    First time calling

I've easily shot a few hundred over the years from first light to last light and everything in between.

    First time calling

Good move to use the Jack Rabbit call based on your sightings of them in the area. Rabbits have little lungs and won't scream continuously so call for 10 to 15 seconds then break for 5-10 seconds and repeat.

    hunting lisence?

I agree it isn't the best way to get a license but just go to Walmart and get a duplicate. It is worthwhile for me to just drive to G&F and purchase it from them which is what I did last month to get a 2014 license. I dislike having to print it off and imagine it will change in 2015.
  5. Does WWOM's have them? Mainly looking for paper maps and may get one for my Garmin.

    News on Leaving trailers

It is a bunch of BS substantiated by whiners who feel entitled about having a campsites. Rule was and has been, two weeks then move and people have camped based on that to have a base camp to go into the back countryor just enjoy themselves. It has never been and is not now a big deal, there are plenty of places to cam. The Crybaby hunters pissin and moanin because someone else is in a spot before them need to STFU or find something else to do.

    Where to go?

They would not let you shoot there unless you have shot in a few matches already and no magnums are allowed to shoot at the Silhouette targets.

    The One That Got Away

I was fishing for Speckled Trout in the marsh behind Grand Isle Lousiana and decided to tie on a hot pink She Dog. When it hit the water it immediately launched back up into the air. I never saw what it was as I had 8# test mono on a Browning Bait Caster and the drag was too tight. The fish in my avatar was a similar story and I fought it for about 20 minutes before I even saw what it was. I released it after a few pics.

    Best Gun Company?

Winchester, Remington, Marlin, Ruger, Colt, S&W, Savage all make fine production guns and some have had their share of recalls too. The quality of the firearm really rests on the decisions of management as to how much/little profit they want and whether they are willing to compromise quality for market share. If you can fork out the cash for a custom firearm from the likes of Reeder or Baer then you are fortunate as these are in a class of their own.

    Paralized hunter makes ultimate decision

These are probably a lot better harness than the ones the hunting companies make. http://www.grainger.com/Grainger/harnesses/fall-protection/safety/ecatalog/N-azy Don't forget to get a Shock Absorbing Lanyard, a 6' one works well enough. http://www.grainger.com/Grainger/harnesses/fall-protection/safety/ecatalog/N-azy#http://www.grainger.com/Grainger/harnesses/fall-protection/safety/ecatalog/N-azyZ1z05jt4Z1z0nvst?Ndr=basedimid10071&dojo.preventCache=1383764633080&sst=subset

    Sleeping Lions

I counted somewhere around 5 lions that were coming in to this spot and an occasional Tom. It doesn't sound like a lot, however, within a 1 mile radius it is a lot. I had other locations with an equal amount of activity and many larger Toms passing through due to the amount of females hanging around. And where in 6A is this? LOL HAHA, I will tell you this, these lion are no where near 6A, try about 250 miles southeast. I just said that because a couple of years ago I was scouting for Elk in 6A and ran into a couple of guides during the archery hunt who told me that they had seen two sets of different cats in the area over the last few days and I glassed up a female about a mile from where we talked.

Check into having it freeze dried instead of the traditional way of taxidermy.

    Berger bullets for hunting

Best advice on this thread. It's like the never ending broad head debate - which one is best. Bergers are a great bullet, as are several others. They're definitely worth a try anyways. Some bullets are more finicky and everything needs to right. Many years ago when PMC sold components I picked up some 140gr's in 284. Nothing special just some soft points I was going use for Chickens and Pigs in my 7-08 for HP Silhouette as they were about $8 a hundred and it was when MIDWAY still had free shipping. I couldn't get them to group under 2" at 100 yards in a rifle that put darn near everything I tried into one ragged hole. Frustrated I shelved them. A couple of years later I has worked up a load with the original Barnes X Bullet in 120gr for my 700 7Mag and decided to load up some of the PMC 140's for practice. I was pretty shocked, but pleased to have them shoot under 1" just by pushing them 200fps faster. Both rifles had the same twist and barrel length.

But holster your shotgun first. (You'll need both hands).
  25. You did the smart thing by not having a confrontation with the guy. He should have gutted it and taken it out with him and reported it to G&F. They may have gone easy on him. As far as drinking in my opinion if you even had one beer during lunch your not serious about hunting and should not go back out for the rest of the day. You should be 110% on your game when you are out hunting, save the suds for when the sun goes down. When my son was about 12 he shot a button buck by mistake when he was supposed to shoot the spike next to it. He was in tears over it so we tagged and field dressed it. I explained to him why it was not a legal deer and told him we had to report it. So we wrapped it up in a tarp and drove the hour to G&F. We went in and I explained what happened. A guy came out and we took the deer out and he took some pictures saying he would use them in Hunter Safety Classes to show hunters what a button buck looked like as the antlers had not broken through the skin. He then thanked my son for doing the right thing and coming in with the deer and then told him to take it home and enjoy eating it.
