AM Half Day on the Point Loma 3/11/17

Ocean WhitefishThe recreational fishery for ocean whitefish (Caulolatilus princeps) is open year-round to divers and shore-based anglers. The fishery is open to boat-based anglers from March 1, 2017 through December 31, 2017. Ocean whitefish may only be taken or possessed in waters less than 360 feet (60 fathoms) deep. The daily bag and possession limit is 10 fish, with no minimum size limit. The ocean whitefish fishery is managed by the state of California. Although not a federally managed groundfish species, ocean whitefish are often encountered by fishermen targeting federally managed groundfish. Thus, the ocean whitefish fishery is managed in concert with the federally managed groundfish group, which includes over 90 species that live on or near the bottom of the ocean (with a few exceptions). View a summary of groundfish regulations.
  7. I'm going to take my sister out to dinner tomorrow night as she will be in town. Looking for a something different and not really wanting to drive to Carefree. Like to keep it within 10 miles. Like to keep it under $250 for 2-4 people.
  8. Carvalho's for the win. Had a long talk with the owner about collecting fish (Discus) and in general fishing the Amazon and Rio Negro for Peacock Bass. Food was good, we sat outside and I had a couple of Brazilian beers and will be going back again.
  9. Too commercial. I would never go there, in any state. AZ has tooo much to offer.

    New content button causing downloads

Seems to be working fine again since I downloaded the latest version of bitdefender.
  11. The last few days when I click the round button adjacent to a topic which usually opens the topic and takes me to the last reply I have read it does not do this but instead downloads something to my computer. I have verified this on two separate laptops. This also happens when I try to open up a topic from Notifications that someone has "liked" by using the Like Button in a post.

    Game and Fish Comment Periods

Except for its not their pet. It's a wild animal that they're probably not supposed to be feeding to begin with. While I can sympathize with a non hunter growing an appreciation for an animal they see every day and grow a bond with they should realize its a game animal and have realistic expectations of what could potentially happen to that animal. Not that I disagree with you completely but in their eyes it's just the opposite. They don't care that you think you should be able to kill the animal. They think it's their community elk and they will name him and expect that Noone should be able to kill them. While I'm on your side you have to see their side as non hunters. I'm not sure who hunts a quarter mile from houses anyway but I'd imagine you could find some animals a little further away from a house. I personally wouldn't mind if the law passes either way. First because I think people that claim to be hunters should get out and hunt rather than hunt off the back porch. Second it would avoid some of these stories of people seeing their community animal in their backyard die and then start a petition to end all hunting because they now hate people that hunt. I replied to this so I could like it again.

    Ft Myers Trip

I took a trip late last week to Ft Myers and got a chance to do some fishing Friday Morning on a charter I arranged the week before. It is the off season and the target was Tarpon, Snook and Jack Crevale. My captain was a young guy named Trevor and grew up in the area. After a few mile drive we found some huge Tarpon rolling in a canal behind some huge homes and proceeded to cast some Pinfish. Some of these Tarpon were pushing 150 pounds and then some. After a couple of agonizing hours of no strikes we headed out and I managed to hook a Snook. It headed toward the mangroves and I ended up pulling the hook trying to keep it from getting tangled. We fished a few other spots before I was able to boat a Jack and then after breaking off another Snook I was able to get this one along side for Capt Trevor to land him for a picture. I kept no fish as I was merely chasing my bucket list. I would have kept the Snook for some fillets but the season opener was still a few days out.

    Who you calling "Senior"?

I'm 64 and in relatively great shape. No chronic problems 5'9 and 185, eat pretty healthy. Don't go to the gym or exercise much never had any sports injuries and am fairly active. Have all my own parts, not hip or knee replacements (so far). A lot of it is genetics but we shouldn't fool ourselves about keeping our weigh reasonable and eating healthy. Now muscle strength with take some strain off of your joints and from what I have seen a regular exercise routine really helps a lot. A couple of months ago I hiked Camelback Mountain with a friend who is about 20 years my junior and an avid hiker and it was tough keeping up with him. I met a guy ten years my senior who does it twice a day.

    I ain't afraid of ???

It still amazes me how we can communicate and relate to when we are face with a language barrier. Many years ago our company had a project manager who transferred to another office but not before transferring some construction projects into warranty to "clean his plate". Well a short time later GC's began calling into the office for us to come out and finish construction. Kinda of SHTF moment so half a dozen of us from three branches were sent to town and we each grabbed a list of projects and off we went in this small Texas border town. We worked some 12 hour days in August and some of my projects included roof work. I spent almost two weeks there with only a Sunday off. I got to know a local employee very well and on Saturday night we all crossed over into Juarez (20 years ago) and spent most of the night there in a few clubs. We hit it off pretty well and the customers loved him. About six months later he was sent here and then assigned to me to learn a new system and spent a few weeks here. Later that year we found out the company was closing his office. I asked him what he thought about relocating to here and he said he would like to. I went to bat for him with one of our PM's and the branch manager, they made him an offer and he relocated. Fast forward about 10 years and he took citizenship classes, unbeknowst to us until one day he mentioned he was going to go and take his oath. I scrambled and found a place that sold high quality american flags and then went to about five different places until I found one to do some embroidery on short notice. The day he took his oath there were about five of us there with him and about 50 other people from all different countries too. It was very emotional for all of us that day. He is like another brother to me and all though we no longer work together we are still close.
