    Learning to cape

You Tube is a good source of videos but to get good at it just takes practice. Here is one I found searching the Web, http://www.mikestaxidermyartistry.com/caping-a-deer/
  2. I have always been under the same understanding. On a separate note, did the regs say it was illegal to harvest an animal with a radio-collar? If so, I ever knew that. No. Harvest is ok they just want you to return the collar.
  3. All of the usual places now have them in stock.

    Dove Hunting

Personally I'd like to see the season open up a week or 10 days earlier so everyone north of Tucson has more opportunity on White Wings.
  5. I've been watching the reports for a month or so but the catches are too low for me to anty up the coin to go. Maybe in another month or in September is the bite stays consistent.

WW, Why jump to that conclusion? The OP just asked a simple question and may just want to share info the camera owner or asked where he bought the camera box.

Was that the area around the Ponderosa Camp Ground? I think it was closed for a few weeks.

    It's a Bobcat track.

    Unit 23 Turkey Tag

Turkey's like to water a couple of times a day so hunt areas with water. Look for tracks and poop and they like to roost in Ponderosa's and Walnut and Ash Trees.

    Spotting scope for sale

That's too good to pass up. I'll take it.
  14. In my opinion there is not much difference between the 243 and the 257 Roberts. I have shot thousands of 7-08 rounds when I was a silhouette shooter and it is more than adequate for anything you will encounter in Arizona including Elk as long as you choose a good bullet and keep the shot distance reasonable.

I'd like the pack, if anyone is headed between Tucson and PHX.
  16. If you want to get a youth rifle that he will keep and later be able to use as an adult I'd get a Howa. One thing I would also do is to get an inexpensive 4X scope with 4" of eye relief and let him use that for a few years before using a variable power scope. Kids will creep up on the stock and with a 4X there is nothing for them to adjust and he will have a consistent sight picture every time he shoulders the rifle. If you can find a 4x32 with a 1" tube then mount it with low rings so it is easier for him to align his eye with his cheek on the stock without having to raise his head up. http://www.cabelas.com/product/Howa-Youth-Two-Stock-Scope-Combo/1367661.uts

    Are there Lynx in AZ?

There are probably a few IN SOMEONES TROPHY ROOM. But AZ is way to south of their range.

    Spotting Scope/Bino Advice

A spotting scope will come into play when you want to see something that your binoculars don't have the power to see enough details to make either a game animal or object out. Bino's in the 8-10 power will make out details up to 300-500 yards depending on their quality and the time of day and available light. 10x50 or 8x42 is about right for use without a tripod. Higher magnification requires a tripod if you are going to look at something for longer than 20 seconds or you will get some fatigue and shaking which is why most people use tripods. The higher you go up in magnification the smaller the area you are actually looking at gets, commonly referred to Field Of View (FOV). The downside of a spotting scope is you will get eye strain and a headache if you spend a long time looking through it, say two or three minutes at a time. This won't happen with bino's. The plus side is at 20X or 60X you will see a lot more detail, but be aware just because the power is high that doesn't mean that you will actually be able to see what you are looking at in detail if you buy a lower end spotter. Also if you see a deer on 30X that is 1500 yards away it is going to take you a while to get there. In your price range I would look at Nikon and Vortex binos. Optics Planet dot com is a good place to do research and then call Doug or Neil at Camerland dot com as they are a sponsor. If you can spend the most you can afford on binos (Buy once, cry once). Another option is to rent the high end optics if and when you draw a tag. Ross Outdoors on the west side of Phoenix does that and there are other places on the web.
  19. It is mostly the heavy caliber stuff but I found it interesting and hopefully others will derive some benefit from it. http://www.handloads.com/misc/linebaugh.penetration.tests.asp

    Some 36B basic questions

I've hunted 33 and 36B during the early hunts and the temps are usually hot in the day but at times I have also seen temps cold enough to put down frost at night. Sorry to hear about your friend Muleskinner. A basic physical each year is a good thing for us to do once we reach 30. At 40 we start getting poked and prodded by the Doc and if anyone is like me with high cholesterol please take it one step further and do a Nuclear Stress Test and then again every five years. It only takes a few hours and it will save your life. During the one I did last year my Blood Pressure hit 232 about five minutes into the treadmill so now I take half a pill each morning and feel a lot better and less stressed out. I'd hate to have the big one if I was out hunting with my son. I know I am going to die one day, it's the only thing we can be sure of, but I would like to spare him that memory.
  22. This is a great area with lots of game to be seen. I would love to go but I am working all day on Saturday.
