the shooter than lock time. From what I've recently heard the lowly Savage Axis has the fastest lock time out there now. -
Buy that 7-08 Adam. I have dies somewhere from my silhouette days you can have.
