My first time hunting Coues deer or unit 36A
PRDATR replied to Gduncan's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
Welcome to CWT. You should be fine out to 500 yards. What kind of accuracy are you getting @ 200 yards in the Marlin? http://www.barnesbullets.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/06/VOR-TX-trajectory-velocity-energy-REV-8-9-11-P.pdf -
Mmmm OK.

I kicked up a 4x4 Mulie Sunday morning about 10 miles south of Forest Lakes. Still in velvet. The Aspens were about 50% changed up on the Rim.
-
I have two 3x9's. One is a Bushnell I got in a trade that came as part of a factory rifle combo and I don't think it has been mounted. The other is a Leupold either a VX1 or a Rifleman I have had on and off a few rifles over the last five or six years. It has a few scratches but is a solid scope. If you would like to borrow them for your hunts PM me your address and I'll send them your way. They are both 1" tubes and have good glass.

I'll look and see what I have when I get home from work. Where is you're location? You can PM that to me if you want.
-
No comparison. KOWA all the way.
-
Looks like one I bumped in 23 yesterday morning chasing bugles and looking for Turkeys.
-
Everywhere I have seen them they are all the same price for any given size. I'd like to get a 105qt if anyone know of a better place to buy one that the usual places I'm all ears.

Basically a target bullet and a pi$$ poor design for a hunting bullet. Way too explosive similar to the Nosler Ballistic Tips.
-
Good Riddence. Seriously though I don't think he was bailing but it's nice to feel the love.
-
You might want to consider buying a standard length barreled rifle and have a gunsmith cut it down and re-crown it.
-
I have seen them all around the lake. There are some places to camp about 1/2 mile north of the lake.
-
Post them up over here. http://www.azpsg.com/forumdisplay.php?18-Want-to-Buy-Sell

The 4 Drag is a special kind of place.

I wonder if she would melt, if we poured some water on her. One could only hope. Just make sure the PH is really, really low.

Another thing to consider is who is going to be carrying the rifle all day? A light compact rifle is just that and after lugging it around for a few hours it can take a bit more effort to shoulder it and keep it steady while playing the waiting game for the animal to present a shot for a kill. I have a pre 64 Model 70 in 243 with a nice Zeiss scope on it but when I go pig hunting I grab my sons Youth 700 in the same caliber with a Leupold 2-7x33 on it just because it is so light. I also have a nice Estwing 22oz Framing Hammer that can be used on finishing nails in a pinch but I have another hammer that is better suited for that chore. Also letting her shoot bunnies and targets with a 22 to get the basics down is good too.

This would be my choice after handling the Ruger American, Savage and Remington 770. The Remington Youth Model is also great. I would choose the 243 as it has a very manageable recoil. I cut the stock down on a Remington Model 788 in 22-250 and my son and daughter used it to each kill a doe on the Kaibab when they were 11 and 12 but the 243 has a bit more power. I have a Remington Youth Model in 243 you could borrow to see if she likes it. It is a RMEF Edition my son won in a raffle in a Junior Elk Camp that was put on by RMEF and G&F. Just PM me if you are interested. Which Hunt does she have?

AZ_SAWBUCK, Are they Load Range D or E? 10" Rims?
-
That's because that bullet is designed to expand and will do a maximum amount of damage on a little deer, especially at close range which is why caliber and bullet selection are so important. I have used Core-Lokt bullets on Elk and they work just fine.

Congrats on the Bull and to your buddies for helping you out. Oh and welcome to you and your avatar to CWT.

Holy cow, mythbusters tried everything to split a barrel and found it couldn't be done... You need to go on that show. I've seen four barrels that were split, all from snow over the last 50 years. The last one was about 15 years ago and looked like a tulip, split in four perfect pieces each about 12 inches in length.

Been discussed on CWT before.

You don't see this very often... Banded Dove

Different type of Doves down there, ours don't migrate to there.
